About Richard Tomlinson

We are a family with two young daughters based in the UK.

Richard Tomlinson purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Richard Tomlinson chose Ferriere-Larcon

We knew the previous owners and their family for many years and had spent many happy times at Chatre with them. When they retired to Loches and were selling the farm, we took the opportunity to buy the holiday cottage on the farm.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the rural peace and quiet of Chatre and the French quality of life. Coming from a busy town, it is a delight to sit out on a warm evening with no sound except the crickets calling and the ducks from the wood across the fields. With almost no neighbours, you get a great view of the stars on a clear night.

In the big garden and without traffic worries, the children enjoy the hammock and toys we leave there including a splash pool.

Although rural, there are plenty of activities within easy reach as well as exploring the chateaux and history of the Loire valley, so you are never bored.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely stay at the cottage, it really is in an ideal location isn't it?

Richard & Angela. Chatre was a haven of peace & quiet for six weary travellers arriving after a 12 hour drive in the dark & pouring rain. Anyone intending to visit this beautiful area of France would be well advised to make arrangments to stay at your cottage. Beautifully furnished & supplied with everything we needed for a stress free vacation and the opportunity of mingling with friendly locals who went above & beyond to assist visitors who couldn't speak their language. Your cottage is perfectly situated to visit the local markets of Descartes and Loches, the ancient villages of Paulmy, Angles-Sur L'Anglin, Les Grand Pressigny and the beautiful Chateau de Chenonceau or take a balloon flight over the Loire Valley. At the end of a long day, we brought Paella & fresh seafood home from the market and enjoyed a drink on the patio, watching for deer in the fields and sitting in awe of the sunset and the canopy of stars in absolute quiet after dark. We were extremely lucky to come upon a family of wild boar crossing the road in front of us - what a sight. As it was October we had to dodge a few showers but as the temperature was mild, it didn't stop us from venturing out and enjoying our days. Five full days went by too quickly and we would have missed much without the help of Denise & Martin who watch over Chatre when you are absent. It was a rare treat to meet and spend time with them. Thank you Richard & Angela for the pleasure of visiting Chatre. Thank you also, Denise & Martin - you were absolutely lovely.

Châtre - Truly wonderful accommodation!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, relaxing place in such a beautiful setting! We stayed here with our 2 children (aged 8 & 10) and they loved each having their own bedroom. A true home away from home - at a very reasonable price! We could not find fault with this property. The house was equipped with everything that you would ever want. The owners, Richard & Angela, were very easy to deal with and the property managers, Denise & Martin were so helpful - providing us with everything we needed and also valuable information that you can only get from locals. The rooms are also quite large, you feel like you have plenty of room to spread yourselves out and really relax. The kids really loved all the space outside to run around and play – in the beautiful French countryside. A wonderful base from which to explore the Loire Valley. Our only regret was that we wished we had stayed longer! A true piece of paradise! Thank you Richard, Angela, Denise & Martin!

Wonderful Memories

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here, renting the cottage and apartment, my husband and I and six children age 2-12.

A beautiful place, great privacy, wonderful views, lovely property. I could go on but you have to be there to believe it.

There are lovely towns and villages all around and of course lovely Loches. However after all of this travelling you return to Chatre to eat, relax or play all around the grounds.

We would highly recommend Chatre and hope one day to go back again.

We had a great time and hope to return. Cottage and facilities were as advertised. Everything worked well and the cottage was a great base from which to experience the Chateau region and Loire Valley. Especially nice was the close proximity to local markets and super markets. The location is very private and very quite. The local agents, Martin and Denise, were more than helpful on all fronts. It was, by far, our best adventure in the EU so far.

country charm

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed the country setting. Really out there away from it all. Great windows with views of growing crops. A bit far from castles on the Loire but it is not billed as that. Very generous to allow the use of the bikes.Solar generation of hot water, supplemented by regular means. A work in progress; will only get better. Thank you for a great stay. Contact person was very helpful.

Une excellente semaine

  • 5 of 5

Loches has a unique naturally cleaned swimming pool, there is tennis at Ligueil, chateaux and vinyards to visit. Sandy beaches at Bellebouche, the beach in the heart of France, Montresor and St Cyr Lake. Medieval Loches is an attractive tourist destination close by. Travelling around the local area, you see a wealth of medieval churches, chateaux and other buildings. Troglodyte buildings, half building and half cave are common, enjoy a pizza in a troglodyte pizzeria in Loches. Enjoy the local produce, goats cheese from Saint Maure, home pressed apple juice from Sepmes. See stunning fields of sunflowers in July. Enjoy local soft fruits from July onwards. Look out for each town's summer festival.
