Willow: small town (large area) located in the Susitna Valley & north of Anchorage. Known for history of gold mining (Hatcher Pass) and sport fishing (Willow is home to many rivers). Dotted with many lakes & surrounded by the Talkeetna Mountains (Chugach Range-east & south) & the Alaska Range (north) . Willow has beautiful scenery & is centrally located to many popular tour destinations. Hatcher Pass has historic gold mine sites and many hiking trails into the mountains. Willow Fishhook Rd (Hatcher Pass Rd) is a climbing mountain pass road with view of the Alaska Range (Denali, Hunter, Foraker) and gateway to the mountain pass known as Hatcher Pass. Wildlife in this area is many faceted: brown & black bear, moose, lynx, wolf, coyote, fox, eagles, great horned owl, plus many other bird species & smaller mammal species. Home of world famous 'Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.'
Other Activities: Viewing Northern Lights, Wildlife & Scenic Photo Ops, Official Home of Iditarod Re-Start just 6 miles from the rental on Willow Lake. Palmer has the Alaska State Fair each year in late Augustabout an hour's drive from the rental.
Golf: You can golf in Wasilla at Settlers Bay.
Ski: The nearest Ski Resorts are Hilltop Ski in Anchorage and
Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood. Some people ski and snowboard
in Hatcher Pass, but there are no facilities there.
