This home offers a beautiful and comfortable way to enjoy Antigua, the former capital of the Spanish empire in Central America. Antigua Is a UN designated World Heritage Site. The entire city keeps its colonial charm with ornate carved doors, cobbled streets, an open market, and dozens of well-preserved ancient buildings and museums.
Antigua is the perfect tourist friendly place to access all the exciting Eco and historic sites of Guatemala.
The home was built with American tastes in mind. Everything you need to be comfortable is here. Enjoy an unobstructed view of Volvano 'Agua' and the active volcano 'Fuego' from the south facing terrace. Walk or take a Tuk-Tuk or taxi to Central Park, most popular sites, restaurants, & Spanish schools.
The Living room, dining room, kitchen, and two bedrooms surround the garden on the first floor. Upstairs the master bedroom and Terrace share the beautiful view of the volcanoes.
King bed, regular double bed, and two singles in the bedrooms and sofa-bed in the living room.
We are a retired couple from Minnesota.
Sam Cave purchased this house in 2007
We chose to buy our winter home(winter in Minnesota)in Antigua because of the perfect weather. Antigua provides a great place to live. It is safe and has lots of amenities, yet provides easy access to the villages and other cities of Guatemala. Antigua provides a respite from the harsher conditions under which many Guatemalans live. We participate with and often act as dinner hosts to educational and mercy groups that come to Antigua before, after, or during their projects.
We love to take breakfast on the corridor beside the garden. We often have an evening meal or snack and glass of wine while watching Volcano Fuego spout off or watching the clouds passing Volcano Agua from our second floor patio.
This generously sized house does indeed have everything you need. Very comfortable home in a secure guarded community. Great views of the volcanoes from the upper level terrace. Walking distance to Antigua's central plaza, artisan market, and central market. Great for visitors without cars. We'd love to return and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
Sam's place is simply AMAZING! I was caught breathless as I entered this beautiful home with cascading flowering vines, ferns, tiles and a gorgeous open garden, all within the walls of the house. Everything you need to make yourself at home. Washer and dryer, great internet, cable TV. Views of the volcanoes, safe relaxing nooks to enjoy the blue sky or starlit night. The guards 24 hour presence , provided a secure, comforting stay. We walked or took a tuk tuk, the couple blocks to the market or the nearby central park. Sam is so genuine. It was comforting to know we were in the home of a fellow Minnesotan! This would be my FIRST choice when returning to Antigua.
Where to begin....when we arrived, we had a little challenge finding it, but it is in a gated community with guards 24/7. It is a wonderful place and the pictures do not do it justice. Everything was clean and beautiful. The kitchen is well stocked (more pots/pans/utensils than I have in my house of five) and it comes with sheets, towels, water jug, DVD (with recent movies), HDTV, wi-fi, dishwasher, full-sized washer/dryer, a maid (2 days a week), etc....you get the picture. It has everything you could want/need.
When you go upstairs in the house, you can see the three volcanoes surrounding Antigua. One keeps puffing out smoke! The views are simply amazing. It is very quiet in the house and easy to relax too.
The house is located just outside the main area. It is about two short blocks walk to get to the main road in downtown Antigua. It is very easy to walk to the Market area (with many local vendors), great restaurants, Hermano Pedro (orphanage), Bodagano (grocery store), etc....If you just want to see the city of Antigua, you would not need a car. We had a van as we drove through many of the nearby cities which gives you a better appreciation of Guatemala.
Antigua is a wonderful city with cobblestone roads and a lot of speed bumps. If you are driving through the city, you will appreciate when you are off the cobblestone roads. It is a nice walking city and seemed quite safe. We always walked together in groups of at least two, but we never felt threatened. The Guatemalan people were very friendly and helpful.
Sam is a very nice owner and was quick to respond to my questions as we prepared to travel. Lorena is very friendly too and oversees the property in country. You can't go wrong renting this wonderful property.
We, a family of 5 ranging in age from 6 to 71, spent Semana Santa at this new authentic colonial home in Antigua. We loved the location which we found easily accessible to local sights, shopping and countless restaurant options. The home in a quiet, gated community attended by friendly security attendants gave us the flexibility to walk around town or spend quiet time at home. Kitchen facilities allowed us to prepare some meals at home. We enjoyed our daily coffee on the rooftop patio while taking in the scenic views of the local volcanoes. We all agree we would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Antigua.
Excellent location, great home and best equipped kitchen which is very important when traveling with family. All transactions made so easy by owners. Will definitely recommend property and no doubt I will rent this property again
The house was better than the pictures and sam cave was great and accommodating. We had our thanksgiving dinner at the house and we where all comfy and happy we will consider staying here again loved Bertha the house Keeper and gardener even played with our girls. The guards walk around the neighborhood twice a day. We loved it !!! Best of all you can walk anywhere in Antigua!!!
