Photos and Description of the North East vacation house rental 4 BR, 2 Full Baths, 1 half bath, sleeps 10

Tranquility and solitude are among the first words that come to mind when describing this property. Peace washes over you the moment you turn down the mile long drive. This brick colonial sits on a low bluff overlooking the confluence of the Elk River and Piney Creek, on the western shore of Elk Neck. Tall trees and open fields provide the backdrop. A circular driveway and two car garage provide ample parking. A large front yard and front deck face the river where you can watch ships pass by on their way to and from Baltimore and the C&D Canal. Elk Neck State Park and the Turkey Point Lighthouse are a short drive, as are the restaurants and antique shops of North East and Chesapeake City. Take long leisurely walks up the drive, in the fields or along the shore. Bring your fishing gear and binoculars too, fish and birds are abundant as are the deer and foxes. This is a property where you can definitely get away from it all while staying close to civilization.

The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States and is about 200 miles long from its northernmost point near Elkton, Maryland to its southernmost point near Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Elk River is located on its northernmost point and is a major shipping lane for freight transiting the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The Elk is situated close to 4 other rivers which meet near Turkey Point at the tip of Elk Neck: the Susquehanna, the North East, the Sassafrass, and the Bohemia. On August 25, 1777, as part of the British campaign to take Philadelphia, General Howe and 15,000 British soldiers landed at Head of Elk (now 'Elkton') after sailing from New York. He marched his troops to Chadds Ford, Pa. where on September 11th they fought with General Washington's 11,000 colonial soldiers on the Brandywine Creek. The British lost 576 in the battle. The Americans suffered 1,200 killed, wounded or taken prisoner and fell back to Chester, Pa. in an orderly retreat.

Back to nature

Shiloh11 Fallston, Maryland
Review Submitted: August 29, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
What a wonderful vacation spot! Beautiful, quiet and full of wildlife. The home was clean and tastefully and comfortably furnished. The owners met us upon arrival and provided answers to our questions and showed us where to find everything. The owners provided kayaks and the views of the wildlife while kayaking are beautiful.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding town of North East and shopping is not far from the home.
I would highly recommend this property for anyone seeking quiet refuge and renewing their appreciation of nature.

A slice of heaven

I was in a unique situation trying to find a place that was peaceful yet not too far away from the charming town of North East and surrounding CHES. bay Towns. I needed to find a home that would be spacious enough for 8 people .. six of which were teens that had all been on the Oprah show along with my daughter. All of these teens were traveling into Philadelphia and continuing on to a camp a few days later in New York ...which Oprah had provided a scholarhip for these teens to attend. As these teens were arriving from as far as California, Utah, Florida etc. I wanted a home that would be comfortable and spacious , but yet provide an unique experience for these teens. We couldn't have found a more ideal rental property. This home was designed to offer the best of both worlds ...enough room for each of them to have their own privacy , but also an inviting and warm atmosphere in the open-ness of the floor plan of the living/dining room combination. The living room fireplace seems to be calling out to sit down , relax, take a load off and enjoy the breath-taking beauty of the surrounding scenery that this home has to offer. The views from the deck were so beautiful that it captivated all of the teens attention, and that is saying alot when you can get six teens to put down cell-phones, ipods etc and just enjoy nature!!!! The home was absolutely immaculant, and everything we needed was right there ...right down to the aluminum foil for the gas grill. We kayaked, nature-watched ( spotting fox, eagles, deer, heron etc.) but most of all the most importand thing that this home provided for us was that it built fond memories that will never be forgotten by us all. The owners were kind and gracious in offering us a deal in providing this home to us and the property manager that we dealt with ( gave exceptional service) right down to the very last detail... they even tied yellow ribbon on trees for us so that we could easily locate the path to the beach area... Everything about renting this home was made easy and stress-free for us ..I highy recommend that as soon as you read this review ... you make a call to Heather and reserve your little piece of heaven with her (410-287-4900) This home is nestled in a peaceful, private setting with an awesome view of the water right off the deck... and even though it is nestled in peace and quiet it is onl 1-2 hours away form D.C . NewYork City, Atlantic city, the boardwalk beaches, Baltimore, Amish county in PA. etc

Great, Private Spot to Get Away

slipnslide DC, USA
Review Submitted: July 9, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
A group of friends and I had a great weekend stay here. The house is comfortable and well appointed, the view is beautiful and the owners are friendly and helpful. There is water access with three boats, and the Elk River is a great place for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. The stretch of river by the house is peaceful and removed from the main channel, so the boating is especially relaxing. Our group caught some fish, saw eagles, hawks, herons, deer and foxes, and was able to have a bonfire by the water. If you are looking to get away for a weekend and relax in a private, natural setting, this house is ideal. They even keep the kitchen stocked with the basics, which helps to remove the stress from your vacation (nobody likes to wake up and realize that they forgot the coffee filters). Highly recommended.

Restful Sanctuary with Convenience

Francie B Charlotte,NC
Review Submitted: May 7, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
When we arrived from Charlotte my weary soul was refreshed as we drove down the one mile driveway back to this lovely waterfront gem in the middle of rolling green pastures and graceful open fields.

The directions and description of this property were precise and very helpful. Situated in a retreat setting but not far from the interstate and the charming Chesapeake towns of North East, Chesapeke City and Havre de Grace, this home allowed for great sightseeing, unique shopping, delightful restaurants and interesting history.

Arriving was like coming home with the welcoming warmth and hospitality of family. The service was gracious, and the home was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed down to the detail of soap, hairdryer and even wood ready for a relaxing fire in the den that evening.

The house feels roomy with an open kitchen to the spacious dining room and cozy den with firepalce, and the two decks provide outdoor living space with unhindered views of the water and a large grill. Downstairs is a rec room with large TV for indoor entertainment.

I needed rest, and this was a perfect sanctuary for soul care and restoration with the peaceful surroundings, the bird watching and wildlife (saw deer, hawks, blue herons and a variety of birds), long, tranquil walks and the soothing water views from almost every window. The rainy days we spent here did not thwart my enjoyment of this nature lover's paradise.

This experience was truly "home away" from home in a retreat setting with city convenience. It was the best of both worlds and a perfect spot for a relaxing and inspiring getaway. I highly recommend it and look forward to a time when I can return.
