The location, the view and the large size are all excellent. But the whole place is run down and shabby. Examples: hot water out of both spigots, broken toilet seats, broken leg on a chair, keys don't turn locks until 10 or 20 tries, sheets like sand paper, unkempt and unclean, etc. It felt as if we moved in before the owners moved out. If it were totally upgraded, it could be great.
Owner's Response: We have been shocked by your criticism: in the several years of
rental of this property and scores of very satisfied guests, this is the first
time we have had a negative review. We are especially surprised since you did not mention these matters during your stay although we called four times-as we always do, to give any help or advice--so that we could have looked into them. The apartment was redecorated at considerable expense in the last month and everybody has been very complimentary so it is incomprehensible to us that you call it unkept. On the other hand, although our cleaner has always been good and thorough, and recent guests have complimented us on the cleanliness of the apartment, we shall look into this. If the chair and the toilet seat were broken before your arrival, our cleaner would certainly have informed us as he always does after the departure of guests, so that we can follow up with the previous tenant regarding damages. As for sticking locks, it is notorious in Venice that during exceptionally hot and humid weather such as you experienced, the big iron doors of palazzi tend to swell and need a good shove to open. When you speak of the sheets, I can only think the cleaner must have used the very expensive linen sheets because Venice was so hot at that moment and that you do not like linen. Nonetheless, a dozen clean set of linen were available for your use in the linen closet. We do know that we cannot please everybody, and that we are bound to get one negative response among the many who have stayed here. This is the first. But we have taken note of your points and will check the condition of the apartment immediately.
