While St John has always been our favorite place on earth, by far Catherineberg is the nicest location on all of St John. There are few prized parcels in this coveted location and you hardly know there is another property around. Located right in the middle of St John's north shore National Park, the views are some of the best on the planet. The convenience to the north shore beaches yet close to town is another factor in our choosing this location. The feel of Old St John with the nearby Catherineberg ruins adds a special uniqueness.
Island Stones will forever be the most special place on earth for my wife and I. We were married right on the pool deck May 1, 2010. If you think the pictures are beautiful, just wait until you see the views with your own eyes. It is a Grand Canyon type experience, only Caribbean style. I recommend the bumpy drive up John's Head Road for an utterly adventurous accent to paradise. For those less daring, it is easily accessible by the main road. This is the perfect villa for a couple or for a large group. We know because we did both during our 2 week stay. St John is an amazing island. It gets under your skin and stays with you. Having traveled all over the island a couple times now, we still haven't found a more beautiful setting than Island Stones. If you are looking for a place to appreciate the beauty and splendor of nature, don't hesitate to book Island Stones. Each of your guests (even 12) will have ample privacy due to the layout of the bedrooms. And for socializing, there is no better place than the pool deck, outside bar and patio. This villa is clean, private, comfortable and just can't say enough about those views. They will put you into a trance and take your breath away.
Thanks to the owners for taking such pride in this villa!
Love to Island Stones forever,
Erin and Billy
Our group of 12 stayed at Island Stones for our annual couples trip. The house is truly fabulous and with 6 King Suites all with private baths, it was perfect for our group. The pool area & views are spectacular and can't be beat. John & Vicky were great to work with and easy to contact, prompt responses to all emails. Larissa & Henry were there if we needed anything and we appreciated having someone to call upon 24/7. Highly recommend renting JEEPs well in advance. Our group rented 3 JEEPS and it was perfect. Larissa & Henry helped us with planning ahead for restaurants, personal chefs and daysails. We found St. John to have many great restaurants and visited many of them. Just a fabulous week and we hope to return one day. Don't hesitate to book this villa, you won' t regret it.
We had a surprise 50th birthday for my wife. Six couples spent the week at this fabulous location! Henry and Larissa were exceptional and took care of all our needs from pre-trip throughout our stay!! Larissa even found us a pirate ship to charter for a day of sailing and snorkeling! Her restaurant recommendations were outstanding! The Island Stones' views are incredible! The rooms are fabulous with individual outside showers! Often the property doesn't live up to the pictures but in this case Island Stones is everything it is shown to be! Although we ate out, the kitchen is a chef's dream and we may bring in some local chef's for our next trip to Island Stones! (Oops, there goes my negotiating power!) I could go on for pages but suffice it to say Island Stones is magnificent! Thank you so much, John and Vicky for sharing your beautiful place. Henry and Larissa, you two are the best and thank you for becoming our new friends and helping make my lovely bride's 50th a forever moment!
Island Stones is a Villa out of a story book. There were 12 of us, ranging in age from 32-61 and we all agree our stay in this Villa was like a dream come true. From the views, to the amenities, to the attention to our requests. During our stay we asked for beach chairs, snorkel equipment a couple repairs all were delivered or completed within hours of our request. Henry, who is in charge of maintenance, truly did everything possible to make our visit to Island Stones as comfortable as possible. And he succeeded!
This trip was in celebration of mine and my husbands 10 year anniversary. We were married on St. John and most of this same group was with us in 2004 and although the villa we rented then was also stupendous, Island Stones wins the prize. We have always done all of our own shopping and cooking during these trips. Island Stones made this an easy task for 12. The veranda and the bar area is such a wonderful place for gathering and just having fun. The Wifi was great, we were able to hook up our Iphones, play our music, dance and enjoy. During the days, after returning from the beach, we would take to the pool for a late afternoon dip along with afternoon cocktails. How fun!
As for the house itself, wow! The bedrooms are nicely separated and you have a lot of privacy. Everyone loved their outside showers and as I briefly mentioned already, the kitchen and all the amenities made storing all the food and cooking a breeze.
As others have mentioned in their reviews, renting a four wheel vehicle is necessary. Although a taxi will come down the road, it makes it much easier to just drive yourself. We rented three (3) Jeeps between the twelve of us and that worked out perfectly.
