Juliet bought the house in 2005. She and her husband are university professors in the Boston area. With friends and children they love the house away from the city. In the fall of 2012 a major renovation of the house went forward, changing what had been a 1.5 storey cape to this much larger home. The purpose was to add a study for Juliet, a garage, and room for guests and visiting colleagues. The decks off the house make it a splendid retreat in any season of the year, outdoor views of the ocean and fresh air may be easily gained from all levels of the home. We only rent in the summer, minimum stay for a month. The private yard is perfect for play or rest. While the lapping ocean waves can be heard in the distance, the house is a bit quieter than those directly on the waterfront, as it is across the street, up an incline. It is also an open but flexible floor plan design, which feels cozy for a small group, but is roomy enough for 10 people, each of whom can retreat to their own section of the house when they want to. Our architects did a marvelous job with the renovation: see http://www.rogerhoit.com/seaside_inspiration.html

A commuter boat or easy drive takes us to the city, but we feel as if we are far away in Maine or on the Cape while we're there. Great people in Hull: a mixed and festive community. The natural amenities are extraordinary and Hull will never be overbuilt. Simply a beautiful, restful place, closer to the city. Our neighborhood is the tops!

Commuter boat to the city weekdays all year 'round; 240 degrees of water views; 360 degrees of sun in the house and yard. A great reverse commute from the city, as well as a commute to the city. No flood worries, no wind worries, but we see all the large waves from the fall nor'easters. Beautiful every time of year, low key and fun. We relax there.

A MOST PERFECT HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
The days in the house were wonderful! It is a perfect place for holidays. One has an unspoilt view over the sea as well as on the skyline of Boston, and this is a luxury that is not offered everywhere in Hull. You can admire the sunsets and enjoy long walks on the beach. You may meditate on the ideas sailors had about the horizon of the sea and the end of the world in former times or go for a run. But you might as well stay in the house or the garden because the house is perfectly equipped – even with a piano. There is lots of space for relaxing, working or entertainment. And if you are a passionate cook you will love the kitchen because one can find everything one is used to in ones own home and more. The supermarkets nearby offer a variety of good food and fresh fish. Last but not least it is worth mentioning that one does sleep very well in this house.

LOVELY HOME, GREAT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
This recently renovated home was perfect for our five-person group, and it lived up to its description and photos in the online listing. The house was clean, roomy and comfortably furnished. The open layout on the first floor made the the kitchen, dining room and living area seem spacious. The bedrooms are outfitted with quality mattresses and bedding, and the master bathroom is new and inviting. We took advantage of the third floor deck to watch the beautiful sunsets. The outside shower is a plus for rinsing off sand before entering the house. As for the surrounding area, we found plenty of activities to occupy us during our week-long stay (including two trips on the commuter ferry to Boston, visits to Nantasket Beach, biking, etc.). The owner was responsive to our inquiries, and It was also helpful to have a property manager nearby to greet us on our arrival and answer our questions.

MARVELLOUS HOUSE WITH GREAT VIEW

  • 5 of 5
This is the perfect place for vacation. We had the vacation of our dreams!
The location is magnificent, easily accesible and close to all the nicest beaches of the area. The house itself is recenlty renovated and very thoughtfuly designed. The view over the ocean is unobstructed from every room of the house and of course from the main terrace and the balconies -not to mention the room on the top of the house which has the greatest view and which is the best place to relax or to concentrate. It is very spacious (it can easily host 2 families), comfortable and fully equipped. Also, the kids appreciated especially the big back garden.
The owner was a very kind person and the manager, who lives just down the street, could come immediately whenever it was needed (that was really convenient). It also has to be said that the house was very clean - irreproachably clean.
The place deserves to be fully starred. I would highly recommend it to a friend.

PERFECT LOCATION. FANTASTIC HOUSE.

  • 5 of 5
We greatly enjoyed our stay in the house and the owners were very nice and dedicated. One of our very best experiences in the US over the last ten years. Stayed twice in this house, before and after it was renovated and expanded.
The house is beautifully designed and now has one of the best views onto the ocean in Hull. A truly amazing view. It is flooded with light and has great decks.
Very clean, perfectly equipped, luxurious. Great neighborhood, very quiet.
Really a great location and a great place to stay for vacation/work.

RELAXING FAMILY VACATION IN HULL

  • 3 of 5
This home met the needs for the 6 of us- my husband, myself, our two young children, and my inlaws. The views from the home are spectacular and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck both morning and evening. The space was adequate but the upstairs was a bit tight with its low ceilings. My husband and I both bonked our heads multiple times! Parking shouldn't have been a problem but the construction trucks from across the street were constantly getting in our way and two different times we had police knocking on the door to move our, legally parked, cars. But this shouldn't continue for long and isn't the fault of the homeowner. The biggest issue we had with the house was the lack of cleanlines. We each noticed and the day we moved in, I was on my hands and knees cleaning piles of dirt/dust in different rooms and also wiping down furniture including the kitchen table. My father in law moved a table slightly in the den and found that no one had swept/cleaned under this in ages. We also felt that a dog and/or cat had lived on premises as my husband and mother in law who are very allergic were having bad allergies just in the house. Due to the lack of cleanliness, this was obviously a bigger problem. This really made me unhappy and thus I took off two stars. But everything else was pretty much as we expected. Nantasket beach is perfect for children and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Owner's Response: First let me stress that this renter was in our OLD home, in the summer of 2012, and afterwards, in the fall of 2012 we fully renovated to build what is essentially a new home. We have two other reviews from 2013 about the new situation.

Here is our response, though:

Thanks very much for your review, we really appreciate it and are very sorry for the difficulties. We have addressed them. First we must especially apologize for the lack of cleanliness. Our manager had always found us good people in the past, and we had never had a complaint until now. In response, we have hired a new manager and new, more professional cleaning crew. The manager is a custom builder who renovated the house for us ths fall, so he knows it inside and out. He lives down the street and cares abut the house, in particular, keeping it absolutely clean. He will use a crew who will be at guests' disposal if things are not up to snuff. The renovations, completed at the end of 2012, yield a completely new home which is doubled in size, freshly painted, varnished and utterly clean. No more head banging, as we have gone from 1.5 storeys to 4 storeys with a garage, 8 foot ceilings everywhere, 12 foot in the upstairs studio, which is 14 x 16 feet. On the second floor, high ceilings, a third bedroom, and two more full baths. Balconies off the front of the house on the second floor. From the 3rd floor enter a spectacular 4th floor roof deck with over 220 degrees of views. Downstairs a new terrace and decking, kitchen floor, basement and garage and driveway. Square footage of the home has been doubled, 700 square feet of deck are added, and the whole front of the house opened up to take advantage of the great views. Everything is spotless.
With these changes we hope to get back to 5 stars.

Hull is a beach town on a peninsula in Boston Harbor (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpnKx_Dl08I). It is part of the south shore of Boston, neighboring communities include Cohasset and Hingham. But Hull is distinguished by having a beautiful white sand beach of over a mile, water everywhere, a relaxed and festive atmosphere with delicious and affordable restaurants and fish shops, and it is also commutable to Boston by MBTA commuter boat.

You feel as if you are away from it all down in Hull, but you are right near the city. Allerton Hill, where this house is located, is perhaps the best neighborhood in Hull, with spectactular views of the Harbor Islands and a quiet, green feel.
