Where Old Hawai'i Lives!

The district of Ka'u is not only the largest in the islands, it is also the only place that has never been conquered by invaders domestic or foreign. The people here are fiercely independent, and Ka'u thus remains one of the most remote, little visited, and authentic places in the islands. If you're looking to get a feel for what old Hawai'i must have been like, this is it. The wonderful home, fully "off the grid," is situated at rain forest altitude about the sleepy town of Waiohinu. The house is every bit as delightful as other reviewers have said, and it is very near to location of the ancient Hawai'ian village of Ha'ao. Giant mango trees, eucalyptus, banana, hibiscus and fantastic bamboo forests surround you.
From the Volcanoes National Park to the east, Punalu'u Black Sands beach nearby, the Tibetan Temple above Pahala, to the cliffs of Ka Lae and more, there is much to see and do. But, you'll find that once you're comfortably seated on the open-air lanai with a fresh cup of Kona coffee in hand - you may just not want to ever leave the property at all!
