Afton Cottage is tucked in the woods and completely private. The design was inspired by a Japanese farm house.

The kitchen is fully equipped. You will find Calphalon cookware and Sabatier knives.
The cottage is located 20 miles west of Charlottesville, home of the University of Virginia and Monticello. It is 25 minutes from Wintergreen, which offers golf, and skiing.
Staunton, which is renowned for its Victorian architecture, is 25 minutes west. In Staunton you will find The Museum of American Frontier Culture, the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, and the Blackfriar's Playhouse, in addition to excellent restaurants and numerous other cultural and sightseeing opportunities.
The Shenandoah National Park and the Appalachian Trail are only 15 minutes away as are 3 breweries and 10, or more, wineries. Numerous restaurants, offering everything from fine dining to good old country fare, are within 15 minutes.
Well behaved pets are always welcome. Please, no dogs under 1 year.

Shenandoah National Park: The park is celebrating it's 75th anniversary in 2011. Afton Cottage is less than 15 minutes from the park entrance. The perfect place to stay when visiting the Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Skyline Drive.
Golf: Afton Cottage is near 3 excellent golf courses. Wintergreen offers a course on the mountain and a course in the valley at Stoney Creek. Old Trail Golf course, the newest. is just 8 miles away. Special packages are available at each.
We are an empty nester couple in our mid 60s. Dick is a retired Realtor after 42 years. Veegie is the Branch Office Administrator for a stock brokerage firm in Charlottesville.
We have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
We moved to Batesville Rd in 1994.
We built Afton Cottage in 1996 as a rental unit. In October 2007 we decided to market it as a vacation home on line through VRBO. Since that time, we have had over 200 reservations by wonderful folks, many of whom have returned multiple times.
The great appeal of Afton Cottage is its location. It is located in a beautiful area and it is convenient to Charlottesville, Monticello, Staunton, & Wintergreen.
Close proximity to the Shenandoah National Park, Appalachian Trail and 10+ wineries and 3 breweries make it an ideal home-away-from-home for hikers,bikers, sightseers and wine and craft beer afficianados.
The privacy and tranquility afforded by the cottage make it a wonderful getaway for those seeking a place to merely relax and unwind. It is a favorite of writers.
Afton Cottage is in a rural area 20 miles west of Charlottesville. The area is served by good paved roads which pass farms, fields and woods.
