If you want to get away from it all without ending up alone in the middle of the woods--Welcome to Water’s Edge, a sweet 1 bedroom cottage on Western Bay. Water’s Edge is in a very small and friendly neighborhood only a few minutes drive to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, yet you have the luxury of peace and quiet away from the crowds and cars. Location and charm make Water’s Edge a very good choice for the two of you to get away alone! Water’s Edge has a separate bedroom with a queen bed. In the open floor plan living space there is a sleeper/sofa, full kitchen, and dining. There is cable TV and internet, washer/dryer, gas grill and lawn chairs. A wall of windows in the main living area offers gorgeous water views and breathtaking sunrises. Walk down to the water from your front door to launch the canoe or 2-person kayak waiting for when you arrive! Or plop down in the sun to read that book you’ve been dying to open. Pets are considered.

The Little Cottage from Heaven

After recently having spent 7 days in critical care at a local hospital. The decision to rent Water's Edge Cottage was one of the best decisions I ever made. To be able to sit on the deck in the morning having my coffee watching the seagulls swoop down to grab clams and drop them futher down the beach to break them open for their breakfast was the best medicine I could have received. Arriving at Water's edge and finding a spotless cottage and grounds was the best recovery I could have had, Daily visits from family members made for a wonderful week for all of us. From dealing with Jaye and Bob to the evening visits each night by the local flock of wild turkeys this was the closet thing to heaven I can find. I would rent this cottage again in the blink of an eye.
Owner's Response: Water's Edge is such a special place--easy, uncomplicated living that lets you get back to the simple pleasures in life. The bay stretches out before you with mountains jutting up on the far shore. The smell of fresh salt air and pine trees, gulls sounding in the distance, it all blends into an indescribable feeling of finally being right where you belong...at Water's Edge.

Very nice cottage with nice views, enjoyed canoe as we used it to see eagles and seals. cottage has everything you would find at home. Close to stores and National Park's. Lots of things to do and see in this area. My wife and I will stay at his cottage again.

Owner's Response: The quiet and natural setting surrounding Water's Edge Cottage makes it a wonderland for birds and animals of all sorts. Don't be surprised if you wake up and find a big flock of turkeys nosing around the yard looking for breakfast!

Water's Edge is just where you want to be when it's time to "get out of Dodge" and enjoy the simple pleasures of Downeast Maine, yet be only minutes from the action of downtown Bar Harbor and the splendor that is Acadia National Park.

I stayed at Water's Edge August 1st through the 8th and my first impression of the place was that it was even more amazing in person than in the pictures. Everything from the welcome basket, the windows overlooking the ocean, the 2 person kayak and the convenience to nearby attractions were all exactly what I was looking for. I enjoyed watching the seals in the morning from a very private beach area with the only other people being an occasional kayaker floating peacefully by. It was nice to be at the end of the road as there was no traffic other than the neighbors across the street. My dog thoroughly enjoyed her daily swim in the ocean as well. I would recommend Water's Edge cottage to anyone lookining to explore the Bar Harbor/Acadia area while also looking to enjoy peaceful, quiet and beautiful surroundings. I would not recommend this cottage however for people who have difficulty with stairs as there is a steep flight of stairs down to the beach.
Owner's Response: They say a picture is worth a thousand words but as our guest from New Hampshire points out, even the pictures don't do justice to Water's Edge Cottage. The views are absolutely stunning. You have privacy and peace and quiet without being too far removed from all that Bar Harbor and Acadia Park have to offer. Perfect for couples or solo adventurers, Water's Edge will make you feel comfortably at home from the moment you arrive.

Water's Edge Wonder

Pulling up to water's edge, we knew we were in for a great week. What a view, the dog immediately took off for the water and started swimming. The cottage was perfect for us and had every amenity we could need. We ended up driving into bar harbor and acadia more than we thought we would since there was so much to see and do, but the drive was so easy and short. I even managed to impress a local when laying on a raft in the bay. The kayak and canoe were fun, and eating lobster daily a huge plus to the trip. We could not have asked for better weather and the early morning crows made sure we didn't miss any of the day! We are sure to be planning a trip back to Maine soon.
Owner's Response: Our Baltimore couple knew what they wanted:

1: A waterfront cottage.
2: A private beach.
3: Room for their 4-legged "kid" to run.
4: Some place quiet and relaxing but close to everything.
5: All of the above without breaking the bank.

Impossible dream? Not at Water's Edge! This cottage is one-of-a-kind and more than worth looking into further. Perhaps the best kept secret in Downeast Maine...

we loved waters edge!

My wife and i stayed at Waters edge for 1 week in June. The place had the best view of the bay. Some days we just sat and stared at the water from the living room. It was so quiet and peaceful. My wife ended up reading 4 books cover to cover! It was about a 15 min drive to Acadia, really close to hiking/biking trails. the place comes with a two person kayak so we trolled around the bay until we got tired. It was perfect. Rural enough to not to hear the neighbors, and conveniently located within a short drive to stores/restaurants. Grill and kitchen saved us money on food. Overall a very reasonable, fun, and memorable trip. Only complaint was we only had 1 week at the cottage. Next time we will book more time.
