Picture your Ocean Front condo on a white sandy beach just yards from the Caribbean. Here you'll find immaculate snorkeling with reef clusters in every direction situated in warm shallow waters. This prime location gives it the best views on Half Moon Bay. Relax on the sand or enjoy our new swimming pool.
Akumal means 'place of the turtle' in Maya and Half Moon Bay is a major sea turtle nesting area. Seeing a mature turtle lay her eggs or watching a nest hatch is awsome! The eco center in town has many displays and related programs.
Yal Ku Lagoon, a fresh/saltwater snorkeling paradise, is a short walk away. You are easy walking distance to a number of restaurants, shops, and convenience stores. Akumal Bay is about a 1.7km away with many restaurants, markets, spa, yoga studio, shops, dive shops, artist's studio's and more.
We're a small, quaint, quiet, relaxing complex who's management team is located on site - friendly people to help fulfill your every need. Dive shops, adventure tours and even on site food preparers are available to help make your stay as special. Bike rentals available on site,
There is also a studio/efficiency casita (small house) available for the budget traveler. Also 2 bedroom/2 bath condos are available at this site.
Paul and I live on a lake in upstate New York. We are water people who love to travel. Paul is a horticulturist and I am a retired teacher and school couselor. We love swimming and snorkeling in the bay and sitting on the beach reading. We enjoy our morning coffee on our balcony and taking a beach walk. In the evening we enjoy a glass of wine watching the sunset on our roof top patio. Our children had their honeymoon in Akumal. Now they come with our grandchildren and we love watching them create wonders in the sand.
Marjorie Auteri purchased this condo in 2004
Paul & I started coming to the Yucatan in 1996. On our first trip we fell in love with the beaches and snorkeling in Akumal. We were fascinated by the Mayan ruins and culture. On our third trip we bought a beachfront condo in Playa del Carmen. When we were down in 2000 we were back in Akumal and realized this was the spot that made us love the area. Our one-bedroom is the perfect beachfront spot to plan our Mayan adventures. We also bought 2 studio/efficiencies for friends and family when they come to visit. The sunsets over the jungle are a perfect way to end our day.
We love the light and airy feel to our condo and its privacy. It is often called the Honeymoon Nest. After our morning beach walk we enjoy our breakfast on our balcony with the view of the Bay. The condo is in the sandy center of Half Moon Bay and the snorkeling is right out the door. Our management is wonderful, on site, and always there to make your stay a pleasant one. The condo is easy walking distance to a number of excellent restaurants, dive shop, and YalKu Lagoon. We end our day on the rooftop terrace and watch the sunset over the jungle and the moon rise over the water.
This is the third time my husband and I have stayed at this property. I can only say that it is wonderful in so many ways. Comments made in other reviews are still true. This visit we did more snorkeling in Half Moon Bay and saw some incredible schools of fish. You can rent snorkeling equipment at the office. You definitely will enjoy your stay here. The office staff speak good English if you need anything. The housekeeping staff clean every day and leave everything spotless. There is a big jug of water to use and it is replenished when needed. We always look forward to our stay here. If you are looking for a place to really relax this is it. Comments made by other reviewers are accurate.
We stayed at the La Joya #6 condo in Akumel, Mexico. This is a great, quiet get-away for the savvy and adventurous traveler, yet the ideal place for the novice Mexican vacationer to try for the first time. If you want to escape commercial tourist traps and experience a real relaxing vacation, there is no better place than Akumel.
It is an easy drive by rental car, taxi or regional bus from the Cancun airport. Though relatively close to Playa Del Carmen, the experience for a true get-a-way vacation in Akumel is still one of the best kept secrets along the Mayan Riviera coastline.
This condo at Half Moon Bay was beautiful, clean and stocked with a nice full kitchen. The views, pool and beach were gorgeous. The front desk staff spoke wonderful English and were incredibly accommodating, helpful and kind. We have traveled all over Mexico and this is hands down, our new favorite place. The people of Akumal were so gracious and sweet. Plus, the atmosphere of the town and all the cafes, restaurants, and shops were unique and charming to satisfy the diverse array of international travelers who know how to find a sweet spot like this!
As a bonus, renting cruiser bikes from the condo’s front office to get into town and around is a very fun way to explore all that Akumel has to offer. Definitely plan to snorkel outside the front door or at the nearby eco-snorkeling park. Keep in mind that you can rent snorkel gear from the front desk too. This is a true and authentic Mexican paradise. We will be back for sure!

