About Kimberly

This is a family owned cottage. As a child, my family would come up to the cottage for summer vacations. Now, we all live in the area, so we use it to enjoy time with friends and for family at the holidays. The grandmother was a teacher in the area, my mom grew up in Muskegon; she now owns the cottage. I live and work here and manage the online account and do all the gardening at the cottage.

Why Kimberly chose Muskegon

My grandmother bought this cottage in the 60's, and when she passed on, my parents took on the cottage. It is on a quiet end of the lake, surrounded mostly by year round residents. It was a fun place to learn to waterski and to just play in the sun and water. The lake is at an all time low right now.

What makes this cottage unique

On a quiet end of the lake, but just off highway so easy access to everything. You are no more than a five - ten minute drive from malls, the beach, Lake Michigan, restaurants, grocery stores - it is all here. Muskegon is a busy place in the summer with free music in many places, art fairs and museums, a WWI submarine that is also a museum, lighthouses, etc.

There is a boat launch 1/2 mile from the cottage. Downtown Muskegon offers Party in the Park most every Friday night in summer. We were blown away by the landscaping & back yard area! We spent the bulk of our time on the deck, looking over the lake in the evenings. Being close to the highway wasn't an issue, even with all of the motorcycles during BikeTime. You can hear the traffic, but it wasn't nearly like what we expected. The home is fully equipped with all of the soaps, detergents, utinsels, towels & even a small cooler. There are games & books, and lots of local info. The lake was better than we thought-warmer than Lake Michigan, and the bottom was pure sand & shallow-our 8 year old daughter can walk out 50-70 yards & still have her head up. The boat traffic was light, since the home is near the back of the lake. You step off the dock & it's calf-deep. It wasn't fishy-smelling & clean. There seemed to only be one water plant, that didn't impede us in any of our play time. The pedal boat was fun & the neighbors were fantastic, loaning us Crocs to wear in the water (for safety) & big swim tubes. The home is very close the Muskegon center & easy to access. Lots of history, museums, unique restaurants & parks. We had a great time exploring their city!

Our stay at this cottage was wonderful! The furniture was comfortable, everything we needed (yes, even condiments, toilet paper and laundry detergent) was supplied, the location on the lake was very relaxing and it was close to all the things we wanted to do. Even the neighbors were nice! My only disappointment was the "grill," which was an older, iron hibachi. I'm spoiled with our gas grill and having one there would have made it absolutely perfect. I've stayed at many condos and rental homes and this was by far one of the best in the things that count. Was it the most luxurious? No, but I've stayed in some absolutely beautiful places that I wouldn't return to again because they lacked almost everything else that I look for in a home rental - and I had to just about pack up my house to stay there for a week (bed linens, towels, supplies). This place really had it all. I would ABSOLUTELY come here again.

Owner provided great and accomodating service. Rental is small but clean and well maintained. Front of house faces major roadway but the backyard is on Mona Lake and is absolutely lovely. The backyard is where we spent the majority of our time. There is a small dock, sandy beach area and decking with chairs for lounging. Adequate parking. Friendly neighbors. Would rent again and will recommend to others.
