Fishing is always in season. Stop by the Fripp Island Marina Ship Store, pick up a couple of sandwiches and head for one of the hot fishing or crabbing locations. Nearby Hunting Island, the jewel of the South Carolina State Parks with its 5,000 acres of natural beach and wildlife habitat, offers hiking trails, kayaking and other adventure opportunities. A Nature Center and large fishing and observation pier is located on Hunting Island - just over the Fripp Bridge.
Although it feels secluded, Fripp Island is just a short drive to some of the country's most historic sites in Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston. The charming riverfront town of Beaufort is named "favorite small Southern town" by readers of Southern Living
Magazine. A Beaufort sightseeing adventure can begin by foot, bicycle, boat or horse drawn carriage. Stroll through the waterfront historic district and admire the architecture, gallery hop, shop or dine at one of the fine restaurants which overlook the river. Many of Hollywood's finest movies have been filmed here and on Fripp Island including Forest Gump, Prince of Tides, The Big Chill, The Great Santini, and Jungle Book.
We were there for 4 days. Next year we are coming back for a week! Love being so close to water and the ocean sound. Dolphins everywhere! The 3 mi beach is a great walking beach.
Highly recommend. It is isolated which we loved. Beaufort is about 20+ miles inland. We did venture In for the Airshow featuring the Blue Angels. Peaceful and serene.
Sitting in the living room gazing out the slider at the dolphins swimming by, it’s easy to imagine that you’re on a cruise ship. If you tire of just relaxing with the view, there’s always the 3.5 mile beach and the walking/bike trails of nearby Hunting island. It’s also a great base for day trips to Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head. And, importantly, the condo is neat and clean – and the elevator certainly makes things a lot easier.
This is my idea of heaven on earth. I enjoy this condo so much, I'm looking forward to returning for my 3rd stay. I literally cannot wait to open the door again to this cozy and comfortable retreat. I always feel safe and serene there. The very first thing I always do is go out on the balcony and spend a few minutes just taking it all in - the salt air, the panoramic view that goes for miles and the rhythmic roar of the Atlantic. Fabulous! I've learned to watch for the kingfisher out on the rocks in front and the heron who stands sentry nearby. It's well worth waking up early to catch the gorgeous sunrise and you'll want to return for the amazing painted skies of late evening. The kitchen is well-equipped and I don't often venture out for meals, but it's a short and lovely drive into Beaufort. I can highly recommend the shrimp & grits at Saltus, which is right on the water.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how roomy the condo actually is. The rooms are bigger than they appear in the pictures. Comfortable and very clean. The half bath came in quite handy! The views are stunning, the Island itself is private, secure and lush. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here to a person traveling alone. At night we would open the door to the balcony, and the windows of the bedroom for the pleasant breeze and the ocean sounds. We were able to watch dolphin and pelicans fishing, and the deer would visit in the evening. We toured Savannah, Beaufort and Hunting Island, found a few off-the-beaten restaurants and historical places. If you want razzle dazzle, lights and action, this is not the place for you. However, if you want a clean, secure, peaceful and homey location, this is definitely it! Jackie is a dear to work with and supplies as much information as you need or want. All the comforts of home in this condo, without the annoyance of an alarm clock! We had a wonderful, restful time and will definitely come back when we can.
The condo is beautiful, the scenery is breath taking, the beach is peaceful and the wildlife is adorble. We were so relaxed and just enjoyed our time sitting on the beach, hanging out by the pool and visiting the local restaurants. The weather was picture perfect. Jackie really makes sure that you have everything you need or helps with any information. I hope we can make the journey back again. Liked it so much more than Florida.
My wife and I spent a wonderful week at jackie's condo at Fripp Island. The pictures do not do justice to the view from the deck or livingroom. Most days we could enjoy the dolphins and pelicans fishing right in front of us. Jackie was great in providing with places to eat near by. Went to all of them and enjoyed the casual atmosphere and food. We will definitely come back.
