The way Maine should be.......

We just returned from Lands End cottage and had an amazing time. The cottage is right on the water and well stocked with everything you need. The master bedroom overlooks the lake with a small master bathroom and cute screened in porch for coffee and relaxing. Kitchen is well stocked and the glassed in living room overlooks a flower garden and fountain. The large upper deck has an amazing view of the lake (almost on the water) and plenty of room for eating outside and having cookouts. The downstairs has separate quarters and two decks with party lights which is really great for teens. The lake is so quiet we didn't see one boat the entire time. There is a swimming raft and a great hammock to snooze on by the water. The rainbow over the lake was breathtaking and the pontoon boat ride given to us by the owners was fun. Acadia is less than an hour with some scenic areas to look at. We had popovers at Jordan's in Acadia (reservations a must for outside sitting in peak season). I would suggest parking at Sand Beach and taking ocean walk to thunder hole. Also, if you're really adventurous, a nice climb to the top of Gorham Mtn. trail down the road from there has totally inspiring and amazing views of the ocean and islands. We took a boat ride from Bass Harbor/ Island Cruise (a well kept secret - reservations needed) and saw hundreds of seals, the salmon hatchery, lobsters and plenty of birds. The harbor is a real fishing village and this cruise was voted best by Yankee Magazine a few years back. Coming out of Acadia, is a wine tasting vinery and the Atlantic brewing company has beer tasting. Not too far from the cottage we had ice cream at Jordan's and ate at Ruth and Wimpy's which had great lobster for a really reasonable price. All in all, a great time and highly recommended if you want to be in a tourist area but far from the hustle and bustle of stores and cars and on a nice quiet lake with absolutely no traffic noise and plenty of stars and loons heralding the night moon.
