About Tom & Julie Evans

Julie and Tom are originally from the Midwest. In 2002, Tom retired for health reasons and we traveled for 5 years seeking and trying to find the best Doctor to do surgery on his spine. We had sold our house and contents and first rented a small RV to see if Julie, (from the big city) liked Rv'ing. Our first trip was to U. of Penn. Hospital. What a trip, but she loved driving and living in it. Her friends were just flabbergasted! We then bought a little bigger RV, then a little larger RV and eventually a bus conversion. 75 feet overall length with our car being pulled behind it. It meant good sense for Tom's health as they ride like a dream. Julie took driving lessons and enjoyed driving the big rig down the highway. The Motor coach was actually 'Danica Patrick's' while driving Indy racing cars. In the process of our travels, we met a couple that invited us up to their personal RV site in Bigfork, Montana for a few days. It was quite a distance from Oregon where we were having our Motor coach remodeled & worked on. We had some time before we had to come back while waiting for parts. So we said, why not head up there? Once we got here, we were so impressed with the area that we stayed, left and came back once more. The couple that invited us up headed back home to Texas. Eventually on one of our last days here, we found the property on Lake Blaine for sale on a Sunday. We contacted our Realtor on Monday to make an offer. At that time, we learned someone else was bidding on it. We loved the feeling the property gave us and all of its' surroundings so much, we bid what they were asking. That was in the fall of 2006. We had to leave town right away to have the parts put on our motor coach and then went back to Las Vegas where we were living in a RV resort. That was where Tom had found the right surgeon. At that point, we had no idea what our plans for the property would be. We didn't even know we were so close to Glacier park. We returned in the Spring of 2007.

Tom & Julie Evans purchased this house in 2006

Why Tom & Julie Evans chose West Glacier

At that time, it had a 1926 barn on it and an old farm house. The setting was spectacular, but we realized it also needed a lot of work. Julie first got obsessed with the fact the lake view was blocked by low growth shrubs along the bank, so she went after it with a vengeance. (loping shears, hand saws, & various other tools in hand) I was overseeing the start of renovating the barn. By the time she got finished pruning away all the old growth from the lake, I had to hire a crew to come in with a grapple hook excavator and trailer to haul it all away. Then we tackled the old farm house. For practical purposes it should of been torn down, but instead, we did a lot of demolition and renovation. It was just dumb luck that the property was minutes from Glacier National Park, and centrally located to the tourist communities of Bigfork, Lakeside, Whitefish and Kalispell. Our vision became clear.... People would love to experience this fabulous area as much as had. Shortly after completing renovation on the house and rented it out for the 2008 summer season, we realized that we wanted to expand by building a log cabin. It was a long 3 year endurance test because of all the numerous permits required. NOW, we really have a resort! It has been described as a 'Piece of Heaven'

Amazing home & location!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this beautiful home for a "girls weekend/bachelorette party" for 12 women. The house is immaculate and wonderfully stocked with everything you need. The owners are nearby to help but not intrusive. Beds are so comfortable! The lake is nice and warm for swimming, even in June. We had a perfect time and Tom & Julie were great, even when our hen party got a little too loud. Thanks again!

The Shangri-La of the Glacier National Park area

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I very rarely return to any vacation property, but we were so enthralled with the beauty, tranquility, and warm hospitality of the Lake Blaine Mtn Resort that we could think of nothing else but returning to the cabin we'd visited in summer 2012. Our return trip was even better than the first...mostly because we had the opportunity to stay longer and spend more quality relaxation time at this property than on our first visit. This is your ideal vacation property if you enjoy fishing, kayaking, quiet relaxation, and viewing wildlife, all while retaining all the comforts of home (and more). Nestled at the foot of a mountain and immediately adjacent to a creek, field, and lake, the cabin is simply perfect. A unique blend of lodge and contemporary home, it is perfectly appointed for whatever your vacation up the fresh trout you caught in the creek on the property; watching the sunset over the adjacent tranquil field with grazing deer, soaring eagles, waddling turkeys, and acrobatic swallows; or, kayaking on the creek. Add this to the fact that it is such a short and easy drive to the western entrance of Glacier National Park, and there is really nothing you could enjoy doing that isn't easily accessible. If you tire of outdoor pursuits, a visit to the quaint town of White Fish offers galleries, a large variety of restaurants, and a ski resort (if you are there during the skiing season).

