An ultra-luxurious “roughing it” experience

Perfect home for a true vacation. We were 5 adults and a 2 yr-old, and everyone had a great time! The house never felt crowded. The pool is fabulous, as are the views from the home. Design of home is amazing—you can be outside at all times, rain or shine. The whole back of the house is made up of glass doors, which makes for a constant indoor-outdoor experience. Outdoor dining table is beautiful and large. Outdoor speakers complete the experience. Kitchen is large and modern. The master bathroom is beautiful, though quite a few of us stuck to the fabulous outdoor shower for all our cleansing purposes! This home really lends itself to being outside; reading, swimming and relaxing.
The location of this property is amazing, as long as you don’t mind being a bit remote. The property is only about a 10 minute drive from town, but the road to the property is a bit treacherous. A four-wheel drive is a must. But once you master the road, it is a treat to go such little distance and yet be so removed! You don’t see any other homes from this property. Pedro and Maria are caretakers who live on the property, and they were wonderful. Maria cleans the house every day, and Pedro the grounds and pool. They are extremely nice and welcoming, and add to a feeling of security. (Spanish is definitely a plus in communicating with them).
The town of San Juan del Sur is great—sleepy, lots of surfing, some restaurants and coffee shops. Nothing that blows you away at first glance, but it grows on you as you explore. And Nicaragua is amazing—beautiful, largely untouched, lush, great beaches. Definitely a lesser developed/ tarnished Costa Rica.
We went in early August, which meant high temperatures and periods of rain most days. The house is not air-conditioned. Although we found this to overall be a positive (it kind of forces you to be at one with your surroundings); it does make for warm sleeping and bugs. Maria's daily cleaning helps with the bugs, and the fans throughout the house and patio keep things comfortable, but it is something to be considered.
Another small negative: the refrigerator. Seems like a minor detail, but as we really did spend so much time at the home, it was somewhat of an annoyance to not be able to count on cold drinks or ice cubes!
All in all, an amazing home in an unbelievable location. Recommended for anyone who enjoys being outside and relaxing and can handle a few bugs and no air-conditioning.
