The Cider Hill Home #66 was GREAT , my Wife + I and our two Westie Dogs had a wonderful vacation. The Home was even nicer than the description , very clean and well maintained. The owner Heather could not have been nicer , She was there on time with our keys to the propery and gave us a very good walk though .The back yard garden was just the place to sit and relax after a day at the beach .I would recommend this house to anyone who loves Maine and is looking for a great home to enjoy for there vacation.
PS thank you Heather
For the past 5 years I have rented from HomeAway. The previous 4 years were great, but this year was a disaster!! First, this place is DEFINATELY NOT quiet. Cider Hill Road sounds very serene, however it is also Rt. 91 a major road with heavy truck, motorcycle and car traffic 24/7. After sending in the final payment I waited almost 3 weeks for a confirmation which never came; this after several phone calls. Was also waiting for instructions on getting into the house and directions. Finally, 2 days before I was to leave directions and instructions came via e.mail with a P.S. that the check had been received. I was instructed to call about 1 hour before arrival. After driving almost 6 hours I was told there was a problem with the cleaning people and I should go shopping. I arrived at the house about 1 1/2 hours later and was let in by the owner. She gave me the keys, a tour and left. After unpacking I discovered there was a load of towels in the washer to be dried and put away, a load in the dryer to be put away, old food in the refrigerator which had to be thrown away, the dishwasher was full of dirty dishes, the kitchen trash was full. I had to basically clean the place before I felt comfortable using anything. When I went to use the shower in the master bath discovered it smelled terrible with black mold all over the shower curtain and along the floor and walls; it took 3 days of spraying with vinegar and water to get the worst out. By the end of the first week the microwave stopped working. I notified the owner by phone, but never heard back. After I left and notified her of all the above, requesting a return of the cleaning fee I paid she informed me that someone had taken a panel off the microwave. This WAS NOT done by myself or anyone at the house.
As far as a great place for small children, again it DEFINITELY is not! The front steps end about 4 feet from Rt. 91 and the yard is not great for kids to play. The gorgeous gardens are overgrown with weeds, some of the railings are in dire need of repair. I could go on, however, I think enough said. All in all I would rate this place minus one star. For the price I paid it was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!
This house lives up to the photos on the page! Absolutely wonderful home and well worth the cost. The owners were VERY accommodating and the home was well stocked with everything that could possibly have been needed. Location was great, just outside the main village of York but very close to everything. The beach was ~5 minute drive away and restaurants and stores were within 1-2 minutes away. The property was very clean with plenty of room for up to about 7 people. Home is located on a tidal marsh that provides great views from the wide open living space. Great backyard with a gas grill available to use. We had 4 children on our stay between the ages of 10 months and 6 years and the home was great for them. Plenty of games and other family entertainment available for those days where the weather doesn't go quite as planned. Lots of stuff was available in a storage shed behind the house for use at the beach including boogie boards and a beach buggy. The bottom floor consisted of an open style floorplan for the living/kitchen/dining area with plenty of seating available and a flat screen TV. Private master suite located off of living room had a very comfortable bed and a large whirlpool jacuzzi. Separate exit to the backyard with a small deck. Bathroom had a 2-person shower with shower heads on opposite sides. Definitely a romantic setting for a couple wanting to escape for a special occasion. Upstairs were 2 bedrooms and another full bathroom with a laundry facility. A computer nook was also upstairs with wireless internet connectivity available throughout the home. I highly recommend this property to families (including those with small children), romantic getaway couples, or even a group of friends looking to vacation for a while. The area of York was wonderful with great beaches and beautiful scenery. A short drive to Portsmouth, NH and even closer to the outlets stores in Kittery, ME. Put this place on your short list of accommodations in the York, ME area for sure!
