Photos and Description of the County Clare vacation house rental
3 bedrooms (one queen, two twin), 3 full baths, sleeps 6

This beautiful home was built in 1998 as a traditional, thatched-roof, Irish cottage and contains all modern amenities.

Each of the bedrooms is en suite, with antique pine furniture. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the two guest rooms each have twin beds. The master bath has a bathtub and shower.

The Great Room has a two story fireplace, conveniently gas fired. There is a panoramic conservatory with 180 degree views, including Cecil B. Demille sunsets.

The cottage is well planted with a berm to the west, giving privacy and a profusion of flowering plants.

The view from the house was featured in the September 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. The striking Doonagore Castle, one of the most photographed castles in Ireland, is located immediately down the hill from the cottage and is framed by the conservatory windows. A round tower built c.1350, Doonagore Castle was entirely restored in 1975.

The cottage is surrounded by grazing cattle, lending another level of tranquility to the idyllic setting.

A circular driveway brings guests close to the front door, should there ever be inclement weather! We joke that our favorite occupation is sitting in the conservatory and watching the weather change.

When the cottage was being built, one of the builders suggested naming the cottage. He said we should name it Draiocht, which means a magical, marvelous place and it is.

Best Week of My Life

Submitted: June 9, 2009 Stayed: May 2009
We spent a week here for our honeymoon, and it was the most beautiful, fun, romantic week of my life. The house is so warm and welcoming, we immediatly felt at home. The view from the house is absolutely breathtaking. I just can't say enough good things about this place and the surrounding area. The owners are wonderful, and very helpful. We definitly want to return someday.

A Glorious Place to Watch the Sun Go Down on Galway Bay

5 of 5
Submitted: November 5, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
The cottage is perched high over the village of Doolin with a spectacular view of the aran island and the Atlantic. Wonderful condition, clean, fully appointed, thoroughly comfortable. A big bay window to relax and watch the weather roll in. Minutes from the Cliffs of Moher and the music in the pubs of Doolin. We took day trips to Galway, Connemara, Tipperary and points south. The coast road and various back roads over the Burren present breathtaking views, and of course the people are the friendliest in the world - it is the west of Ireland after all. Highest recommendation.

A View Into Ireland's Soul

A View Into Ireland's Soul
5 of 5
Submitted: July 19, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
One changes from tourist to traveler when experiences evoke the character of a place. Our 4 days in this exquisite house changed the way we think of Ireland. The views are spectacular, and you WILL spend time watching the weather change from the conservatory, the Aran Islands appearing then disappearing in an ethereal mist several times in a day. The Cliffs of Moher are just up the seaside road, and the village of Doolin lies just below the castle that frames the home's view of the ocean, but it is what you FEEL while here that will stay with you forever. The house is a perfect design, centered around the conservatory, a fully appointed kitchen, and a charming living room with beamed ceilings and stone fireplace. Impeccably clean, with such warm touches as Irish lace curtains and sachets in every drawer, the owners have thoughtfully provided everything from sweaters & walking sticks to salad bowls and orange juicer. From the absolute comfort of a modern home, built to resemble an ancient Irish cottage (complete with thatched roof), you can look out to the Arans while reading a book from the well-stocked library about like on the Blaskets, just off the Dingle Peninsula, a day trip away. It was the story of the Blaskets that forever changed our view of Ireland, and the epiphany came while sitting in the conservatory of this beautiful home. There are beautiful seashores in other countries, though none prettier, but it is the resilience of a people who endured hardships without complaint, and their resolve to make craggy piles of wind-raked rock their homes, that we will forever remember. This home is perfectly situated to provide a view into Ireland's soul. Warm & charming, just like the people, perched high above a 14th century castle and the crashing waves of the sea, jutting like the jaws of the hearty souls who left the Blaskets in currach boats. So taken were we by the experience in this house that we are having a bronze relief of a currach boat shipped home where it will become the centerpiece of our own living room, beside our own stone fireplace, forever a reminder of four days in an Irish cottage that changed our lives.

Owner's Response: Dear Tom,

Gerry and I were so touched by your beautiful words. You experienced the house just as we hope all of our guests will. And you describe it with such poetry! We hope you will have a chance for another visit to discover the magic once again.

Beautiful and Restorative

5 of 5
Submitted: July 6, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
Just returned from a wonderful week at this beautiful cottage. My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary here, and it made for a most romantic location (the sunsets from the conservatory are unbeatable). Would be suitable for a family or gathering of friends, too, as the bedrooms are private and ensuite. The cottage is very tastefully decorated - it feels like an authentic home and not simply a "holiday rental." Everything practical that you would need (laundry facilities, quality linens, extra blankets and towels, ample kitchen supplies) is provided, and the property is in excellent condition with comfortable and charming furnishings (as well as interesting books to read on Irish history, music, and other arts). The surrounding area is filled with attractions (natural and historic sites, walks, golf, good restaurants and music) but one can also simply spend the day at the cottage itself, soaking in the peace, quiet and stunning landscape. The actual views are even more beautiful in person than the photos on this website could portray. We have been renting houses in Ireland for some years now, and this cottage is now at the top of our list. A gem!
Owner's Response: Gerry and I were delighted to read the review of your stay in our house. Thank you for your kind words and compliments. I am especially pleased that you felt it was a real home.
! And we'd be so delighted to think that you would come again! Thank you, Gay

A Countryside Utopia

5 of 5
Submitted: November 17, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
My friend and I stayed in this gorgeous cottage in August, and I can honestly say I have never stayed in a more cozy or beautiful residence. The view from the sunroom is one that takes your breath away, as the house is situated on the top of a hill overlooking the equally cozy town of Doolin, the countryside, the ocean, and even a castle. Although we visited Galway and Dublin during our trip, the best part was spending time in the house enjoying the view. The pubs nearby were also a delight, filled with live music and joyful people. It was an experience I will never forget, and I cannot thank the owners enough for letting us stay there!
