Antietam Guest House is a historic log and stone home in the quiet rural town of Sharpsburg, best known for its proximity to the Antietam National Battlefield, site of the famous Civil War battle. The house is one block off Main Street, 4 miles from Shepherdstown, West Virginia, 10 miles from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and 13 miles from Hagerstown, Maryland. The house is within walking distance to casual and fine dining and within hiking/biking distance to the Potomac River and the C&O Canal and towpath. The half-acre lot offers plenty of room for outside activity.

Notes: Wood Fireplace: The fireplace is not operational! But the stone fireplace has been converted into a romantic, charming 'candleplace,' a focal point for the downstairs gathering room. Charcoal BBQ Grill: Charcoal, starter, and matches are on site. Space for the grill is close to the deck. Please let us know if you wish to use the grill. We will set it out for you. Pet Friendly: No cats because of allergies. Dogs allowed for extra charge. Landing with reclining chaise lounge, rocking chairs, reading materials make up our landing library on the third level, Prime Outlets shopping 12 miles north; Appalachian Trail is five miles east. Shepherd University, three miles to the south, offers many activities (sports events, Contemporary American Theatre Festival, and a great cafeteria).

The house and location are perfect for weekend getaways and family vacations. Three levels offer privacy and convenience at the same time. The downstairs level features a 'living' rock wall foundation and a 'candleplace.' Sharpsburg is a quiet, residential town of about 700. Its location makes it a great home base for exploring the historical sites in Western Maryland and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. In addition to the Antietam National Battlefield and Cemetery, you will find the Pry House Field Hospital Museum of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, John Brown's headquarters at the Kennedy Farm, the Antietam Iron Works, and Ferry Hill Plantation, home of Henry Kyd Douglas, Confederate officer who 'rode with Stonewall Jackson.'

Shepherdstown, WV, is filled with unique shops and outstanding restaurants. It is the home of Shepherd University and a put-in spot for Potomac River activities. For those who wish to venture farther from the immediate area, several state parks on the eastern border of Washington County offer other recreational opportunities. Those who wish to shop will find Hagerstown a mecca of shopping malls easily reached from main roads and Interstate highways.

Many lovely touches like big tea cups, hand made
quilts, white candles, and comfort. This is a lovely
place to get away from it all and come to your senses.
Much to do in the surrounding area. I like eating in
Shepherdstown and walking the battlefield. Great
place. Thank you

A charming and cozy guest house in an ideal setting for touring the area and the Battlefield. We truly enjoyed our stay. It was like a home away from home.

This is the sweetest place to stay with family and
friends. The house has a really nice feeling and is
close to all the Civil War sites. Not too far from the
DC/Baltimore area either. The beds are comfortable
and the back porch, front porch, upstairs
downstairs lend room for everyone. Great place,
very affordable. I will stay there again.
