Relax on the brick terrace and let the ripple of the tidal waterfall transport you back to a simpler time. A weeping willow frames your view of Wickford Village across Academy Cove. A garden walkway leads you into the sunny living room with centuries-old wide plank floors, original woodwork and windows overlooking the water. The updated but period appropriate kitchen has a water view and wide plank floors. A winding New England staircase leads to the large, cozy bedroom with adjoining bath. The coastal breeze and the bird's eye view of the cove are unforgettable.

Notes: The Yellow Ell is decorated to take advantage of the exceptional waterside setting and to ensure a comfortable stay. Cozy living room furniture makes you want to stay on vacation forever, just gazing out at the water. If you prefer to stay in touch with the modern world, there is wireless internet and a flat screen TV with cable. The adjacent kitchen is limited in size by the historic house configuration but is very convenient with new appliances and fixtures. The original wide plank floor was restored from under layers of linoleum. The brick terrace along the water has table and chairs, shade umbrella and a gas grill for outside dining --- a wonderful way to watch the sunset over the tidal coves. We try to limit allergens in the use of materials and furnishings, with emphasis on local and natural products. This unit is an attached ell and there are common shared yard areas with listing #227881.

The Yellow Ell and Westgate Watson House: Reflected across the water of Academy Cove, the 1806 Westgate Watson House is one of the most painted and photographed scenes in Wickford Village. The Yellow Ell predates the main house and was once separate, a classic colonial “one-room” house from the mid 1700's. At some point, the ell was attached to the main house, since a true Yankee would never let a good house go to waste. Modern conveniences (such as indoor plumbing!) were accommodated to the existing floor plan with minimal changes. While care has been taken to preserve the historic integrity of the house, the ell combines the best of the old and new without compromising comfort. The rooms are sunny and airy with windows on both sides, giving wonderful views and letting in the cool coastal breeze.

Other details: The Ell is an attached unit (please see listing # 227881) to the main house and has some shared common areas in the yard. The terrace is reserved for the Ell since it adjoins that unit.
