RETRO HOME IN ZILKER-FENCED YARD-NATURE VIEWS & MINUTES TO DOWNTOWN!

Austin House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

This 60's style, contemporary rental lies in a quaint neighborhood adjacent to downtown's nightlife and fine dining. The property’s huge oak trees will keep you shaded during sunny Austin days.

Stay with us in October for ACL! The rental is within walking distance to Zilker Park where it is held every year. During ACL, we charge a flat rate of $700 a night. Enjoy Barton Springs (also walking distance) which is a spring-fed pool. On the other side of the pool is a large park complete with picnic tables and a huge playground for children complete with a train that circles around the park. Enjoy sno cones as you lay out on the banks of the pool. For those more active, jog or bike on the Town Lake trails or rent a canoe. Nearby restaurants include Shady Grove (family friendly local place which often has live music), Austin Java, Uncle Billy's BBQ and microbrew, Chuy's Tex-Mex, Baby A's Tex-Mex (home of the purple margarita), Daily Juice and Flipnotics Coffee.

Head east a few blocks to shop in the nearby South Congress (Soco) district. Find thrift stores, vintage shops, a costume store, candy stores, tons of antiques and homemade items, clothing stores, retro toy stores, and lots of locally owned boutiques. Grab a pizza at Homeslice, enjoy Tex-Mex at Guerro's Taco Bar, relax at Sunday brunch at South Congress Cafe or the Woodland, bring your appetite to the delicious Vespaio Restaruant, see a local band at the Continental Club, play a round of mini-golf at Peter Pan Golf, or check out a play at Zach Scott Theater. Don't forget to stop on the South Congress bridge and check out the bats!

South 1st Street is also a few blocks from the home and is a street lined with authentic Mexican pastry shops, antique stores, record stores, boutiques and Polvo's Mexican Restaurant.

A 5 minute drive will get you to the heart of downtown where you can visit the world famous 6th Street, home of wall-to-wall bars and live music every night of the week. Eat, drink...even catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse. Visit the new 2nd Street Shopping District to catch a movie and shop local boutiques as well as high-end specialty stores. There are dozens of cafes, coffee houses, bars and restaurants to suit every taste imaginable. If you would like a chaufferred tour of downtown Austin, hop aboard the Austin Duck Tour which is a boat-on-wheels! The tour guide will fill you in on Austin history while driving you around the downtown area and ultimately into the lake for a quick boat ride near Hula Hut and Mozarts Coffeehouse before returning you to your original destination.

Looking for a 24-hour eatery? Check out Magnolia Cafe (try the Magnolia Mud or the pancakes) or Kerby Lane Cafe.

Looking for something for the kids? Check out the Scottish Rite Theater for a variety of live plays such as Peter Pan, cool them off in the many splash-pads around town, take them for a dip at Deep Eddy Pool (they offer movies there during the summer), catch some live music at Blues on the Green or visit the numerous parks throughout the city.

If you need any tips on where to go and what to see...just ask! We are happy to make recommendations!

You will find everything you need in the home, from fresh linens and towels to a kitchen stocked with cooking supplies and utensils. We provide DirectTV Satellite and wireless internet.

Long term rentals welcome!

very comfortable home

  • 4 of 5
home was quite comfortable for my family. we were in town for my son's graduation and renting a house was so much better than staying at a hotel! we had space to move around, make home made dinner if we wanted to and the beds were quite comfy! appreciate that the home had everything we needed. 4 stars only becuase tv in master didn't work (satellite wouldn't connect), back screen door has missing bottom window pane, porch light not working - just need a little more maintenance

Good family stay.

  • 5 of 5
Loved the house. It suited our family, parents, two adult sons, and family dog, perfectly. The house was very clean, roomy but still cozy. Each son had a room to himself. Comfortable beds, and the eat in kitchen was wonderful. The neighborhood was quiet and beautiful. The location was convenient. The fenced back yard was large, and good for the dog. Unfortunately, the weather was cold and windy with freezing rain, which kept us from exploring as much as we wanted. However, the house was quite comfortable for hunkering down. Mt. Bonnell was spectacular! And I really enjoyed Central Market--for the ultimate foodie.

Would definitely recommend this rental, and would happily return to visit.

Conveniently Close to Hot Spots

  • 4 of 5
Located in a quiet neighborhood, the house is conveniently located and not too far off from Austin's hot spots. We spent most of our time off of S. Congress and near Zilker and we had no problem going to and fro.

However, the photos are either incorrect or outdated (or the other side of the duplex) and looked nothing like our stay. It's not necessarily bad, just different. The backyard has also changed and there is no longer a tree with a tire swing. Otherwise, everything was clean and well-maintained. The owner was responsive and helpful.

Duplex - nice location

  • 3 of 5
Let me first say that we have enjoyed vacation home rentals so this is not our first home rental experience. My husband and I rented this duplex for 2 nights over the Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, due to unexpected circumstances we were only able to stay one night. We notified the owners so they would be aware and they were very accomodating by agreeing to an early check-in Sunday morning. When we arrived, I called to be sure we were entering the correct one since I left the paperwork at home. Andrea was very nice and confirmed the appropriate one. Upon entering, there was a strong, musty smell as if the a/c had not been used in awhile. My allergies immediately kicked in so I called the owner back to let her know that we would not be able to stay. There was no answer so I left a voice mail. A couple of hours later, the owner called saying she was at the duplex to check on us and had not received my voice mail. We discussed the problem and she said she was appreciative of the feedback; however, there was no mention of a partial refund. We found a place to stay at a hotel and enjoyed our weekend.

I gave it 3 stars because it is a great location - central to just about everything in Austin and the house overall was neat inside and out. And, had it not been for the strong odor, we would have stayed. We were disappointed.

Peaceful Getaway

  • 4 of 5
The house was a perfect weekend getaway for us. The house was clean and all the amenities listed were provided and easy to find. The owner is very responsive and very patient. I had all my questions, more like pestering answered on time and they were very prompt and quick to refund the deposit.

We really enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area. It's on a hill overlooking Austin and it is very peaceful and quiet. It is close to natural park and garden like Umlauf garden and Zilker park.
