As we were on a budget and also miss good old home cooked food when on holiday, we decided to rent a condo. We've always stayed in hotels, so renting a condo was a first for us, but we are so glad we did. The booking process from start to finish was a breeze and Dainora was very accommodating. The condo itself was very clean and spacious with a homely feel. It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Great shower, comfy bed, lots of storage space, well-stocked kitchen. The view is breath-taking and we often had our meals out on the lanai, staring in awe of the ocean. Sunday-Thursday the Hilton have a luau in the evening and we sat watching that from the lanai. Every Friday at 7.40pm the Hilton also put on a firework spectacular and you can sit on the beach by the lagoon and watch it for free. The Ilikai building itself has a little shop were you can buy groceries but it appears that a bigger Makai market is about to open up, so no doubt more things will be sold for your convenience. There's an ABC store across the road, but they are expensive and a bit limited for choice, so we shopped at Foodland at Ala Moana shopping centre (15 min walk), but there are Safeway stores a bus ride away. We ate at the bar and the food was very nice and as a treat we dined at Sarentos at the top of the hotel. The glass elevator view was magnificent, not to mention the 360 degree views from the restaurant itself. It's a little pricey but the cocktails and food served are well worth it. We were very impressed by the service. If you want a nice relaxing, less hustle and bustle holiday, then this area of Waikiki is the place. Having stayed the other end before, we now much prefer near the Ilikai. The hilton lagoon is is open to everyone and the beaches are less crowded here, which we loved. Unless of course you like being like a sardine on the beach! With a bus stop outside everything is easily accessible but we walked most of the time. We highly recommend this condo!
