About Kathy or Doug Solski

Kathy was born and raised in Calgary and Doug is almost a Calgarian. We have traveled extensively throughout the world and the U.S. Here we are in China, in Nov 2013. We would be happy to help you with places to visit in and around

Calgary. Let us know your interests and we will provide information on the best places to park, easiest way to get there, or the best way to get around avoiding some traffic. We will include tips on how to save time and money on some of the events you will enjoy and because your time is valuable we will help you save it on what not to do. Just send us a list of what you like to do and we will help in every way possible. Look at map below and you will see we have easy access to all attractions and amenities. Doug has a fatal condition called IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) This has and does not stop him from living life to the full potential to include enjoying his 5 grandchildren and 2 adult children along with their spouses. Doug loves to have people enjoy the home we have raised 2 wonder children ourselves in. Kathy runs a small business from the building beside the garage 2 to 3 days a week so we can take care of the home, yard, and each others needs to include Doug's medication. It has never been a problem with people staying. We do not live at this home as some may think we do. We are not far just a 15 minute drive away. We love people and love to meet the people who stay at our homes if we can. Not always possible as some do not stay long or are out from the time they get up until they go to bed, and we are not there except a few of days a week. Doug loves to tell people about what our fabulous city has to offer and a must to see. If by chance he does not get to meet you, he has left many brochures in the home for you to get to know the city and what is close by just outside for you to take advantage and not miss his favourite places to go. You will occasionally see

What makes this house unique

We are close to everything with easy access roads. Quiet Location with amenities within walking distance. Views to die for. Parking never an issue. City River walking path across the street. Transportation close. Community that is friendly and caring. Bright and cheerful inside and out. We at at the property 2-3 days a week and available to answer and help you with any questions that might come up. I run a small business in the back in a private area so please feel free to come in anytime when we are there. We bought this home because of the views. We were willing to pay anything to be on this street and not have the neighbours looking in the windows peering back at us. We can watch the breath taking sunsets from the seats in the front of the home, across the road on a park bench, or just from the front room window. We can take a walk in the morning enjoying the views from both directions walking. One is the amazing city views the other is the stupendous Rockies. The home's layout is a favourite of ours. Not everyone has to be on the same floor, which makes it easy to have a conversation with some family members while others are watching TV and laughing on another floor and Gramps and Grampa have a nap on another floor and Dad is watching TV and napping in the to die for master suite. Just a few steps to each floor so it can be mastered by most people and children. No one feels like they are crowded and in others space. The master suite has a jetted tub for two and the downstairs shower is great for people who need space. We bought this home that needed everything done to it and it took us several years to renovate. Of course knowing what we know now, there is always things we would change, but we still love this home and have no plans of parting with it for a very long time.

A Wonderful Accommodation

My wife, two year old son, and I stayed here for 12 evenings. The house was very clean, well furnished and stocked with all the necessities. The basement was even full of toys for our son. The neighbourhood has walking paths along the river, parks/playgrounds, and stores/restaurants only blocks away. The house is situated very close to two major arteries for Calgary, so getting around the city is a breeze. Even though she was traveling, Kathy was very accommodating to our need of extending our stay two more evenings. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Very Nice Apartment

Our group stayed in this apartment on the way from Banff to Yellowstone. The place was very clean and comfortable. It is large enough for our group of 7 people. The wifi worked well. The lock of the front door, however, did give us a lot of trouble at the first time. This problem solved after we figured the trick.

This place is just excellent. I spent a great holiday with my family and friends here. Very clean house with lots of space, and beautiful views in the area. Very reasonable cost, and very convenient location. Will definitely come back in the future.

Could not have been better!

Lovely home with great location (riverside w/bike and jogging trail just outside the house), very practical layout, and, fantastic views of both the Canadian Rockies and the Calgary skyline. All the appliances are new or very well maintained. The kitchen is very well equipped with quality dishes, pots, pans, glassware, utensils, etc. Everything was spotless and presented a warm/welcoming atmosphere. The owners make themselves readily available and are generally close by if you have any questions or concerns. They even made time to come by and introduce themselves. We very much felt as if we were staying in a friend's well-appointed guest house and not in a rental property. Will look to stay here for all our Calgary visits.

excellent rental

My family of 8 vacationed here for 8 days and renting this property was the best decision! The house was immaculate and spacious and Kathy was very friendly. All the necessities for cooking were available and the house was very well kept. We had plenty of room for us and I cannot even tell you how wonderful the master suite is! We will be vacationing again next year and will definitely seek out this property for our stay.

Stayed here for a few days house has smell when you enter which we could not pinpoint. You have to.like pink all decor is pink including furniture so its a bit depressing.
Layout is all stairs different levels would not suit family with young children or if you are frail.gets annoying as you have to go down 2 levels stairs from kitchen to TV room and then up 3 levels to main bedroom
House in yard makes you feel overlooked so we kept curtains closed which made it more dull

Owner's Response: We would like to thank you for choosing our home as your accommodations while staying in Calgary. We would like to address all your concerns. We did meet you and asked you how everything was, as all four of you replied you loved the home. We also asked if there was anything you needed and if there was anything we could do and your reply was everything was great. As for the smell in the home … when the home as been used by many people and everyone cooks differently, it is very difficult to get the smell out the same day as the next arrival. We have never had anyone tell us about this before and if you would have told us we could have used something to make it fresher for you. As for the pink, actually it is a soft mauve with dark burgundy furniture. We have never had a problem with the colour with anyone. If the colour is researched, this colour actually is one of the most relaxed colours. As for being depressed, you where is during a very cold snap in Calgary, we were all depressed. The pictures of the home shows the colour… Not a Surprise. In our write up about the home, it says it is a 4 level home and not for people for disabilities. People love the home as seen by the other reviews. Even people with children which you did not come with. People who come with children like that everyone does not sit in the same room and can get away from each other. As for watching TV, there is a TV in each bedroom and in the lowest level. Sorry we have never had a TV in our living in this home as we lived there for 20 years with small children. As for the stairs, it is 6 stairs from one level to the next level. There is 2 skylights in the kitchen and the blinds top down bottom down, so you can set the blinds to a place where lots of light comes in, we could have addressed this concern for you. There is no house in the back yard. There is a small business and believe me we do everything we can to make your stay very comfortable. If you read the other reviews, this was never a concern. If you called us and asked if this home was suitable for people with disabilities we would have told you no. The description of our home does say it is a 4 level home. A couple of people who stayed there with parents in there 90's told us they had no problem with the stairs and they like the little bit of exercise they get. We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay, please come back to Calgary sometime, as we do have a beautiful city.
