About The Owner

My family came to Blowing Rock in the early sixties and found this magnificent 5 acre mountaintop a glorious place to spend the summers and escape the summer heat of the city. I always felt it was too special to not share, so a few years ago, we renovated the three story lodge, adding a new kitchen to the upper two level living area. The kitchen boasts a Viking range, tile countertops and an onyx bar. The sitting area of the kitchen has a bank of windows to enjoy the view. Maple floors were added along with cherry walls in the living room which has soaring heights and huge picture windows. The treetop master suite with bath offers incredible breezes and the feeling you can almost touch the moon and the stars and then awaken to a breathtaking sunrise. The mid level private suite offers bath

and vestibule The granite fireplace is original using granite from Grandfather Mountain. CloudForest has always been an incredibly special place to enjoy the most breathtaking views, hike the trails and enjoy privacy and peace in an enchanting setting. As a licensed North Carolina Real Estate agent, I have had an opportunity to extensively explore the High Country and am always reminded that there is nothing quite like CloudForest! It is a delight to be able to share this special spot - guests always find such awe in the experience.

Thanks to Charlotte's very clear directions, getting to CloudForest from the village of Blowing Rock was quite easy. As we topped the stairs to our 2nd floor vacation retreat,we could see the extraordinary view of the mountains from the covered deck. The property was clean and well maintained and as described in the listing. The eclectic decor was fascinating and included a beautiful lighted stained-glass cabinet as well as other "surprises" that you do not notice at first. During the week we've been at CloudForest the day-time highs have ranged from the upper 50's to the lower 80's. We've experienced sunny days, rainy days and overcast days--we even had a wind advisory one morning. This means that we had the opportunity to enjoy the mountain view in a variety of conditions--all views were exquisite! On clear nights we could see the lights of Charlotte. Sunrise was always spectacular. We could also see the sunset through the trees at the back of the lodge. We were visited by a deer and a rabbit, both looking for breakfast. We also enjoyed the huge gas fireplace on cool days. We would recommend the Six Pence Pub, Storie Street Grille and The Village Cafe on Main Street and the Foggy Rock Cafe and Pub on Hwy 321. We do not recommend the Mi Carreta Grill on Hwy 321. We, too, enjoyed the Harris Teeter classic trail mix, but our very favorite foods were the rotisserie chicken salad and pimento cheese at Ingles. Both Harris Teeter (Hwy 321) and Ingles (Hwy 105) are located in nearby Boone and are well worth the short trip. The kitchen was fully equipped and the basics, including paper towels, were provided. Toiletries were also provided in the bathrooms. It was a pleasure to work with Charlotte. She even came up to greet us when we arrived and had beautiful pink and purple flowers in a planter on the deck to welcome us. We would recommend this property to adults who are looking for a place to relax that has an incredible mountain view. BTW-->be sure to take a walk around Bass Lake. If you look through the basket with all of the brochures, before you make your plans, notice whether or not what you are reading is current.

The only thing wrong was the weather - cloudy, foggy. Charlotte's place is absolutely fantastic. Superb decor, accommodations and all facilities. Complimentary access to Westglow Spa an unbelievable bonus. Her directions are right on. You could not do any better than to stay at Cloudforest Lodge - and I have been in the hospitality ownership/management for 27 years!!

My husband and I and a good friend booked Cloudforest for a week. Everything was as advertised and pictures were accurate.. We had to cut our week short to come home for a funeral. Charlotte was very kind and changed us over to a nightly rate and gave us a generous refund. We hope some day to go back. Sitting out on the deck with coffee in the morning was a wonderful treat.

A Walk In The Clouds

Submitted: September 2, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
Going to the Blue Ridge Mountains was on my bucket list. Staying at Cloudforest is definitely AAAA+. It is located near the highest point on the Appalachian trail. The listing accurately describes the location. The photos of the place is the reason we booked. Seeing it in person was way better - Charlotte was right - breathtaking views. The property was well maintained. Charlotte is a wonderful artist and her place reflects the whimsical. For the foodies out there. The stove is a gas Viking stove. We had a blast cooking on it all week. Charlotte was a great help and quick to help when we had a question regarding hiking trails or places to visit. We would definitely recommend to friends. Places to see....Biltmore Estates, Moses H. Cone Memorial Park & Flat Top Manor - the artisan workshop is the place to get local hand made crafts, Blowing Rock and Boone. Spa recommendations...Do not go to Chetola Spa. $129.00 a day pass - Bad customer service and message was OK- swimming pool for people with allergies, horrible lunch (they took it off the bill). Better choice - Westglow Spa $195 a day pass - cleaner, high end but swimming pool is highly chlorinated. The farmers market on wed and sat in Boone. We look forward to coming back next year!
