The condo property is located in the southeast coast of Puerto Rico, in the municipality of Maunabo. It's in a resort called Villas del Faro (google internet), named after the last Spanish-built Lighthouse before Puerto Rico was ceded to the USA by Spain in 1898. The Lighthouse, 5 mins drive is now being restored, and you can visit. The resort features 2 swimming pools, tennis court, basketball court. It's in a hill overlooking Playa Larga on the East, a gorgeous and sparsely visited golden sand beach. On the South side it faces the Caribbean sea, and the valley and river of Maunabo. It has an ample backyard with an impressive view of the sea and the mountains. Perfect for BBQ in the afternoon. Everyone is welcomed, but the place is specially attractive to families on budget. Twenty minutes away in Yabucoa Ralph's Warehouse has all the groceries you'll need. One hour from San Juan allows for 1-day visits. The apartment owner is gay-friendly. (Mas adelante, en espanol).
Espanol: La propiedad esta localizada en la costa sureste de Puerto Rico, municipio de Maunabo. Es un lugar de veraneo llamado Villas del Faro, en referencia al Faro de Maunabo, el ultimo construido por los espanoles antes de ceder Puerto Rico a los EEUU en 1898. El Faro, cinco minutos en auto, esta siendo restaurado y abierto para visitas. Esta en un promontorio con vista hacia el lado este a la Playa Larga, una bella playa de arenas doradas y en estado virgen. Al lado sur se ve el Mar Caribe, asi como el valle y el rio de Maunabo. El apartamento posee un amplio patio con una vista maravillosa de las montanas y el mar. Perfecto para una barbacoa en la tarde. En Yabucoa, a veinte minutos, Ralph’s Warehouse tiene todo lo necesario para suplirse por unos dias. San Juan esta a una hora de viaje en auto, y se puede ir y venir el mismo dia. El lugar es especialmente atractivo para familias con presupuesto limitado, pero todo el mundo es bien recibido, incluyendo hombres y mujeres gays.
Stairs / Escaleras: Although this patio-apartment is on the first floor of the buildiing, the entrance to the building is on the thrid floor. This means you have to go down two sets of stairs to get to the apartment, and go up the stairs to leave the apartment.
Aunque el apartamento esta en el primer piso del edificio, la entrada al edificio esta en el tercer piso. Eso significa que usted tendra que bajar dos sets de escaleras para llegar al apartamento, y subirlas para salir.
Wasn't sure if I was going to like this location at first. We had major trouble at the car rental making our arrival an hour later, in the dark and keeping me from getting groceries that day (my vacation doesn't begin till the groceries are bought). Got lost; asked for help from a woman who spoke only Spanish. Eventually a man guided us (drove us) to the villas. The villas gateman's English was limited so that took awhile for him to complete paperwork to let us in. But after that, the place began to grow on me. The condo was nice. No A/C in LR but breeze was good. A/C worked great in bedrooms. The beach was at the bottom of the villas (drive the car), across a small street, park in the "grass" and a quick, level, easy walk to the sand. Watch for the beautiful blue iguanas in the area and big lizards in the overhead trees munching on leaves!! Awesome! Ocean is a little rough but fun. Watch your younger kids and don't go out too deep. Two GREAT pools!! Enjoy them! Sunday, we drove 3 mins into Maunabo and found Danny's Supermarket, a mom and pop grocery store that had almost everything we needed to cook. A nice pharmacy was across the street from Danny's. A larger grocery, Ralph's Food Store, is just a 10 min drive down the mountain in Yabucoa. This condo is a bit far from major cities. San Juan is 1h 15m, Humacao is a great town about 25min away--has a great nature preserve, Walmart, American type restaurants (even though we ate at several local restaurants on the mountain and at the foot of it). Remember a few things: when you're driving on 901 up the mountain to the condo, you cross a small bridge and there is a road sign PR 53. Turn left on it. Easy bypass to get you back to 901. A left turn where PR 53 ends puts you right at the Puma Station (no gas fyi) and just beyond that on your right is 7760, the small road that takes you to the gate of the villas. Next, everything shuts down on Monday and Tuesday so don't plan for a dinner out, groceries or anything on those two days. Humacao had some restaurants open (whew!) Finally most everywhere takes credit but be prepared to pay CASH for gas. We spent every morning in rocking chairs and patio chairs, relaxing and staring at the view while birds, roosters called. Only reason for the 4 star is the location. Beautiful but a bit far away from the hustle and bustle of beachfront condos that I'm used to in the states. But I think our whole group of 6 would definitely go back!.
We had a great time at this property. We really liked the area and the beach was practically deserted. Everything was clean and the view was spectacular. A very good value overall. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
I had the most amazing time in this rental with my family!! I will plan on renting it again next summer. Its not fancy but its homey and comfy. close to the beach and lighthouse. magnificent view from the back yard and the parking area. It is by far the best and most affordable place I have ever rented. Mr santiago is wonderful and curtious. My kids loved it so much that they want to move to maunabo now...lol. if you take a right hand turn out of the condo past the lighthouse there is a nice lil store that has the best breakfast sandwitches. and heading towards los pinos is a ice cream shop that has natural ice cream...delicious!! san juan is only about 1-2 hours away and el yunque is about 1 hour away from the condo. I hope you do rent from mr santiago because I promise you won't regret it...godbless
What a BEAUTIFUL place. What a beautiful sunrise to wake up to also!! I highly recommend this place. The owner of the condo we rented is a very honest person and trust worthy. The price we paid was well worth it. Very inexpensive. All you need is your clothes and personal items and you are set. Food too if you plan on cooking otherwise that is all you need! The only downfall was no TV's in the condo. Thank God for portable DVD players! Definitly will/am going to go back to this place!
This was a wonderful place to stay at. The view is amazing, very relaxing and breeze because of it location. The condo was very spacious and clean and the pools were well kept. The rental process was quick and hasle free and the owner Luis was very attentive and informative. I would definately recommend this vacation rental if you want to relax and enjoy the nice morning ocean breeze as well as the view. I must admit that this side of the island has breath taking views which you can enjoy by a simple ride down routes #3 or 901. Also the ride down from san juan is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, not bad at all.
Excelente lugar para pasarla bien con amistades y /o familia.La vista es fabulosa!! Las facilidades, tanto del apartamento como del complejo,son comodas, acogedoras y limpias. Las piscinas (2) estan en excelentes condiciones y hay guardia constantemente dando rondas. Es la primera vez que utilizo el sistema de Internet para alquiler y mi familia y yo no nos arrepentimos, cumplio con las expectativas y mas. La comunicacion con el dueno es accesible y efectiva. Si deseas disfrutar tus vacaciones en un hermoso lugar de mi Isla,apartados del bullicio y cerca del mar y las montanas, te lo recomiendo; mi familia (tres hijas y mi esposo) quedamos encantados!!!!
Golf: This place is about 15 miles away from world-renowned Palmas del Mar Golf center in Humacao. It is also about the same distance to the new Chi Chi Rodriguez golf course in Guayama.
