Located at the edge of historic Machiasport village, there are many interesting activities and adventures nearby and farther afield. A short drive down Machiasport peninsula leads you to spectacular Jasper Beach and hikes on the Point of Maine – and you can pick up lobsters on the way in Bucks Harbor. Just up the coast is the Bold Coast Trail with hikes on the dramatic rockbound bluffs. Other nearby excursions include boat trips to view puffins on Machias Seal Island, Campobello Island in Canada with FDR’s summer home, the beautiful sand beach at Roque Bluffs, Schoodic Peninsula in Gouldsboro, the Bartlett Winery Estate for wine tasting, historic Burnham Tavern in Machias and the Ruggles House in Columbia Falls, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec and quaint Eastport. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are a scenic 1 1/2 hour drive away. Bicycling, golfing and fishing are possibilities. And in back of the cottage there's great bird-watching and kayaking and canoeing on the bay!
