We love our cottage and we hope you do as well! We geared our renovations toward relaxation and easy maintenance. We tried to stock everything you'd need to ensure a great time (and to keep you from having to bring up the kitchen sink). We have a large variety of movies (Kid friendly), games and toys (including beach toys) for your enjoyment. The basement is set up with toys, games, cable TV and is a safe and fun environment ... there is also plenty of room to play in the huge backyard, side yard or on the beautiful sandy beach. The entire layout of the home is geared toward outside activities and entertaining on the new 20 x 40 deck. Perfect for eating, laying out, watching the kids play, cooking on the grill, watching wildlife or the boats and my favorite ... sleeping.
We love our fires at night, and we have two fire pits. One up on top overlooking the beach and water and the other on the beach. Feel free to pitch a tent on the beach, that is an experience you won't forget.
1,800 square feet on 3/4 of an acre with one of the best beaches on West Bay!
We have made many renovations to make it an enjoyable and relaxing environment. To mention a few: gutted the kitchen and bath(s), 8 ft door wall and two French doors that open up to the huge deck (20 x 40), natural stone exterior, knotty pine walls and tile galore, plus hundreds of other items you would never notice!
The house is set off the road and we have plenty of room for additional parking on the side lot, driveway holds 4-6 vehicles.
Our house is your house, make yourself at home!

My wife and I have been married for over 14 years and we have a beautiful daughter. We love spending time in our cottage and we share it with our many friends. We feel blessed to be able to share it with all of the wonderful people who have rented from us in the past. We've met so many wonderful people and we really enjoy hearing about your time in TC.
Mike Thomas owner purchased this cottage in 2005
My parents have had a cottage in Traverse City for over 25 years and it was always a goal of mine to have a family getaway in that area. We just love the Traverse City area and plan on to retire up there in about 10 years!
We really spend our time relaxing. We often go up there with a long list of activities and find ourselves night after night in front of the fire pit. Just listening to the water crash on the shore and watching out for the Bald Eagles flying across the water, you just can't beat it!!
What a wonderful place. Even in the snow! Lots of room for family gatherings and great beds to rest upon and a fabulous fireplace to stay warm, and of course...one can't miss the gorgeous view of the bay. The owners did everything they could to accommodate our stay and saved the wedding day by honoring a request to please plow the driveway before our 2 am morning arrival after the reception. Thank you! We will cherish the memories that were spent at your cottage and hope to stay again someday.
This was the second time I've rented this home for our travels to TC, this time we went up for a friends wedding at Black Star Farms. Perfect location, close enough to the city but also close enough to the wine! The house is always in great shape, clean, and inviting. I would stay here again and again - and recommend anyone else to do the same - except the days that I want to stay there ;-) Mike you have a lovely home - thank you for sharing!
Great place for a family or group of friends to stay to enjoy what Northwestern Michigan has to offer. Gorgeous views of West Bay right from the spacious patio, entertainment area in the basement with a pool table and playroom for little ones, clean, well-stocked supplies, lots of space for everyone to sit and do their own thing. Only disadvantages are that the property is next to a busy road so you hear cars passing at night time and there is only one shower and two toilets, so it can be kind of difficult if there are 5+ people in the home.
The location is perfect as of distance from local attractions. Lots of wooded areas so we got to experience the beautiful colors of Fall all around us as we drove to our destinations. Few minutes away from downtown Traverse City(lots of restaurants and shops along Front St.) , The Village, and Sutton Bay, 30-40 minutes from great sites such as The Sleeping Bear Dunes, Old Mission Peninsula where there are beautiful orchards and vineyards (tons of wine tasting options).
Thank you Mike! Our family had a great time!
We were just there in Traverse City at your place for a week. Very relaxing vacation in Northern Michigan. Great deck for hanging out and spectacular views of the bay with clear water! The home was well stocked! Our daughter's wedding was nearby at a winery, so we had 8 of our family members there with us & had plenty of room. Close to town but away so you really could feel the escape of vacation. Close to bike trail and Suttons Bay and beautiful Ciccone and Black Star as well! Great house!
The view from all of the back windows, deck and shore was beautiful! Lovely large deck with plenty of chairs, and space for everyone to relax and enjoy. We used both fire pits, the one on the beach the night of the 4th and we could see the fireworks from Traverse City and all the surrounding areas. Nice amenities and so much room to cook in the kitchen! The location is perfect for every activity in the area! Wine tours, Fishtown, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Lighthouse, and of course all the excitement during the summer in Traverse City; all are close by and convenient. This would be a 5 star, but apparently there was a change of cleaning staff before our arrival and we had a few issues with fans being locked out of our reach etc., and we had to go out and purchase fans for the bedrooms to be comfortable. (an unexpected expense). The owner was able to resolve this by the second evening - thank you!
The view of the west bay from this house is stunning. The location between Sutton's Bay and Traverse City also make it a great starting point for escapades throughout the area. The only downside (and it's not just for this house) is the proximity to M22 in the front yard. There is a lot of traffic on M22, so it does take some getting used to. All in all, this was a great place to stay for a great vacation1
We have a large selection of games available including a basketball net, pool table, beach toys, inflatables, horse shoes, volleyball net, soccer ball and some fishing equipment. Of course it is hard to guarantee that all of these things will work when you get there because it is difficult to monitor their condition. As you can imagine, things break and turn up missing but we really try to keep a good selection of items available. I would venture to say that we have way more than most homes you would rent!!
