Come and relax at our cabin right on the Hiawassee River in the Smoky Mountains. Our cabin is located on a very large secluded lot that overlooks the Hiawassee River. The views of the river and mountains are spectacular! Walk down the steps through the gently sloped back yard to the edge of the Hiawassee where you can enjoy the hammock, fish for trout, bass, and bream (THIS IS A FISHERMAN'S DREAM!), swimming, kayaking, rafting, or simply relax!
Our riverfront cabin is located halfway between Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina (JUST 2 HOURS NORTH OF ATLANTA!) in the Smoky Mountains. Other nearby attractions include Brasstown Valley Resort and Golf (only 10 miles away), Fires Creek (wilderness area), Shooting Creek, Elf, and Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee is only 10 minutes away.
The cabin is a well decorated cedar cabin (with brand new HARD WOOD FLOORS throughout) which offers a master bedroom that has a queen bed set, Direct TV, and french doors that open to the screened in porch overlooking the river.
The guest room also offers a queen bedroom set. An open kitchen with a center island bar, breakfast/dining area, a family room with french doors that open to a screened-in deck, and a stone gas fireplace are just some of the amenities that make this a very charming place to stay. The open decks on both sides of the screened in porch lets you enjoy the rushing river view and sounds of the outdoors.
For those of you that like to entertain, you can enjoy our newly renovated entertainment room located at the back of the house. It has new hard wood floors, half bathroom, direct TV, new pool table, dart board, and French doors that open up to the river! Because of the above and our paved road access, our mountain hideaway is considered to be one of the best cabin rentals in the area.
My boyfriend and I stayed here over the weekend. Strickland was very accommodating and understanding, even though I had pretty last minute plans! The cabin was very clean and well-maintained. I'm a neat freak and would notice otherwise. We really enjoyed being so close to the river, and our dogs did too! The river and area overall was really pretty even for winter. Even though it was definitely cold outside, it was an excellent place for a "getaway" and we found neat local stuff to do: thrift store shopping - there are SO many around, visited a local winery called Eagle Fork Vineyards, ate at this restaurant called Brother's (that was absolutely amazing and inexpensive!), and just relaxed. It was definitely worth the trip.
This is our 4th year staying here and each year we say this is the best year yet and this year was the best year yet! The cabin was in perfect order when we got there. The weather was great and the fish were biting. We enjoyed fishing, playing pool and grilling on the charcoal grill which makes the food taste so much better. The sounds from the river can be heard anywhere in the house and is soothing, peaceful and relaxing. The trip to the falls in Hayesville 5 miles away was a nice afternoon hike for several of the family members. Saturday we went to the Farmers Market in Murphy, NC and enjoyed walking around the town. We did not know that Hayesville, NC has a farmers market until the day before we left and we plan to go next year when we return for our 5th year to this wonderful cabin. Our dogs had a great time, especially running at the river, getting in the water and chasing each other with sticks in their mouths. As always, Strickland - the owner - called us the 1st day to make sure we got there safely and that everything was perfect in the cabin. If there is a problem, we tell him or call him and he comes to fix the problem or sends someone right away to take care of it. No matter what the problem is, he wants to make it right and will go out of his way to make sure it gets done and our stay is a great one. He doesn't care how many times you call or email him. He is the type of owner that wants to make your stay an excellent experience and will go out of his way to make sure this happens. For instance, the coffee maker was broken and he had a neighbor go by and pick up a new one that night and bring it to us along with coffee for us. Now that is instant service.
This was our kids favorite vacation that they have ever been on. We went white water rafting, noodling (aka Hillbilly Handfishing), went down slide rock and rented a pontoon boat. The kids loved all of those things, but when we asked them what they wanted to do the last two days of vacation, they said "we just want to hang at our place". So we cooked big breakfasts, swung on the rope swing, and floated, fished and swam in the river. Then when we got hungry we had hot dogs and smores over the fire. From everywhere on the property, you can hear the water rushing over some of the rocks in the river. We absolutely loved it. All I can say is.....perfect.
We were looking for a place to go within a few hours drive. We wanted a place on the water in the mountains so we could fish and couldn't believe we got so lucky here. The cabin itself was clean and cozy. We spent most of our time down by the river which is beautiful or playing pool. The pool room was really fun. It has a bar area with fridge and TV/Stereo and it's own deck over looking the river.
We caught a few trout and overall just relaxed! The owner was very accommodating and always available if we had questions.
We recommend this cabin to anyone with families or a romantic getaway for 2. We hope to come back next summer!
Cleanliness – We have rented many homes via VRBO/Homeaway and will continue to do so but must say this was the filthiest place we have ever stayed. I should have noticed that none of the reviews said it was clean. Lesson learned. We chose not to contact owner regarding the filth because it would have taken days to adequately clean the place and we could not find another rental at the last minute in the same area that was located on the water(we searched VRBO for 2 hrs).
Arrived late afternoon with refrig/freezer groceries. Took 45 minutes to clean frig. Spilled milk/juice/food splatters covered glass trays and support arms. Turned on oven and place filled with smoke so we had to scrape out oven. The base of the kitchen faucet, dish drain was covered in grim/sludge . All counter tops were filthy.. All around the sink edges where it meets tile was black and slimy. Around drain of sink was black and slimy. Microwave filthy. We bought cleaning supplies and cleaned sink, drains, faucets, dish drain, grout around sink, microwave. Covered island and table with plastic tableclothes. Toilet seat hinge was broken and urine covered the hinges. The towels, hand towels, facecloths and kitchen towels smelled of kitchen grease. The bed linens had a greasy smell and a couple of hairs on the bottom sheet when we pulled back the top sheet. We brought laundry detergent so we had to remove and wash the sheets and towels. Floors filthy. Be careful of water backing up in tub. Believe cold water hose is clogged(it is turned on all the way) on washer. Only cold rinse so takes about 1 1/2 hr per load. Mattress springs pop when turning over in bed and wakes both up. The gas grill was nasty and several inches of grime/grease etc. in bottom. Hole about 14” diameter is completely rusted out next to LP tank. Very dangerous. Area rugs were not vacuumed and living room rug looked as if a dog had chewed one corner. Also dog or cat hairs on furniture and rugs. There were more issues but I will stop here.
NO chiminea as in photos. No hammock. The condition of the cabin is a real shame. The view and access of the property is excellent.
We took many photos and plan to send the owner a more detailed list of issues that will include photos.