As with the first stay, Tom and Julie (the owners) were devoted to making our stay exceed our expectations, but we were hard pressed to find any wants or needs that weren't already provided. They are the perfect hosts...ready and willing to help in any way, but perfectly adept at allowing guests their privacy and the making you feel as if the property were your own private hideaway.

My only regret is that we can't vacation there every year, but I know the draw of the place will pull us back again in a year or two.

Owner's Response: Jen and Mike, Holy Cow! We don't even know what to say to that wonderful review. We always want our guests to enjoy themselves as much as you did. We're glad your second visit lived up to your expectations. It's so gratifying to know how much you enjoyed it. Look forward to picking up where we left off. Sincerely, Tom & Julie

I must say the we have stayed in many vacation homes but this one surpasses all!!! The home is beautiful. The property is scenic and very inviting. Tom and Julie are great hosts and gave us a lot of info about the area. The home is well equipped with all you need. We flew in from Ohio and was limited with what we could bring and to our surprise the home had everything we needed. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and it was a great time. Anyone planning a trip to this area, do yourself a favor and check out these properties. Thanks Tom and Julie for a memorable stay. WE WELL RETURN!!!!

Ask for "House Rules" BINDER before renting this property

  • 1 of 5

Owners not helpful with concerns we expressed about their extra charge for cleaning after my wife and family double cleaned the floors and counter tops. Their "House Rules" Binder is absurd. I would NOT recommend this property to anyone who wants to have a hassle free and relaxing week on the lake. The area is a great area to vacation in but find a place where the owners will treat you with respect.

Owner's Response: Please know this is not typical. Most all our feedback we receive is very positive. We are sorry that it was necessary to charge for the additional cleaning as addressed in previous communications. Our priority is to provide a very clean and fresh environment for all guests. Before anyone books a reservation we send out our rental agreement for their review. It clearly states all of our terms & conditions prior to guests signing of the rental agreement. Upon arrival, the owners give an orientation and are always available. Respectfully, Tom and Julie

Perfect Location, Perfect House to Enjoy Glacier!

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes things are just too good to be true, but not in the case of this house! The pictures and description were spot on and we couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. The location of the house was perfect - central to everything: Glacier National Park, Bigfork, Kalispell and Whitefish. The setting was gorgeous...Lake Blaine out your front patio and mountains all around. The house was fully equipped with everything we could possibly need. We enjoyed renting the kayaks and the pedal boat one day as well...beautiful way to start the morning! We were treated with many wildlife sightings too - an eagle, deer every day, and ducks.

If you're heading to the Flathead Valley, this is the THE place to stay!

What an amazing vacation rental!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Lake Blaine Mountain Resort last month for 4 nights and I can't recommend it highly enough!! The owners Tom and Julie met us on arrival and were very sweet to show us round the cabin. The cabin is well stocked (although a hairdryer would be a useful addition!)

The location is second to none and it's a great spot for nature lovers - we had 2 Bald Eagles sitting in the nearby tree so got some amazing photos. Glacier National Park is beautiful and the "Going to the sun Road" had only opened that day so it was cool to be one of the 1st people to travel on it this season. I would definitely stay there again when I visit the area again.

Thanks again to Tom and Julie x

Owner's Response: Angie, That was very nice of you. I am sorry about the hairdryer. We do have one in one of the bathrooms. We'll have to get another. Glad you got to see some of our resident Bald Eagles. Every week it seems someone notices a different species of wildlife. Just about as great as the Bald Eagles, the day before yesterday, we had 11 Golden Eagles flying above our property all day. They are known to have a wingspan of 6 - 7 ft. So great you traveled overseas to stay at our resort. We would love to have you back to see more of our wildlife habitat and explore the rest of our valley. Sincerely, Tom & Julie
