Stay with us in October and enjoy the 3-day ACL Music Festival. The home is located within walking distance to Zilker Park where the festival is held each year. Trust us...you don't want to deal with having to park a car on the festival grounds! Enjoy Barton Springs (also walking distance) which is a spring-fed pool. On the other side of the pool is a large park complete with picnic tables and a huge playground for children complete with a train that circles around the park. Enjoy sno cones as you lay out on the banks of the pool. For those more active, jog or bike on the Town Lake trails or rent a canoe. Nearby restaurants include Shady Grove (family friendly local place which often has live music), Austin Java, Uncle Billy's BBQ and microbrew, Chuy's Tex-Mex, Baby A's Tex-Mex (home of the purple margarita), Daily Juice and Flipnotics Coffee.
Head east a few blocks to shop in the nearby South Congress (Soco) district. Find thrift stores, vintage shops, a costume store, candy stores, tons of antiques and homemade items, clothing stores, retro toy stores, and lots of locally owned boutiques. Grab a pizza at Homeslice, enjoy Tex-Mex at Guerro's Taco Bar, relax at Sunday brunch at South Congress Cafe or the Woodland, bring your appetite to the delicious Vespaio Restaruant, see a local band at the Continental Club, play a round of mini-golf at Peter Pan Golf, or check out a play at Zach Scott Theater. Don't forget to stop on the South Congress bridge and check out the bats!
South 1st Street is also a few blocks from the home and is a street lined with authentic Mexican pastry shops, antique stores, record stores, boutiques and Polvo's Mexican Restaurant.
A 5 minute drive will get you to the heart of downtown where you can visit the world famous 6th Street, home of wall-to-wall bars and live music every night of the week. Eat, drink...even catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse. Visit the new 2nd Street Shopping District to catch a movie and shop local boutiques as well as high-end specialty stores. There are dozens of cafes, coffee houses, bars and restaurants to suit every taste imaginable. If you would like a chaufferred tour of downtown Austin, hop aboard the Austin Duck Tour which is a boat-on-wheels! The tour guide will fill you in on Austin history while driving you around the downtown area and ultimately into the lake for a quick boat ride near Hula Hut and Mozarts Coffeehouse before returning you to your original destination.
Looking for a 24-hour eatery? Check out Magnolia Cafe (try the Magnolia Mud or the pancakes) or Kerby Lane Cafe.
Looking for something for the kids? Check out the Scottish Rite Theater for a variety of live plays such as Peter Pan, cool them off in the many splash-pads around town, take them for a dip at Deep Eddy Pool (they offer movies there during the summer), catch some live music at Blues on the Green or visit the numerous parks throughout the city.
Coming to Austin in November? Check out the Formula One Races! You can also let the kids enjoy the Chuy's holiday parade down South Congress.
