The Yellow House is a thoughtfully renovated 1850’s salt box house quietly situated on the southern shore of Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula - recently voted THE BEST COASTAL DESTINATION IN THE WORLD by National Geographic Traveler Magazine. Although it feels a world away, it is just 45 minutes from St John's airport and has wireless high speed internet.
The house is in the settlement of Tors Cove (population 325 when everyone is at home) and has stunning views of the ocean and rocky shoreline. It is comfortably furnished for up to four people - either two individuals or two couples or one couple with a child or another adult. The bright blue front door opens directly on to the East Coast Hiking Trail – one of Newfoundland’s many hidden gems.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms - a master bedroom with queen size bed and ocean views and a second bedroom with double bed and views over the settlement. There is a full bathroom upstairs including shower. Downstairs there is a spacious and comfortable sitting room including a secluded den with comfortable seating for watching wide screen cable TV and DVD. The sitting room opens out on to a deck with views over the ocean and cove. The kitchen is amazingly well equipped with every appliance you could imagine neatly stowed in a pantry. (If you don't want to cook, St John's is stuffed with excellent cafes, bars and restaurants.) There is a dining area to one side of the kitchen and a downstairs powder room.
The house is electrically heated and has a wood stove with wood provided for you. In warm weather, you can sit on the deck on the outdoor furniture and watch sea birds and fishermen through the telescope.
