Terrific stay in the Berkshires

I stayed with my husband, two children under 4 and another family with two three year olds this summer and it was a perfect place for us. There was plenty of room, the screen porch and yard were perfect for the kids (the backyard is fenced, but behind it there is a beautiful view of wild flowers and trees), the kitchen was well-equipped and made cooking at home easy and enjoyable, and the beds and linens were all very comfortable.
The house is located very close to Lenox and to several grocery stores. This made it easy to go to Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Co, and lots of great hikes. Lenox is also centrally located enough to explore other Berkshire towns such as Stockbridge, Great Barrington, and Williamstown.
The property was very clean and well-stocked. Lovely soaps and shampoos were provided to us as was laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies. The owners provided picnic supplies (great for Tanglewood!). The place is also decorated very well.
I cannot say enough how helpful the owner was. She was always accessible by phone or email and answered all my questions-- from where should I grocery shop, to giving me her personal list of fun things to do with kids and kid-friendly restaurants in the area. The house also had tons of guide books from best waterfalls to best restaurants. It made planning great excursions very easy.
I would definitely recommend this house to my friends. I am pretty particular about where I stay and was completely satisfied. The only thing I wished the house had, and really only one or two afternoons, was an airconditioner. We were in Lenox during a bit of a hot spell and it was a little warm in the afternoon. By the evening it was no longer warm and we were never hot at night.
I would definitely suggest Shakespeare and Co. (tons of great shows). We went to see three different shows while we were there and were never disappointed. The owner suggested a hike to Bash Bish Falls and we loved it. It was beautiful and an easy hike for kids--we did it from the New York entrance.

Owner's Response: As our guest mentions our home does not have air conditioning. Lenox is typically quite cool in the summer – the average temperature is about eighty degrees in July & August. We have ceiling fans in all three of our bedrooms the speed can be adjusted for your comfort. Also, we have freestanding fans for each of our rooms and all of our windows have full screens. Occasionally, we have a record high or low. The record high in the summer is about ninety-five, not ideal – we suggest you close the windows & shades to the sunny days and open them to the cool mountain nights. The record low in the summer is in the thirties. Should your visit be during a record low we have just installed a new heater, which will keep you toasty warm at night! More than likely you will be greeted with average temperatures and have warm days and cool nights.
As mentioned in earlier reviews our home does have stairs. Small children are welcome but should be supervised around and while using the stairs in our home. We frequently have children visitors and welcome families often. Our home is not right for every family. We want you to make the right selection for your vacation. Please feel free to call or e-mail us with any questions.
A visit to the Berkshires makes for a great vacation. The town of Lenox is the summer home of the Boston Symphony orchestra at Tanglewood. In the downtown area, one mile from our home, you will find many restaurants, shops, and art galleries. We are also within a short drive to other theatre venues, hiking & biking trails, and museums. Spas and golf courses are located in Lenox. We are nearby antique shopping and only an hour away from the famous Brimfield antique shows. The Berkshires have something for everyone. We would be delighted to give our guests some suggestions for vacation activities and tell you what we love about the area. Just ask! Most of the time we have books in our home that detail local activities, for example: walking & hiking trails, restaurant guides, & historical information. If you have a particular interest, please inquire we will do our best to provide any available information.
