Notes: Lands End was named for the beauty and serenity I felt when I first visited. On the front porch are at least five undisturbed birds nest that yearly have new arrivals and can be viewed form the couch in the front room. In spring feedings may be viewed. The peacefulness of the ponds edge offers a home to many wildlife species. I have viewed beavers, deer, raccoons, so many different birds, including the Blue herring, eagles, loons, chipmunks, squirrels, and of course the fish that jump from the river and occasionally a turtle is spotted. This cabin is a great place to bring your family for a peaceful vacation, but yet close enough. Fishing from the canoe can be great fun for the whole family, the evening campfire can be a relaxing way to end your day, or enjoy a late night snack, a hot dog or maybe a smore. Come and enjoy your home away from home at Lands End.

The way Maine should be.......

Review Submitted: August 15, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
We just returned from Lands End cottage and had an amazing time. The cottage is right on the water and well stocked with everything you need. The master bedroom overlooks the lake with a small master bathroom and cute screened in porch for coffee and relaxing. Kitchen is well stocked and the glassed in living room overlooks a flower garden and fountain. The large upper deck has an amazing view of the lake (almost on the water) and plenty of room for eating outside and having cookouts. The downstairs has separate quarters and two decks with party lights which is really great for teens. The lake is so quiet we didn't see one boat the entire time. There is a swimming raft and a great hammock to snooze on by the water. The rainbow over the lake was breathtaking and the pontoon boat ride given to us by the owners was fun. Acadia is less than an hour with some scenic areas to look at. We had popovers at Jordan's in Acadia (reservations a must for outside sitting in peak season). I would suggest parking at Sand Beach and taking ocean walk to thunder hole. Also, if you're really adventurous, a nice climb to the top of Gorham Mtn. trail down the road from there has totally inspiring and amazing views of the ocean and islands. We took a boat ride from Bass Harbor/ Island Cruise (a well kept secret - reservations needed) and saw hundreds of seals, the salmon hatchery, lobsters and plenty of birds. The harbor is a real fishing village and this cruise was voted best by Yankee Magazine a few years back. Coming out of Acadia, is a wine tasting vinery and the Atlantic brewing company has beer tasting. Not too far from the cottage we had ice cream at Jordan's and ate at Ruth and Wimpy's which had great lobster for a really reasonable price. All in all, a great time and highly recommended if you want to be in a tourist area but far from the hustle and bustle of stores and cars and on a nice quiet lake with absolutely no traffic noise and plenty of stars and loons heralding the night moon.

Wonderful time was had by all

Review Submitted: August 14, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
The pictures posted here on Home Away really don't show how spacious and well maintained the cottage feels. We had 4 adults and one child staying for a week and never felt crowded or like we didn't have our own space. Having 2 bathrooms and on-site laundry was a definite plus too!
The views from the porch and decks were amazing whether it was a sunrise/sunset or watching the fog roll across the pond- the everchanging view was a photographers delight. Too bad we didn't have the cameras ready for the thunderstorm the lightening flashes were breathtaking over the pond.
We enjoyed grilling and eating on the deck almost every evening- the huge gas grill and side burners enabled us to cook a feast. Plenty of pots and pans to cook anything from popovers to lobsters.
Our hosts Mimi and Bert were a joy and gave lots of good suggestions for restaurants and places to visit. We were sorry to miss our trip to the Maine Everglades (hopefully in our future)
