Treasure Beach is an unspoiled series of fishing villages 30 minutes east of Black River. Local activities include swimming, snorkeling, biking and boat tours. Exciting boat tours of Black River, Jamaica’s largest and third longest river, includes mangroves, bird sanctuaries, crocodiles, and a stop at the Pelican Bar (a cool bar with hammocks in the middle of the sea). This boat tour can be started right from the Sandy Rose Villa's beachfront area. Other attractions include YS Falls, a spectacular waterfall with pools, rope swings, and gardens, tours of Appleton Rum Factory, a visit to Lover's Leap, a 1,700-foot cliff overhanging the sea which has a breathtaking vistas, golf courses in Mandeville, and Alligator Pond featuring 'Little Ochie' fish restaurants. The annual Calabash Literary Festival each May attracts artists and poets worldwide. There are also many great restaurants in Treasure Beach, including our favorites, Jakes, Jack Sprat, and The Wild Onion.
