We are a retired couple from Minnesota.

Sam Cave purchased this house in 2007

We chose to buy our winter home(winter in Minnesota)in Antigua because of the perfect weather. Antigua provides a great place to live. It is safe and has lots of amenities, yet provides easy access to the villages and other cities of Guatemala. Antigua provides a respite from the harsher conditions under which many Guatemalans live. We participate with and often act as dinner hosts to educational and mercy groups that come to Antigua before, after, or during their projects.

We love to take breakfast on the corridor beside the garden. We often have an evening meal or snack and glass of wine while watching Fuego spout off or watching the clouds passing agua from our second floor patio.

GREAT LOCATION AND HAS EVERYTHING!

  • 5 of 5
Where to begin....when we arrived, we had a little challenge finding it, but it is in a gated community with guards 24/7. It is a wonderful place and the pictures do not do it justice. Everything was clean and beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked (more pots/pans/utensils than I have in my house of five) and it comes with sheets, towels, water jug, DVD (with recent movies), HDTV, wi-fi, dishwasher, full-sized washer/dryer, a maid (2 days a week), etc....you get the picture. It has everything you could want/need.

When you go upstairs in the house, you can see the three volcanoes surrounding Antigua. One keeps puffing out smoke! The views are simply amazing. It is very quiet in the house and easy to relax too.

The house is located just outside the main area. It is about two short blocks walk to get to the main road in downtown Antigua. It is very easy to walk to the Market area (with many local vendors), great restaurants, Hermano Pedro (orphanage), Bodagano (grocery store), etc....If you just want to see the city of Antigua, you would not need a car. We had a van as we drove through many of the nearby cities which gives you a better appreciation of Guatemala.

Antigua is a wonderful city with cobblestone roads and a lot of speed bumps. If you are driving through the city, you will appreciate when you are off the cobblestone roads. It is a nice walking city and seemed quite safe. We always walked together in groups of at least two, but we never felt threatened. The Guatemalan people were very friendly and helpful.

Sam is a very nice owner and was quick to respond to my questions as we prepared to travel. Lorena is very friendly too and oversees the property in country. You can't go wrong renting this wonderful property.

WONDERFUL ACCOMMODATIONS IMPRESSIVE VIEW, VERY SECURE

  • 5 of 5
We, a family of 5 ranging in age from 6 to 71, spent Semana Santa at this new authentic colonial home in Antigua. We loved the location which we found easily accessible to local sights, shopping and countless restaurant options. The home in a quiet, gated community attended by friendly security attendants gave us the flexibility to walk around town or spend quiet time at home. Kitchen facilities allowed us to prepare some meals at home. We enjoyed our daily coffee on the rooftop patio while taking in the scenic views of the local volcanoes. We all agree we would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Antigua.

FAMILY WEDDING IN ANTIGUA

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed this rental from top to bottom. It is as beautiful and clean as the pictures and description said, complete with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The manager, cleaning lady and guards were all helpful and considerate. It is located within walking distance to the market and central park. We felt comfortable walking during the day and at night, the guards would always call a cab for us. The owner was easy to work with and prompt in returning the deposit at the end of our stay. We highly recommend this lovely HOME because that is exactly how we felt when we were there. Thanks!

A PERFECT PLACE FOR FAMILIES

  • 5 of 5
This lovely home provided the perfect situation for our visit to Antigua by members of two families who wanted to spend time together. Rather than being in separate hotel rooms, we could socialize, cook and eat together, come and go separately or together, and generally have a great time. Attractive as the photos are, they don't do justice to the house, which is well-designed and fully equipped, charming, and bigger than it looks - on the second floor, the master bedroom with walk-in closet and the large roof-top patio with 360 degree views of (far enough away) volcanoes are unexpected pleasures. Since it was the rainy season, when it rained in the evening we simply cooked and congregated in the spacious, well-lit kitchen-dining room. It was an easy walk to the fascinating Antigua market, and just a few blocks from the central park and historic center of Antigua. The gated community in which the house is located - which even allowed for safe on-street parking - was attractive, peaceful, and secure; we slept like logs. The local property manager was accessible, friendly, and helpful. All in all, a wonderful experience - we will do it again.
