Freeport is such an awesome destination, that after a few visits, we moved here! It's laid-back, small-town America; the people are genuine, friendly and helpful to visitors. You'll enjoy everything Freeport has to offer including shops, restaurants, parks, galleries, harbor, working farm, and the unique attractions like 'the Desert of Maine'. But there are hundreds of other options up and down the coast, some within 15 minutes, all within a day's drive. Take an easy hike up nearby Bradbury Mt. Hop a ferry to explore one of Maine's many islands. Visit Pemaquid Lighthouse or Fort Popham. Learn to kayak or fly-fish through L.L.Bean. Go antiquing. Visit the Maine Wildlife Park to see a moose! Take in a show at Maine State Music Theatre, or Andrew Wyeth's paintings at the Farnsworth Museum. Day-trip up to Camden or Acadia - both definitely worth a visit. Sail on a windjammer! Haul lobsters! Take photos! Find souvenirs. And enjoy lots of 'lobsta' and blueberries Maine is famous for!

Further details for this vacation house rental in Freeport, Maine

What's special about our property: The beauty of our rental is that you can be perfectly content to relax here at the house without going anywhere else! You're sure to see great blue herons, snowy egrets, cormorants, and many kinds of ducks in our cove. Watch seagulls crack open clam shells by dropping them on the rock ledges. A pair of osprey that nest nearby often stop by our cove to fish. If you're lucky you might see a raccoon, porcupine, skunk, fox, coyote or deer - all of which have wandered through our yard. Our roads are ideal for jogging, cycling, roller-blading or just plain strolling. A moose crossed the road just down the street from us last summer. That was a delightful surprise, but I can't promise you'll see one during your stay! At night, our skies are phenomenal for star-gazing. Though Freeport is known for it's shopping, non-shoppers will have no trouble enjoying themselves. Did I mention golf yet?! There's a reason the state motto is 'the way life should be'!

If you want to be on the go . . .: Or you might choose to be on the go - the number of things to do in our area is endless! We've already mentioned attractions to our North; to our South, check out the quaint & walkable Old Port section of Portland, or take a harbor cruise. Cape Elizabeth, Kennebunkport, and Ogunquit are all nice venues to spend a day. Head inland to find lakes, mountains, and charming country fairs. We will gladly share our favorite spots to visit and where the locals go to dine! Let us know in advance if you have a particular interest.

Other Activities: Awesome Free concerts in town Saturday evening! Berry picking; country fairs; beach; state park; jogging, bird-watching & shopping!!

Lobster-Fest

Review Submitted: September 12, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My husband & our friends come to Maine every fall to eat lobsters. We have outdoor cooking equipment, which my husband uses to cook 4-6 lobsters at a time. (We bought live lobsters at the Harraseeket Lunch & Lobster in South Freeport, which is worth a visit for a casual lunch, even if you don't cook your own lobster. They don't serve beer or wine, but do allow you to bring your own adult beverages.)
This rental property was perfect for our needs. The deck & yard are spacious with lots of seating & the backyard is level & private, lots of trees & birds (We had an osprey land in a branch above us with a flounder in its talons!) The dock & the hammock are great for reading in the sun or shade. The house is immaculate, spacious & quiet. Three couples, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms-everyone was happy! We've stayed in many rental properties, but Cove House is the best-equipped place we've ever visited. We lacked for nothing! The owners are very helpful, providing stacks of visitor information regarding shopping, tourism, restaurants, etc.
We didn't eat at any local restaurants, but understand there are several excellent choices in Freeport. We visited the Maine Wildlife Park, & did see the moose, but would recommend a visit only if you have children.
We would highly recommend this property!

You'll be happy you stayed here!

RTOS Woodstock, NY
Review Submitted: July 30, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
My husband and I just spent a week in this house with our 2 young kids. If you are looking for something spacious, comfortable, sparkling clean and very well-stocked, this house will be a great choice. The owners are very nice and helpful and the house had everything we needed. The kids loved going down to the dock to check on the tide, the canoe was fun when the tide was high, and even on the rainy days we were able to relax and enjoy some "inside time." There were ample towels, linens and paper goods. If you are looking for a rental in this area of Maine, without hesitation, I would recommend staying here.
