Breathtaking sunsets will delight the senses from this comfortable well appointed Menemsha home. Bright, open and airy, there is a large deck off the front and an attached patio with six person hot tub. Our house is in a great spot just two properties back from Menemsha beach and there is a darling private path shared with the inns that allows you to stroll down to the beach, for coffee, papers, or just some morning exercise. This house works really well because the bedrooms are on one side and has a sense of privacy from the dining area, kitchen and living room,
Nearby there are trail systems for longer walks. We have access to two south shore beaches, Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket, both offer surf and different views. The house has two large bedrooms and a smaller 3rd all with multiple windows for god ventilation, new windows and an AC unit in the master.
About Menemsha: Menemsha is a quiet and quaint fishing village that is close to everything but removed enough to assure freedom from summer crowds.
The Kitchen is excellent and equipped for a chef.
There is also a fantastic outdoor shower.
Local offerings: In Menemsha and Chilmark, there are 3 great beaches, the most in any small part of the island. There is also a community center with 5 tennis courts and activities for the kids like sailing and soccer. Other attractions include fantastic fishing, kayaking and lots of trails in our town for a variety of fun walks to beachs and inland to gorgeous ponds and fields.
I grew up at the Beach Plum Inn next door but spent many years in this home with my parents who loved to entertain and then with friends afterwards, My grandparents founded the Beach Plum in 1951 and I am grateful to them for the richness of the childhood it gave me.
Jim Feiner purchased this house in 1964
This is a stunning place to be. The views over Menemsha, the easy walk to the beach and fish markets, the sound of the bell off the harbor.
Destination home. Walk to everything, Leave you keys in your car, crime is really not an issue here. See fish off the sound and run down to try to catch your dinner or fish off the docks and you might be very surprised!
My sister, the dog and I enjoyed a week at this out of the way home with all of the amenities of home. Located near the Beach Plum Inn, we spent a week relaxing and enjoying the view. Menemsha Beach is a five minute walk away, and all of the locals told us that Menemsha is their favorite place on the island--they were not wrong! We enjoyed fresh fish from Larson's, and loved the beach. I would also recommend Chilmark Chocolates and the West Tisbury farmer's market on Saturday morning. Pets are welcome, and when we were there, there was a band--free entertainment while we shopped and visited with the local purveyors. If you are looking for an out of the way location with shops, restuarants, and groceries nearby, you can not go wrong here. The owner, Jim, was helpful when needed and very friendly. Hoping we can come back soon!
When most people think Chilmark, the think beach. Menemsha, Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches are all very different and all very special. As a renter you may purchase a pass to the latter two, Menemsha is free. There are also great trails on many conservation properties owned by some of the non-profits like the Land Bank and Trustees. Other walks lead to views, and yes....more beaches. Kayaking is a great activity here and fishing from one raises the bar on the excitement. I am a kayak fisherman and always happy to guide someone on an adventure where even if you son't see fish you have fun. We have a lot of farms on our small island and the farmer's market is filled with interesting and healthy eating choices. It meets twice a week in West Tisbury, the next town over. Surprisingly we have great trails for running and mountain biking and the road biking is among the best anywhere except I would encourage early morning riding as our roads are a bit on the small side and can get crowded.
