In Falmouth's Historic District and on the Falmouth Road Race route, hardwood floors, dishwasher, washer & dryer, Webber gas grill, porch with cool ocean breeze, flat-screen TV, gas fireplace, beautifully landscaped surroundings, picnic tables, 8-minute walk to town, 2-minute walk to beach, close to Shining Sea Bike Path, Spohr Gardens and Martha's Vineyard ferries. Two bicycles are provided for free (each would be $100 per week at Falmouth rental rates).
The Neighborhood: This is a year-round established neighborhood in Falmouth's Historic District. It is cooled by pleasant sea breezes, making the porch an especially delightful spot to enjoy a book and a beverage. The location is ideal for the biking enthusiast, being a short ride to the Shining Sea Bike Path which connects picturesque Wood's Hole with North Falmouth (12-14 miles each way). If you are a coffee nut and like to spend time over great coffee, I recommend the Coffee Obsession. There is one in Woods Hole another in the 'Queens Buyway' in Falmouth center. Also highly recommend 'Pie in the Sky'in Woods Hole for breakfast sandwiches and great coffee. From the house it is a short walk to Falmouth Harbor, where the Clam Shack provides great eating while you sit and watch the boat traffic in and out of the harbor.
Falmouth Center: The center of Falmouth is an 8-minute walk. The town library, which has a large selection of DVD's, wifi, and a great selection of books. There is a variety of restaurants along main street catering to varied tastes. Park your car in the driveway for the week. Bike and walk. While you can drive a couple miles to Stop and Shop or Shaws supermarket, I recommend biking or walking the Windfall Market, across from the harbor, for your shopping. If you're a bargain shopper, Falmouth has a WalMart, Christmas Tree Shop and Ocean State Job Lot.
Golf: There are a number of great golf courses in the area. My favorite is Cape Cod Country Club, followed by Falmouth Country Club. Check out their websites for details.
I am a retired career educator, having been a classroom teacher for many years and later a high school principal, My father, a master carpenter, built the house in the early 1950's. At first it was a summer house, but my parents later winterized it for year-round use. This was the house in which I spent my summers growing up. When my mother passed away I inherited the house. At that time I had it completely renovated, while retaining its traditional character and charm.
This 'doll's house' is uniquely situated for both relaxation and activity, having ready access to beach, harbor and town center. Because of the family memories and our affection for the area, my wife Claire (also a retired career educator) and I maintain the house and yard as a labor of love.
Our favorite spot is the porch, where cooling sea breezes enhance viewing the roses, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, mountain laurel, wysteria, holly trees and other plants that bloom in sequence from spring through fall.
I stayed at this property together with my wife and 15 year old son in August 2013.
The house is beautiful, perfect for a small family and the location is superb, 150 yards to the beach and 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of town.
It has everything you would expect - Fully equipped kitchen, beautiful garden, outside terrace and seating but also some things that you might not - full TV package with sport and movie channels (perfect for a 15 year old), free wireless internet access, large gas BBQ, all linen and towels provided, including beach towels and, best of all, two full size mountain bikes that we used constantly.
The owners, Dennis and his wife Clare, could not have been more welcoming. They greeted us personally on arrival, answered all our questions and offered helpful recommendations and suggestions for our week in Falmouth.
Falmouth itself is a great choice; a charming town, not too touristy but with everything needed for a perfect holiday - beaches, harbour, nature trails, cycle paths, restaurants, shops and easy access to the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket ferries. We were visiting from the UK and my son and I were lucky enough to get places in the Falmouth Road Race, which made the trip even more memorable.
In summary, a great house in a superb location. I would not hesitate to recommend it.
My daughter and I recently stayed in this charming cape for our summer vacation. The house was emaculate and was stocked with everything you could possibly need. The beautifuly manicured landscape and well cared for plantings were a great setting while we relaxed on the sea breeze porch at the end of the day and reminised about our days adventure. The adventures were plentiful, given the convience of the location of this house. There was no need to drive anywhere and we didn't. The beach, bike path, center of town and harbor were all in walking distance and not only provided our entertainment for the week but exercise as well. I highly recommend this sweet home. The owners are lovely and the process was smooth and easy.
The house is located in the Historic District of Falmouth--2 minute walk to beach and 8 minutes to town center. Town center has great playground for kids. Falmouth Harbor is a short walk. Ferries are available there to both Oak Bluffs and Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. Shining Sea bike path connects to Woods Hole and West Falmouth. Yard is beautifully landscaped.
Note to runners and running enthusiasts: This house is on the Falmouth Road Race course.