If you are one of the lucky ones who gets a chance to rent this wonderful villa, we hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Island Stones advertising promised a luxurious villa with some of the best views on St. John and it delivered in spades.
Our extended family group of ten adults (22-60) and an infant spent an amazing week at this island paradise. The house's architecture is a perfect compliment to the lush hillside in which it sits overlooking Cinnamon Bay and the BVIs. It is a setting where you could stay for a week and never feel compelled to venture out for other activities. That being said, the local beaches with great snorkeling, chartered fishing, endless shopping on St. Thomas, etc. are a lure.
While this is not a vacation spot for families with young children or mobility impaired individuals, it was delightful for our group of adults who were agile enough to navigate the paths and stairs of stone. The roads take a bit of getting used to and the grocery shopping/dining out is a bit pricey on the island, but if you are at all adventurous you will find this a trip worth making and Island Stones a villa worth splurging on.
Words can not begin to express the beauty of Island Stones. It will be a part of my heart and memory forever. We spent a week at island Stones with our friends and family and it was the best trip we ever took. The villa was perfect...each room has it's own charm and they bedrooms are spread out so you never feel like you are on top of each other. The pics on the site were accurate in depicting the beauty of the villa and I believe the villa is even more magnificent in real life. The pool and view took my breath away every morning as I had my coffee outside. We got married while there and had the very best time. The Daly's were great and amazing to rent from...so friendly and willing to go the extra mile for us. We hope to return next year and every year after! Thanks John and Vicky for everything!

After a joyous week at Island Stones, everyone wants to return.
When reviewing the website; please believe it and much more! The reality is awesome.
The view from the pool deck is transfixing—best on St John, with occasional full-sky rainbows. We loved the top-of-the-mountain isolation.
The excellent layout provides large separate areas for individual privacy and full-family partying. Bedrooms have in- and out-door (loved it) showers; most have private decks with spectacular views over St John's north shore and the British Virgin Islands. We enjoyed the beautiful private gardens with flowers everywhere. The serene setting is completely private: no houses or people ever seen.
The website only hints at the beauty and fun of the infinity pool and spacious deck. The well maintained freshwater pool is crystal clear, with an unusually attractive design. You and your kids will love it non-stop.
All amenities are top-of-line. We relished the high-performance outdoor grill sited conveniently just behind the large outdoor wet-bar. A/C is available throughout, but pleasant evening breezes discourage use. We preferred the atmosphere and sounds of the outdoor wilderness. We much appreciated the top-of-the-line appliances: clothes washer/dryer, dishwasher, side-by-side freezer/refrigerator. WiFi operated well.
An ample supply of excellent snorkeling gear and great canvas beach chairs were available.
The property management company for Island Stones is very friendly and attentive to your every need. An example: We gently complained of the absence of Champagne glasses—seriously compromising our new routine of relaxing on the deck while drinking in the grandeur of the Caribbean islands arrayed on the horizon. A brand new set of 8 etched crystal flutes appeared next day.
A few cautions:
1. Rent a jeep or SUV. The villa is off Route 206, many portions of which are narrow and bumpy; o.k. with a jeep. Drive <1 mile north to some of the best beaches on the island, but slowly, <10 mph.
2. Water flow diminishes when all of your kids shower simultaneously. Schedule them.
3. Mosquitos were a bit bothersome around sunrise and sunset, but controlled by insecticide spray.
4. Shop in Cruz Bay: best food market is Starfish (free parking). However, during the spring-break, Cruz Bay was too congested. Excellent cuisine can be enjoyed in small beach restaurants around Coral Bay (book ahead).
5. Reserve this best-in-class villa well in advance.
CInnamon Bay Beach, Trunk Bay Beach, Maho and Francis Beach, and all the North Shore St John National Park Beaches are just moments away. Walk to beautiful Catherineberg Ruins or for the hikers, walk to the beaches in about 15 minutes. Or hike to Reef Bay trail and a waterfall. A short ride down the hill in your 4WD Jeep will take you to Cinnamon Bay and all the best beaches on St. John. Centrally located and well away from North Shore and Centerline road noise, Island Stones is only minutes away from Cruz Bay, Coral Bay, Shopping, Fine Restaurants, and night life.
