This cedar shake cottage is located in the Historic District of Old Frontenac. You can’t help but relax as you enter this historic village that remains as cozy and quaint today as it was 150 years ago. Walk or bike through this beautiful setting and you will enjoy scenic views of Lake Pepin, historic homes and park like yards. The cottage itself features hardwood floors, custom maple trim work and a floor to ceiling field stone fireplace. It has found the perfect balance of modern convenience nestled against a historic back drop.
We have been in the rental business for five years and enjoy sharing this beautiful area with others.
Chuck Rusch purchased this cottage in 1989
Both my wife and I grew up in south eastern Minnesota and where very familiar with the area. When the time was right to purchase a vacation property we only looked in one area. The cottage is located in the Historic District of Old Frontenac. Nestled amongst the river bluffs you can’t help but relax as you enter this historic village that remains as cozy and quaint today as it was 150 years ago. Walk or bike through this beautiful setting and you will enjoy scenic views of Lake Pepin, historic homes and park like yards.
This well-stocked cottage is a real gem!
Our family of 6 adults decided to gather here for a weekend-long Christmas celebration. We found the clean, comfortable space perfect for relaxing, reading, preparing all our meals, sitting by the fire, playing games, etc.
Chuck was easy to work with and quick to answer questions and make recommendations leading up to our stay.
As for area attractions, we'd highly recommend a trip to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha...
Very cute and comfortable rental. We had everything we needed, including plenty of fresh linens and towels. Nice location in Old Frontenac, easy access to the river and hiking trails. Now we just need to plan a trip in the summer to enjoy warmer weather!
I along with two of my great college gal friends stayed here for two nights. For some reason we almost missed this place and would recommend that a key work 'Frontenac' be added to the search terms. The cabin was beautifully decorated. Very up to date kitchen with appliances, dishes and all the cooking utensils one could imagine. We used the indoor fireplace but not the outdoor fire pit. The beds were good and linens very nice. Old Frontenac village is very easy to walk around, quiet and don't miss the old cemetery. There is a big open field if a family wants to play a little soccer or kick ball. There is a public landing just 4 blocks away. Don't miss Frontenac State Park for a great hike. We did not eat puy but in Red Wing but we know that the restaurants at the St. James Hotel are great. The yard needs a bit of fence repair but not a big deal as most likely there was recent wind damage. All in all a great find and we will return again.
If you are looking for a nice quiet place to stay with access to the Mississippi River and golfing with 15 minutes each way, this is the place for you. We had an excellent stay for 4 golfers. This is a great location for Spring, Summer or Fall if you are looking to enjoy the outdoors and spend some time on the water. Bring your golf clubs and a boat and you will not be disappointed. Communication with the owner is easy and I would recommend this location to anyone.
My small group was looking for a nice, cozy location for us to end our year on a retreat. Our main searching criteria was a location with many rooms, multiple bathrooms and a full kitchen. The cottage fit the bill perfectly! The three bedrooms were just the right amount for our group, offering sleeping options and personal space for our group. The deck and outdoor grill made for a pleasant evening of laughter and reminiscing of that season's fun and events. Having a full kitchen was perfect for our budget conscious group allowing us many options to prepare our own meals. The location was also ideal as the Red Wing area offered us many options in shopping, hiking, and dining. Overall, it was a delightful weekend that the whole group enjoyed greatly! We hope to return again in future small group seasons.
Although I had a bit of a concern because of previous reviews mentioning the beds, and they were perhaps not the most comfortable upstairs; after all is said and done, we hope to visit again. We rented for our adult family of eight and it was wonderful. The cabin is beautiful, everything we needed for the weekend. Having coffee in the sunroom was the best! Cross country skiing nearby at Frontenac State Park and Cannon Valley Trail, Lake Pepin within walking distance – lots of ice fishing. Cabin is located in a pretty little neighborhood. We stopped for the ‘all you can eat’ first fry at a little diner in town before we got to the cabin, and the food was great. I’m so hoping to visit during another season as well. Thank you!
A perfect spot to meet up with family from Northfield and LaCrosse. Excellent location with golf, state park, and Mississippi River all very close. Old Frontenac is a peaceful town for walking with some beautiful old estates to admire. Enjoyed the field right across from the cottage for sports activities and really enjoyed taking a dip in the Mississippi which is only a short walk away. The cottage is upgraded in a pleasant decor and has all that one needs to be comfortable. A local neighbor recommended the Harbor View Cafe in Pepin and it was delicious. Apparently there can be long lines for dinner, but we got served right away for lunch. We would strongly recommend this place for a peaceful get away with fun nearby.
The historic district of Old Frontenac is located on Lake Pepin and is nestled in the bluffs of south eastern Minnesota. This area features golf, boating, antiquing, hiking and bird watching in the spring and summer and is nationally recognized as one of the best places in America to view fall colors. Winter provides both downhill and cross country skiing as well as snowshoeing and snowmobiling in Frontenac State Park, which is located adjacent to the district. There are numerous art festivals throughout the year and both fine and casual dining are only minutes away.
Golf: This area features 144 holes of golf within 20 minutes drive including the famous Jewel Golf Course designed by Hale Irwin.
