VERY WELL CENTERED IN THE VILLAGE......WITH A SMALL GARDEN...!!!
Everything that the other reviews from September is so true! It was a fabulous week and we loved coming home to "our" garden and cottage after exploring different villages each day. We really felt like locals and Kristine and Terry were great to deal with. Really miss our daily wine/cheese/olives in the garden and early morning trips down the cobblestone street to the baker.
My wife and I spent a week in Lourmarin in this truly charming and tastefully decorated cottage. The location is right in the village and very close and easily walkable to several delightful cafes, restaurants and a boulangerie. We used Lourmarin as a base, exploring and having lunch in different villages in the Luberon each day and returning to Lourmarin for wine at one of the cafes (Gaby's was our favorite) and dinner at one of the many walkable (from the cottage) local restaurants. Kristine kindly provided us, before our stay, a very detailed list of restaurants in the Luberon villages and throughout Provence as well. She also included excellent recommendations and comments so we could make our reservations well in advance of our visit ,as some of the restaurants (especially local favorites in the Luberon villages) can be difficult to book. In addition, there was a book of recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants put together by Kristine in the cottage and reference travel guides about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage (and yes, the bed is extremely comfortable). Our travels around the Luberon each day were truly magical and we would recommend Lourmarin as the perfect base for exploring the area. The extra effort and guidance kindly extended by Kristine made our trip perfect. We would love to return to Maison Amelie and look forward to doing so in the near future!
My husband and I rented this lovely cottage for a week in Sept 2014. It was perfect! Everything you could want for was supplied for a very comfortable stay....the cottage very authentic to the surroundings but modern conveniences thoughtfully provided. The king bed is so comfortable, best sleep we had on our travels. The cottage has a private courtyard out front, perfect for that late afternoon glass of wine. You can tell the owners take great pride in their home and it's presentation when you first arrive is immaculate and has many sweet touches. Kristine could not have been more helpful and attentive, had many suggestions and recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants. Always available but never intrusive. As for the village, it is charming. You are steps always from the bakery, just a few steps more and you reach the square which has several restaurants, interesting stores, and a small grocery. We tried Cafe Gaby (good food, friendly service, wonderful for enjoying an apertif and watching the world go by), also Pizza Nonni right across from the cottage. Again, very friendly establishment and wonderful food. The tiramisu was sooo good you will feel guilty for days! For things to do, the Friday Lourmarin market was so much fun, good variety of tasty products. We didn't eat many dinners out but made many impromptu dinners from the spoils from our market visits! Lourmarin also has a very interesting chateau. Further afield are many interesting villages to explore....our personal favorites were Rouissillon (don't miss the ochre trail) and Cucuron (some wonderful viewpoints to climb up to, and have lunch at L'Etage, the meal was delicious and the setting of so beautiful! You will not regret staying in this wonderful cottage, in such a beautiful location, THANK YOU Kristine and Thierry for sharing your home! Judy and Tom
My husband and I are home from our 3 week trip to France including one week in this charming, romantic, well-appointed (the bed is very comfy!), well-equipped tiny cottage with a Provençal little garden outside the front door. Kristine, who speaks prefect English, is a terrific host and provides books and suggestions about the region. This authentic cottage is right in the village of Lourmarin-my favorite of all the towns we explored. Don't miss Isle-sur-la-Sorge on Sunday for Market Day, the Roman Arena and History Museum in Arles and the perched villages of Gordes, Bonnieux, Menerbes and Roussillon--all within an hours drive. We would highly recommend staying in this charming cottage in this enchanting village!
My family stayed for two weeks this summer and had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We have two small children (ages 7 and 4). Kristine was very helpful throughout the booking process all the way through departure. The cottage has one king size bed and one fold out couch both of which are very comfortable. The house is professionally decorated and every thing you could possibly need is at your fingertips. I must also say that it was very nice to have air conditioning in the summer as most homes in Provence do not have A/C. Kristine's husband met us when we arrived and showed us around the home and made sure we were comfortable. One of the best features of the cottage is its location in the heart of Lourmarin. We were literally 100 yards from the village bakery and 150 yards from all of the cafes. We would start our morning every day by picking up our warm croissants then sitting in the cafes and people watching while we had our espresso and planned our adventure for the day. After visiting over a dozen villages and in the Luberon area of Provence, all of which were beautiful, we can honestly say that Lourmarin was by far our favorite. Incidentally, it is the village where Peter Mayle (author of A Year In Provence and Provence A to Z) lives. Kristine's cottage is the perfect 'base camp' from which to explore Provence. The cozy courtyard is a wonderful place to enjoy a lunch or a glass of wine at the end of the day. Everything in Lourmarin is within easy walking distance from the cottage, including well over a dozen restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. One of the best restaurants, Pizzeria Nonni, is directly across the street. Also, I personally think that Lourmarin's Friday market is the best market we went to. It was easily navigable even in the busiest part of the summer holiday season. Kristine had tons of information in the cottage about the surrounding area including many personal recommendations for restaurants in Lourmarin and just about every village within an hour of the cottage. Kristine's cottage is perfect for couples or families with small children. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a true Provencal experience.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our weeks stay at Maison Amelie. It was professionaly decorated, cozy and romantic. We had chose this cottage for the private garden and we were so glad we did. The garden was beautiful with the smells of fresh lavender. It was a perfect spot to read in the sun and enjoy a glass of wine. Very clean and well kept, everything we needed. We were very thankful for Kristine's recommendations in the area and her perfect english. Most beautiful place we have stayed, we hope to return someday.
Flea Markets, Farmers markets, music Festival at the chateau and church, lavender festival, cooking classes.
