About The Owner

I am a former teacher/children's librarian and now am enjoying sharing this lovely location with many enjoyable people from around the world. Kona Ocean View has the most beautiful view and yet is five minutes to quaint Kailua village and the Kahaluu snorkel beach which is a tropical fish and Green turtle sanctuary. I volunteer as a Reef Teacher there and am a volunteer for the Whale Sanctuary, as well as enjoy many water activities. Come join me!

What makes this villa unique

If you are interested in snorkeling and diving. My Fair Wind membership will allow you a 10 to 20% discount. I recommend it highly. I sail often to the Capt. Cook monument to snorkel and have also had the very rare opportunity to swim with Manta Ray's at night. This is one of the only places in the world that offer swimming with these amazing creatures. Many golf courses are in the vicinity, with ocean views, rare birds and wild goats.

Day trips to the Volcano, Waipio Valley, Zip lines, and many more famous beaches along the west coast are available to people who stay here. We have free covered parking, and free wireless internet and many amenities to make your stay comfortable and amazing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our escape from the cold Canadian north. My family, Charles,

Amber, and Ava were so impressed by my finding this place. It suited us

perfectly especially with the baby - mum never felt left out when we went

touring without her - in fact - we could hardly wait to get back! Our family get

together was a great success and we all hope to come back. Mahalo,

February 2015 Stay at property 92959

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed 9 days at this property during our most recent trip to Kailua-Kona. This was far and away the nicest place at which we stayed on multiple visits to the Big Island. The unit is clean, spacious, well-equipped and has such a lovely view. We could watch whales while having morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. We enjoyed the property both inside and outside including the great pool. Not only is the property great but we had several chances to speak with Barbara and her husband who are lovely people. It is conveniently located to access the main tourist attractions of the Big Island and also offers excellent privacy. It is close to several excellent restaurants. There is a gas grill and we used it to grill fresh fish from the fish market. I would definitely come back to this property and would especially recommend it to friends and family.

Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Barb's main unit for twelve nights and were extremely pleased with all aspects of our stay. We have tried several other Kailua-Kona VRBO units during our previous Big Island visits and have stayed right on the water and up the mountain and we enjoyed our stay here most of all. The unit was very clean and well appointed and had all the amenities that we would want. The kitchen is well equipped and the living room area is very comfortable. The unit is very open, bright and airy. You have amazing views of the coastline and water from within the unit. You can wake in the morning and see the views from the comfortable king bed or see the starry, starry night sky and the large shower has a million dollar view! The large lanai has several nice sitting areas for enjoying a coffee or cold beverage and the great views of whales, cruise ships and of course the amazing sunsets. We used the bbq on the lanai every evening. We also made great use of the amazing pool which was very clean, warm and inviting. We spent a lot of our time in the pool just looking over the edge at the views. Barb's house is well situated to provide maximum privacy. You really do feel like you in your own little piece of paradise as the front and sides of the property look only onto natural vegetation. Barb was the perfect host, there when we needed to ask a question but otherwise was very discreet in her presence upstairs. We would very much recommend a stay with Barb and we will definitely be back ourselves. And one quick p.s, the weather during our stay was awesome, sunny and warm with very pleasant evening/overnight temps.

The perfect way to start my Hawaii vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Barbara's house was a slice of heaven on earth!! My cousin and I shared the house and we never got in each other's way! The outdoor space is phenomenal, with a view beyond compare, and a private pool to yourself. The inside is spotless, comfortable, and very well stocked with everything you could need. This house is located very centrally to everywhere; but you do need a car. Barbara was gracious, welcoming, warm, and stayed away unless called upon. I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else on my return to Kona! I would recommend this VRBO without hesitation. Thank you so much for everything, Barbara!!

More than just an awesome view...

  • 5 of 5

There is so much to be said about this place, host and view. I will begin with the villa. It was very clean. Everything was in great shape. We have been to Hawaii enough to know there are bugs, but they were not a problem here. Everything we needed was available to us (pots, pans, utensils, wash/dry, bbq, etc.). It really felt like home. We shared the place with another couple (close friends) and 2 adult sons. Occasionally, we would have family and friends over that we knew on the island. So, there was plenty of living and sleeping space. The villa was close to the Queens highway that would take you north and south. Also, 5 minutes from beach and downtown. Barbara the host was excellent. She gave us a tour and showed us where everything was and then she left us alone (she did have good knowledge of the island, also). I was skeptical at first, because she lived on property. However, I hardly noticed her. The view of the place was excellent. There were times we didn't even leave, because we had the pool and the spectacular view. I won't even try to describe it, because I won't do it justice. Fortunately for us the weather was perfect everyday. I would recommend this villa to anybody without hesitation.

Great vacation on the Big Island!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 (two kids ages 5 and 10, two parents, two grandparents) had a wonderful stay here. Barbara was very nice and helpful and made us feel very welcome while giving us our privacy. The house was beautiful and well-stocked. We've stayed in a lot of rentals with kitchens and we were very impressed with how many useful items there were in this one. We're used to bringing our own tupperware, saranwrap, foil, etc. (or just doing without) but this house had all of that! There was also a decent selection of seasonings, sugar, salt, pepper, etc. available. We loved having the gas grill to cook on outside and the outdoor dining table for eating. The saltwater pool was warm (the water stayed between 80-84F while we were there) and there were lots of pool toys to take advantage of. The kids absolutely loved having their own pool! The house is within a short drive to the waterfront, restaurants, and stores. We visited the beach on a couple of occasions (there were flippers, buckets, beach mats, chairs, etc. available at the house to take with us to the beach) and while it was great to go snorkeling and see sea turtles, we all agreed that we liked the privacy of our own pool over sharing a crowded beach. The outdoor entrance to the bathroom was great to have so the kids didn't track water through the entire house from the pool. Keeping that door open as well as the french doors also allowed for a nice cross-breeze through the house to keep it cool during the day. At night it stayed cool with the ceiling fans on and the doors closed. We woke up each morning to the singing of birds, enjoyed the geckos that are all around, and even got to see the wild turkeys that are in the neighborhood. We loved it there and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay in that area.

The house was spotless, well stocked and comfortable. The big draw was the pool, the large deck and of course the view, and we were not disappointed. The owner was easy to work with and obviously takes pride in the property. Mahalo Barbara. We had a great time!
