When we booked this holiday home for our Christmas family reunion, we had our fingers crossed that the Cedar House would live up to the photos on the website. We had about 14 people, varying in age from 5 to 82, and over the course of our two week stay, we all really enjoyed the pool, hot tub (in spite of some heating problems), the sunsets on the lower deck, barbecue meals, the TV room, shooting pool and nightly card games. We even had a designated quite room for reading and conversation (we deemed it our kid free zone). And our many family meals prepared in the 2 kitchens and served in the large, very large dinning room, where we shared the days many adventures.
Overall we had a great time in this 100 year old house, exploring the neighbourhoods, and nearby beaches. Would we stay there again, absolutely, in fact we are planning a return visit in 2016. So thanks to Betsy, and Charmene and her helpful sons, who were available onsite for our few concerns.
Thanks so much,
Just nine months ago, we rented the Cedar House for a staff/volunteer training retreat. When it came time for our next event, we all agreed immediately: we wanted to go back! The Cedar House was so perfect for our last event that we did not even consider other accommodations.
This time our agenda was unique, with surprise activities for the group which would have been difficult, if not impossible, to pull off in a different environment. We are a nonprofit organization which helps parents of children with disabilities and our staff and volunteers are a passionate and dedicated group who often work tirelessly to help others while neglecting their own needs. So the theme for this retreat was Stress Management! We had "de-stressing stations" positioned throughout the house so that participants could try different activities and techniques (crossword puzzles in the front entryway, a reading corner in the sunroom, an arts-and-crafts table in the parlor, a laughter station (don't ask! lol) near the pool table, and so on. We even set up a tent in the back yard, complete with comfy bean-bag chairs for a relaxing aromatherapy experience.
Then - is this cool or what? - we also scheduled activities for the brave to try, utilizing the living room area at the "cottage" for an energizing zumba demonstration, an afternoon of back & neck massages, and a tai chi / meditation demonstration by a local tai chi master. In-between all these great stress-relieving activities, we had serious training time with research-based, proven tips and techniques and opportunities for group activities to apply the learned strategies to the most difficult challenges we face as we carry out the work that we do.
Again, we utilized the big dining room area as a training room and ate our meals in the sunroom. We felt right at home, knowing where everything was in the two kitchens and in the butler's pantry hallway. Everything we needed was at our disposal, every room was spotlessly clean, and Betsy and Bob could not have been more welcoming or responsive to our needs.
We love Cedar House and would recommend it as a venue for just about any event. Party, reunion, wedding, or corporate retreat, it just doesn't get any better than this.
My stay at the Cedar House was so wonderful - and was made even better by the accommodating owners, who went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to make our 15-person Bachelor Party go off without a hitch. The Cedar House is quite large and quite beautiful -- more so than the pictures suggest. With 15 guys in our late-20s, I was a bit concerned about space, amenities, etc. but found that the house was perfectly suited to our needs and more than up to standard in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and overall upkeep.
I spent the months leading up to my visit emailing back and forth with Betsy, who answered all of my questions within 24 hours and gave some great tips not only about amenities at the house, but also about the area, limo rental companies, places to visit in Tampa/Clearwater, etc. As I was coordinating 15 guys flying in from all over the country, having never been to Clearwater, this was a huge help and something I couldn't have done without some guidance. Betsy and Bob were on-site to meet us and show us around the house and even agreed to let us check in a bit early and check out a tad late to line up with our flight schedule.
We found that the house was stocked with all that we needed - linens, towels, etc. and also items for the kitchen, pool equipment/games, and a variety of other "extras" that made our stay comfortable and enjoyable - some from the house and some from past guests. The house itself is beautiful and enjoys picturesque Florida views, being right on the water. We got tons of great use out of the pool and hot tub and the many different areas in the house. Given the reasonable price, spaciousness of the house, and above-and-beyond professionalism of the owners, I'd recommend the Cedar House to any large group visiting the area.
We had a staff & volunteer retreat-slash-training event and our stay at the Cedar House was absolutely perfect! The number of bedrooms (and separate beds!) made it possible for all of us to stay together and sleep and eat and work under one roof, morning, noon, and night. For team-building and creating connections, there is no better venue for a group like ours than to share a space like this one. We held our training sessions in the big dining room, which was easily converted into a training area with a screen and projector. Plenty of seats for everyone and no one had to sit with their back to the trainer, that was great!
For mealtimes, we didn't have to move our training materials, we brought in tables and chairs and set them up in the Florida room which has that great view of the water! The setup with the two kitchens seemed superfluous at first but we soon found that it was *perfect* for our needs! Whether we had food brought in or we prepared it ourselves, we had ample room for both food preparation and for serving it to the group. The layout provided a natural flow from the training (dining) room, through the buffet line in the first kitchen, to the beverage and dessert station in the second kitchen, and then right out to the Florida room where we could all eat and enjoy the camaraderie of breaking bread together as a group.
Before, after, and between training-and-working times, our staff and volunteers took advantage of the house amenities, enjoying the big screen TV, DVD player and access to cable, and of course the hot tub and pool. We all split the shower schedule between mornings and evenings and incredibly, we all had hot water the entire time we were there.
We had one issue while we were there (we couldn't figure out how to turn the hot tub on!) and there was someone there to help us out within an hour! We could not have been happier with the responsiveness of the owner and her representative, they were both very accommodating and prompt. Oh, and by the way, though the house is older (which we loved because of the character and history), it is absolutely spotlessly clean!
Would we stay at the Cedar House again? Without a doubt. Our staff and volunteers are already asking when we can go back! Thanks so much to Betsy for letting us feel like her house was ours for six whole days.
We stayed here for 5 days with our extended family of 12. There was plenty of room to spread out. The pool and backyard are a great area to relax in. The owners, Betsy and Bob, are very accommodating and easy to work with. Clearwater Beach is a very nice beach just a few miles from the house. The dining room is large enough for everyone to eat at the large table. We enjoyed our stay very much!
17 people (parents and children, aged 17 to 20) stayed in the house for a week.
We all had a lovely time, and there is plenty of room for everyone, even if you would like to be alone for a while.
Easy access to foodshop, pooltable, swimingpool and very good aircondition.
We all enjoyed the place very much, and would like to come back another year.
Regards 17 people from Norway.
