This wonderful retreat is in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area of the Chattahoochee National Forest, but is still only an hour and a half drive from Atlanta.
There is no end of fun things to do in this area. Hiking abounds: the Benton MacKaye and the Appalachian Trails heads are less than 15 minutes away on Springer Mountain, and there are numerous other trails all close by that lead to waterfalls and spectacular mountain views. Fishing opportunities in trout streams and in area mountain lakes are also plentiful and cater to all skill levels. Enjoy the canoeing and tubing on the Cartecay and Toccoa rivers, and challenging white water rafting is a short drive away. Mountain bike trails and horseback riding are also easy to find and just minutes away.
The mountains of north Georgia are not touristy or trashy. The people are pleasant with character and culture. You’ll become a part of this place, if you want to, and then you’ll want to return to your second 'home' again and again.