This was our 2nd stay in an apartment in La Joya in Akumal. We really appreciate all the comfort and quiet of this condo. The pool, the beach, good restaurants nearby and especially Yal ku lagoon next to it. After a month of traveling in Mexico, we always end our stay by a few days in Akumal and apartments at La Joya are very nice with appreciable services (daily housekeeping) , wifi, tourist information, bicycle rental, etc.
I cannot express how fantastic this rental is. Everything went smoothly, view from balcony was gorgeous. We rented bikes for the week and that abled us to get to town and then on to the sites by collectivo/taxi. Room was clean, everything present to cook and relax after a day of sightseeing, or just sitting out front on the beach. I would like to especially mention the owner who graciously accomidated a late change in travel dates. Can't wait to return!
This was our second visit to this property and it was just as delightful as our first visit. The condo complex has added a very nice swimming pool on the ocean side of the complex, perfect for moonlight swims. There is so much to like about this condo. The local staff is very helpful if you need anything, housekeeping is excellent, the complex is small and has never been noisy during our stay. The view from the deck is gorgeous in both directions. The beach is never crowded and is raked every day. If you enjoy walking you are within walking distance of the Yal Ku Lagoon and can walk into Akumal. We feel safe walking after dark after dinner in Akumal although a flashlight would be helpful to have. Also helpful would be water shoes of some sort as there is some coral. Bring your own snorkel gear because you can snorkel right off the beach. If you get tired of relaxing there are many attractions within easy driving distance. If you don't have a rental car there are always taxis available.
We like to shop for groceries in Puerto Aventuras, but if you need to pick up something quickly we recommend the local store on the left side of the overpass bridge. Prices are more reasonable. If you go around the block you can get back on the overpass to return to Akumal.
We have enjoyed working with the owners of this property and would not hesitate to recommend this condo to family or friends.
My wife and I were fortunate to be able to stay 7 nights at this property.
Let's start with the view, this unit is on the third floor and there is a view out the bedroom window that looks over the top of the endless jungle pretty cool. However this pales to the view out the front of the unit which sits in the middle of Half moon bay so both South and North you can look down the beach and then out into the beautiful Caribbean blue sea. One of the reasons we go to Akumal is for the snorkeling and it is great right in front on the condo, starts a little shallow but then when you get out it's a very nice depth, one trip I saw 3 turtles a ray and always many different fish and corals. We also snorkeled Akumal bay where there always seems to be turtles and if you drift South you find corals and more fish, that is about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the condo. We ended up renting some bikes from Juan right downstairs, they weren't much but then not much money either and would ride them to the beach and restaurants in town. We also rode them to Akumal Pueblo, which is across the highway and seems to be where some of the workers live. The Last Mayan was a restaurant we ate at several times and Theresa who seemed to run the place was a lot of fun, my wife thought the fish tacos there were the best of the trip.
The weather was in the 80s while we were there and we saw the air conditioner but because the condo is set up so well for the breezes we never even thought of turning it on. I think the unit overall was very nice and the pictures represent it well with the exception of the view which is much better in person.
We had a great time and would feel fortunate if we were able to stay in this unit on a future trip.
Akumal means 'place of the turtle' in Mayan. Half Moon Bay is a noted turtle nesting beach. Depending on the time of year you can have the joy of watching the turtles nest and the excitement of watching a nest hatch. There is an eco-center in town that has all sorts
Out side your door is the beach with wonderful snorkeling and swimming. Loungers can be enjoyed under the beach palapas or around the swimming pool. There is a beach shower for you and your equipment to rinse off. Enjoy using our poolside BBQ. And for sunsets our roof top terrace are the best. Snorkeling in our bay is wonderful and the water is shallow out to the reef. Yal Ku Lagoon within easy walking distance of the condo and is a not to miss event. There is a Yoga studio in town that has a variety of classes at various times. There are beachfront restaurants and bars in easy walking distance and more in town. markets in town and twice a week a farmer's market
next to the basketball count. Akumal is well located on the Mayan Riveria. We are easy driving distance to Mayan Ruins, swim with the dolphins, cenotes, caves, colonial cities, eco-parks and adventure parks.
