Camp Wood cabin at Big Bear Lake is just what you need on your next vacation. We are located across the street from the lake, and only 1.5 miles from town. Everyone loves our outdoor fireplace in the summer and our pot belly stove in the winter. Our 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms will accommodate up to 10 people. Big Bear Lake is situated in the mountains north-east of San Bernardino, CA at an elevation of 7000 ft. The man-made lake has an east-west length of approximately 7 miles and is 2.5 miles at its widest measurement, though the lake's width mostly averages a little more than 1 mile. Summer temperatures average a high of 81°F and a low of 47°F. Our winter temperatures range from 47°F to 21°F. The Big Bear Lake region is unique among populated areas in Southern California in that, because of the elevation, it normally receives significant winter snow. Snowfall, as measured at lake level, averages 61.8 inches each year (although upwards of 100 inches can accumulate on the forested ridges bordering the lake above 8,000 feet). In February 1990, 59.5 inches of snow were recorded. The most snow in 24 hours was 27.0 inches (69 cm) on March 27, 1991. Snow has fallen in every month except July and August. We visited Camp Wood during Thanksgiving week 2009 and we had a wonderful experience. My family and I would like to thank you so much for the great time we had in this beautiful home. We really enjoyed our time there and the view and location was icing on the cake!!!!!!!The house was truly warm inside due to the potbelly stove!!!Kept us warm all through the nigh!!We had plenty of games to play with and the cooking during Thanksgiving was like cooking at home!The house was fully stocked with kitchen essentials.
The lake was a couple of yards away!We took walks around the lake and ran into a near by park. Next time we will bring our fishing poles!!!Everything is a mile away!!!!Starbucks and local stores!!!Our daughter who is two had a great time exploring the cabin and the outdoors!We highly recommend this cabin to everyone.We are definitely going back soon early 2010!

We rented this home over the 4th of July. Could not ask for a better summer location. Big grass front yard where our kids played, short walk to lake where we were able to dock our boat on their private dock. We were with some friends and the cabin was plenty big for two families. Interior was decorated like a Big Bear cabin should be hardwood floors, lots of couches, and great view of the lake from the living room. We spent most of our time on the outside patio which has a great lake view and BBQ. Nothing better than sitting outside having a drink with friends overlooking the lake. For the 4th we waited for it go get dark then walked to the lake and watched a great show over the lake. Anyone wanting a great summer location in nice quiet area with great access to the lake and a very comfortable home should look at this one. Will definitely be back next year in fact if I can work it out may come back in August this year.

Wonderful View!!

My husband, son and I took a quick getaway to Big Bear for the weekend. This house had the most amazing lake views. The patio is awesome! It is a great place to entertain as well. There were 4 beds we didn't even touch - so plenty of space for a large group. You can walk across the street and drop in your fishing line. We were lucky that Saturday was free fishing day, so no license required. You are really close to town, the water park, Boulder Bay and much more. We typically stay in homes versus hotels, and while this house didn't have the most up-to-date interior, the beds were comfy and we had everything we needed. We will definitely return to the Woods home for future weekends in the mountains!

Just a quick note to Bill which you can delete before posting my review: I'm not sure if you are aware but the jets in the big tub did not work for us. Also, you may want to remove the feature of using the outdoor fire place. It is currently restricted to have any open fires in Big Bear.

Great Ski Weekend

We recently stayed at CampWood for the weekend. We have rented before in Big Bear and sometimes you never know what you will get. When we got there we were happy to find it was a place you could call home. Very cozy, clean, well maintained just a great place to spend a cold winter day with friends. The view of the partial ice covered lake was great. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us. The cabin was stocked with lots of games so we played games with the kids all night. We kept a fire going along with the furnace and even as cold as it was outside it was perfect inside. This looks like a great location for the summer with the outdoor fireplace and BBQ. We plan to spend a week or weekend here this summer. 5 star all the way.

We really enjoyed our stay at this lakeside cabin over Spring Break 2010. It has a rustic feel but many modern amenities. It's also very roomy with great views all around. If you're travelling with kids it's very nice as there are several gathering areas: the spacious living area, the kitchen and dining rooms, the large upstairs bedrooms. We also enjoyed sitting around the outdoor fireplace on the warmer evenings. We found the location perfect for our needs: fishing and paddling right out the front door, and very close to the village shops & restaurants and the ski areas. We highly recommend Camp Wood and would love to come back again.
