Guestbook comments from the owner
Thank you, everything was wonderful! The house was spotless and very comfortable. Everything we needed were provided for and well supplied. I had never been inside a timber frame home before and I just loved the fragrance whenever I entered the house. The woodsy setting was lovely, too. Also your water tasted good, always ice cold right from the tap...the best! Yes, it was perfection.

WHAT A BLESSING THIS HOME IS!

  • 5 of 5
Hello Reader,
My husband, our two young children and I enjoyed an extended stay in this breathtaking home! We resided during Winter and Spring months in the beginning of 2010.
We love the location of this uniquely constructed home. The privacy is second to none and thus the driveway provides an ideal spot for morning and late evening walks. The deck is spacious and accommodating for wonderful retreats.
The home itself offers the guests the opportunity to enjoy a "labor of love". The builder of this home is magnificent (John), he was such a resource during our stay! The interior offers a bounty of natural light and a haven to be embraced! The beds are beyond what one would consider comfortable. The linens are lovely and the appliances, stock of supplies and needed inventory were above and beyond what we imagined.
You will truly enjoy your stay here! Quietside and Mt. Desert Island, coupled, offer the stayer a retreat from mundane into a getaway that feels like a long lost home.
We are excited to return one day soon and pray that you have a glorious stay!
In closing I must give attention to mentioning how respectful and willing to please the owner (Martha) and the management staff were!
You will be blessed.

WONDERFUL SETTING AND LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
I loved the natural light streaming through windows and skylights, very comfortable beds with nice linens, and the kitchen-dining room furnished with all we needed to cook and eat together at the large dining table. The house was obviously built and furnished with lots of love for the outdoors and with care about having pleasant gathering spaces as well as spots to curl up with a good book. It was very clean and uncluttered. You could go cycling or hiking from the house or easily drive to the water and Arcadia National Park.

BLISS IN THE MAINE WOODS

  • 5 of 5
How happy we were to arrive at Quietside after a long day's drive! Although it was dark, the light was on and entry was easy- and when we walked inside, we were charmed and delighted. The beautiful wooden walls, floors and stairs were mesmerizing to our weary eyes, and the immaculate and attractive kitchen, baths and living areas made us feel at home immediately. We spent much time on the huge deck and especially enjoyed the Maine-style landscaping- boulders, lichen, blueberry bushes and pine trees, all in abundance.
The location is very convenient- just a short drive to enter the Park, and only a few minutes to charming Southwest Harbor with its fine restaurants and shopping.
If you are looking for natural beauty, comfortable beds, easy access to services, and genuine peace and quiet, you cannot do better than Quietside. We are frequent renters in Acadia, Europe, and other locations, but this house holds a special place in our memories for the soothing and relaxing experience we enjoyed there. Of course, we hope to return someday!

A RELAXING HONEYMOON GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Quietside in October. The leaves were spectacular. After beautiful hikes and outings to town, we returned to the peace of the woods and our very private, quiet home-for-a-week. I don't think we've ever slept so well.

The house is new (stunning craftsmanship!), well-equipped, comfortable, clean, lovely, and we were very well taken care of -- Martha is a pleasure to work with. It would be difficult to exaggerate just how special this place is. Go and enjoy!

PERFECT BAR HARBOR GET AWAY!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed in this beautiful home during the summer and can't wait to return!  It is built in a quiet area yet close to everything.  Not only is the home gorgeous it is clean, tastefully decorated and is built so the deck feels like part of the inside; sliding doors open to allow all the warmth and sunshine in.  The house is large enough to handle many active people and yet quiet upstairs for sleeping.   All instructions were easy to follow and plenty of information on where to eat, what to see and where to kayak were left for us.  We took some of the phamplets with us on our day trips to the wonderful sights and had no trouble finding everything, including good restaurants and shopping.  We look forward to going there again and bringing friends with us.  Lane

PLEASURES OF THE QUIET SIDE.

  • 5 of 5
The house is new, immaculate, spacious and well-equipped. As an architect I was particularly impressed by the artistry of the pegged timber construction and attention to detail. Nicely situated in the woods on the quiet side of the island, the house makes an ideal place to experience the pleasures of MDI without the bustle of Bar Harbor. We enjoyed hiking by ourselves on mountain trails with ocean views; biking on back roads with no traffic; kayaking in quiet ponds and coves, playing tag with loons as bald eagles watched from above; afternoon swims off the rocks in nearby Echo Lake; shore walking and birding at Ship Harbor and Pretty Marsh. Grocery shopping and other amenities are available in laid-back Southwest Harbor just 5 miles away. One could easily spend several weeks on the “quiet side” without running out of wonderful things to do; but of course Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, the Park Loop Drive and the Jordan Pond House are just a short drive away, for those wishing a change of pace. Choosing the best place to eat lobster on MDI is a matter of much debate, but for lobster rolls my vote goes to Beal’s pier in nearby Southwest Harbor; and you can’t beat the food and atmosphere on Thurston’s deck as the sun sets over the picturesque fishing harbor at Bernard.

There is an amazing variety of activities for all ages on Mount Desert Island. Acadia National Park rangers offer nature, seacoast and wildlife programs for adults and children. A fifty-mile network of gravel-surfaced carriage roads is perfect for jogging, walking, or cycling. The 20-mile Park Loop Road is one of the great scenic roads of our nation. Get up early and bike it. Mountain trails range from child-friendly to challenging. Swim at Sand Beach on the ocean if you dare, but there are warmer life guarded lake beaches or scenic swimming from the rocks of Echo Lake. Take a ferry to Little Cranberry Island, tour the museum and have lobster on the ferry dock. Explore wonderful gardens. Don't forget tea and popovers on the lawn at the Jordan Pond House. Kayak Somes Sound or Pretty Marsh; you may find seals or eagles. Play golf or tennis, go shopping, attend a band concert on the square, and check out the Reel Pizza Cinema in Bar Harbor. Better stay at least two weeks.

Other Activities: Kayaking, canoeing, birding
