Come and enjoy everything that downtown Wilmington has to offer from the comfort of this fully furnished, 4000 square foot home. Located in historic Carolina Heights, the Magnolia House is in an excellent location- just a 15 minute walk to the bustling riverfront, a 15 minute drive to the beach, and yet, perfectly situated amid the peaceful, tall live oak trees that line the residential streets. This former bed and breakfast is clean and well equipped for all your needs.
The Magnolia House is a gathering place for families and friends celebrating milestones, or vacationing together and seeking private refuge after a day of sightseeing. This beautiful historic property is a delight! Every room is bathed in sunlight with huge windows, many facing the large garden in the backyard with its old gracious magnolia tree, and pathway leading down three steps to a lower formal garden, Camelia trees and Azaleas.
The house, which was built in 1921, is filled with original details including 10 foot ceilings, a wide brick path, the call buttons used in the 1920's. There are 3 fireplaces (one working) with large 1920's decorative mantels. The house was recently included in the Wilmington Historic Foundation Historic Home Tour, and has also been used as a location for several TV series and commercials in the past.
Our guests tell us that they love the chef’s kitchen which has stainless steel countertops and three sinks. Cooking for a large group is a pleasure in this well equipped and spacious kitchen. The appliances are all new, including a new double door stainless steel refrigerator with water and ice dispenser. There is seating for 6 around the kitchen island for informal meals. The formal dining room seats 8 people comfortably for formal meals, including rehearsal dinners or large family gatherings or holiday dinners. Catering can be arranged if needed (must be requested in advance).
The den is also a delight with comfortable seating, a brand new 42 inch flat screen 'smart' HDTV which allows you to wirelessly stream movies and TV shows and surf the Web. There is also an octagon shaped game table for an impromptu poker night!
There is also a more formal parlor, with books and comfortable sofas. It is a lovely spot to enjoy a cocktail or a cup of tea by the fireplace on a cool night.

There are 36 inch flat screen televisions with DVR and Netflix in 2 of the bedrooms, and smaller tvs in the other bedrooms.
There is also a queen sized sleeper sofa in our living room, which can be set up for your convenience downstairs for guests who cannot walk up the stairs easily.
There are three full bathrooms with deep, oversized bathtubs located upstairs, and there is a half bath (no tub or shower) downstairs.
*Please note that all full bathrooms are located upstairs. There is a half bathroom (no bathtub) located downstairs near the sleeper sofa. Therefore, this house is not ideal for guests who need a shower downstairs due to disabilities.

Natalie David purchased this house in 2003
We purchased this home after falling in love with it while staying there when it was a Bed and Breakfast. We were expecting our first child at the time, and moving to Wilmington, and this house felt like home from the first moment we entered it. The large, brightly lit rooms were filled with promise for a beautiful life with our growing family. As we settled into Wilmington. As time went on we had three children while living there, and enjoyed an extremely memorable few years in Wilmington.
A few years later, we were disappointed to find out that we had to move for work purposes and tried to find a reason to keep the house As a result, we decided that turning it into a vacation rental would be a wonderful option. We now have the opportunity to share this home with others that want to experience the beauty and grace of Wilmington and the 'Magnolia House.'
We found that the house had so many special qualities and we grew to truly appreciate not only the its architectural beauty, but the location, neighborhood, our neighbors, and all that Wilmington has to offer. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach, downtown's cultural activities and restaurants, the rich history of the area and so much more!
The house worked perfectly for the wedding! Everyone loved it and it was great to all be in one place and yet still have enough room where you don't feel cramped. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us :)
This is a magnificent house to be in for any length of time, for any reason!
Since the beginning of January, my family had been temporarily relocated to Wilmington for work. My wife, 1yr-old daughter, two dogs and I all shared the space with our friend/co-worker, and found the place to be accommodating to our every need.
The kitchen is large, and big enough to cook two meals simultaneously. The living rooms and other common spaces are all warm, inviting and wonderful to spend time in during rainy days. The upstairs master suite has fit my family easily, and the other room with a large bed fits our friend just fine, even at 6'4" tall. Any time we've had guests, be it for dinners or weekend stays, we've had plenty of space to use and have never felt cramped. The backyard is perfect for grilling out, and even has a swing set (which, I promise, has seen plenty of use).
The neighborhood is great. The entrance to the historic cemetery is 3 blocks north on 15th st, and we all take walks through it regularly. Downtown is a 3-minute drive, 7-minute bike ride or 15-minute walk away, which makes for a lovely evening. And the beach is easily reached by car as well.
Natalie is wonderful to work with, and Katie (who oversees the place) is an incredibly sweet person also. Whether your reservation is a week-long vacation, or a 6-month-relocation, this is one of the best places to stay in Wilmington, hands down. We'll absolutely stay here again, should the chance arrive.
My family and I (total of 15 which included 2 small children) rented this home for a family wedding! The home perfectly accommodated all of us plus others that were in and out for various wedding gatherings/dinners! The home was clean had everything we needed plus some! It was in a great location...close to downtown and just a short drive from the beach! We would most definitely rent it again and recommend it for others!
House was great. Very spacious and in a great location near downtown. Natalie was great to work with and we had a great time during our stay. House was large enough to easily accommodate a large group for a wedding.
My family came to stay in Wilmington for my wedding in March. The space was perfect and everyone was comfortable. The kids had their own room and games to play with all weekend. The eat-in kitchen was the place where everyone came together to talk and relax. There are many big spaces in the house for family to have space but also to spend time together. This was a great place for the wedding party to get ready as well. My family and I were very pleased with our stay.
The house is beautiful! The children enjoyed the open large spaces. Since we only stayed 2 very short nights. We wished we could've stayed longer. The adults were a little uncomfortable. The kitchen was immaculate! It could've used a cleaning: dishwasher, refrigerator and coffee table there was food in the cracks and crevasses. Bathrooms were cleaned except The master bedrooms bathroom bathtub had a clogged drain, the furniture can use reupholstery, it was all stained. You can feel the wind and cold from bedroom windows. This kinds of things reduces the beauty and value. Overall pretty huge house.
Magnolia was a perfect place for our group of friends to gather. This home is so cozy and there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The kitchen is amazing and had everything you could ever need. We are cooks! The backyard was also a great place with plenty of room to play games and gather. We will definitely be back. This place made you feel right at home! Thanks for a great experience...
