What a fabulous retreat from the cold and snow we would have been experiencing had we stayed up north! Instead of shoveling snow, we spent almost every evening watching the sun set while enjoying the nice hot spa. (It was a little cool for me to use the heated pool, although if we'd had kids with us, I'm sure they would have loved it!) This is a home that we could live in year round - the nicest vacation rental that we've come across, so far. Although we didn't need all the space (there are four bedrooms and three bathrooms), we very much enjoyed the large TV, cushy sofas, and good-sized master bedroom with attached bathroom. There were plenty of towels, including beach towels, and a nice washer and dryer. The house and the neighborhood seemed very pet friendly. There were folks out in the neighborhood walking their dogs, riding their bikes, and taking their boat out in the canal. There were a couple "resident" pelicans that we watched fishing in the canal most days. It didn't take us long to find several good restaurants in Palmetto (Riverhouse Reef and Grill for a special meal; Kostas or Popi's for breakfast or casual family dining) and Bradenton and beyond - plenty of places to sit outside and enjoy a nice meal. There's a good-sized outlet mall a few miles away, and plenty of "Florida" shopping in neighboring cities. We drove over to the gulf beaches a couple times and visited several Farmer's Markets (we liked Sarasota's) and Flea Markets (Red Barn in Bradenton). We loved visiting the Ringling Museums (especially the Circus Museums). We even spent a day at Busch Gardens! Lots of fun things to do in the area; you do need a car to take in all the possibilities.
