Anna Maria Island is that rare destination which can provide a laid back & relaxing setting while only a short distance from the frenzied excitement of Disney & Orlando (2 hours away) and Tampa's Busch Gardens (1 hour). For a more tranquil adventure you can paddle around the inland waterways of nearby Myakka State Park or the mangrove lined saltwater byways of the Robinson Preserve just off the island. Our next door neighbor Sarasota has the Ringling Museum of Art, Selby Botanical Gardens, Gee Whiz Children's Museum & all the performing arts including theater, symphony, ballet & opera. The Village of the Arts in Bradenton is a quick drive across the bridge as well as the South Florida Museum & Planetarium. A wonderful day can be spent at the Mote Marine Research facilities on Longboat Key with its aquariums & dolphin rehab project. Outlet shopping can be found in Ellenton & antiquing is everywhere. Pittsburgh Pirate spring training takes place in Bradenton where you can take in a game.
