The weather was fine,
We read the whole guestbook
We drank lots of wine.
We're reading departure
And eating some chips
Pete knows construction
He's giving us tips.
We like how the sky stretches out on all sides
The sun comes out sometimes
And sometimes it hides.
We like all the cacti
Antlers and masks
We even lliked doing
The clean up crew tasks.
But, Sun Dancer, baby,
We've gotta depart
But we leave behind
A piece of our......
I'm not sure how to end this.
Wow!! What a wonderful weekend! Our daughter got married this weekend. We live out of state & were referred to this site. While we rented the house for the weekend, we also had the rehearsal dinner on Saturday. Our Bridal party, Grooms family extended members were taken aback by the whole experience! The lodge, the spacious rooms, more than enough seating for dinner and the decks with more stars than you could imagine. When you say a full kitchen, you are true to form.
My Husband leaving everything to me & was so happy with the outcome! From the views, the beautiful mornings & the hot tub as we were gathering our clothes, kitchen items, dishes and what-nots! (He really did most of that, so when he mentioned Hot Tub, I told him to take as long as he wanted!)
We bought solar lights and placed them on either side of the drive, which not only aided people up the drive, from the deck it made a regal impression for all.
My extended family were so impressed & said we should make it a yearly reunion spot!
Thank you so much! While the wedding was breathtaking, heart melting and unbelievably memorable, the stay at your lodge added so much. Our Daughter & new Son sent us a message that read: from minute one, our new life was magical!
Thank you a hundred times! If you want somewhere that offers every measure of the Shennandoah experience with warmth and comforts, come on down!
Have to admit after reading the disgruntled review from the person with food on the utensils and bugs we were a little apprehensive, but after staying there for a weekend I have come to the conclusion that Ms disgruntled would find something wrong with a five star Hotel. This get away is exactly that, a beautiful country home with a million dollar view. Has all of the amenities that one has at home and we experienced no bugs, tv worked everything was perfect. Very clean, will definitely come back and I recommend it everyone.
Stayed here with a group of friends earlier this summer to celebrate a birthday. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was and continues to do so a month later. The house itself is wonderful - large and beautifully appointed with plenty of beds and bathrooms - and the land surrounding it is lush and verdant and peaceful. We spent our days biking and running and hiking and then cooked amazing dinners in the enormous kitchen. Best of all was the profusion of fireflies that appeared once the sun had set. I haven't seen that many fireflies since I was a kid. It was a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much!! The Sun Dancer property is simply amazing!!! The property exceeded our expectations in every way imaginable!!! Our entire group fell in love immediately and is already talking about our next trip back. It was very hard for us to leave at the end of our stay; we sat on the deck looking out over the view and did not want to leave. Simply amazing and perfect in every aspect, every room was decorated to perfection with unique and fascinating artifacts. The layout of the property is very accommodating, comfortable and beautiful. We were immediately at home upon arrival. The sunrise from the living room and front deck is unbelievable! The game room provided hours of entertainment on a rainy day. A short walk to the Grotto with a bottle of wine is a must! After hiking Old Rag Mountain, the Sun Dancer, welcomed us with open arms, hot showers and baths, aaahh!! Biking through the countryside offered amazing views at every turn! We had the honor of meeting the owner and it was as if we were old friends, at that moment, I knew we were in good hands. Thank you so much for allowing us to experience a part of your world. I will absolutely recommend your properties to all my friends and co-workers. Hope to be doing business with you in the very near future. Thanks again!!
My family rented this house for a reunion. We had cousins in every corner! No one felt crowded, everyone was comfortable, and we couldn't stop talking about how beautifully appointed it was! The kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The showers were marvelous. The beds were great. Amazingly, the linens in my bed were like 600 count! Sitting in the hot tub under the stars was fabulous. The views -- breathtaking. While we were there, it snowed while the sun was shining - never seen anything like it. There's tons of stuff to do - games and game tables, magazines, a large selection of movies, books, and Old Rag Mountain to hike. We had a few ladybugs too -- they were cute! We kept a fire going all day every day - there's a huge woodpile outside - and just enjoyed being together in a wonderful place. My family wants to do our next reunion there too!
I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who enjoys luxury and beauty. It is beyond clean and well-maintained. All the amenities were as advertised. I can't speak to customer service, since we didn't need any, which is the best compliment of all.
The little Country Store in Etlan is run by a great guy named Don, who smokes all his own meats. Go try it, you'll love it! Also, we totally loved the Thornton River Grille in Sperryville, a true gourmet restaurant find. The whole area is great for antiquing, and the wineries are a ton of fun.
In short, not only would I go back again, I most certainly will!
I WOULD NOT stay here. My family and I spent almost a week at this house. The place was dirty with dead bugs on the floor, the utensils in the kitchen had food caked on them, the phone did not work (in case of emergencies), the owners could not be reached while we were at the property (they returned my phone call while I was on my flight home), the TV downstairs did not work, the beds were uncomfortable. The view from the deck was great if you could handle the HUNDREDS of lady bugs (literally) that got in your hair and clothes. I would not recommend this property. There are too many other places to choose from in the same area.
If you want to visit a nearby city, Charlottesville, Flint Hill, Washington & Culpeper are close with many restaurants, movies, live theater, concerts & shops plus there are many other smaller 'country towns' which offer an inside peak of 'real' country life. Visit some of the many wineries, golf, horseback ride, historic sites & battlefields, Luray Caverns, Historic Monticello & Montpelier, antique shops, art galleries, University of VA in Charlottesville. Ski at Massanutten, 1 hour away, or enjoy their golf, go carts, bowling, or huge indoor/outdoor water park. A massage therapist will come to the lodge for your spa needs. There are many scheduled events, festivals, & activities throughout the year. There are world class (Inn of Little Washington) to down home restaurants within 5-25 miles. The lodge is ideal for family gatherings, corporate retreats, reunions, birthdays, girls/guys weekends & theme weekends: cooking, painting, photography, birding, book clubs, biking, hiking, relaxing, nature & much more
