We bought this 2nd home for our family and children. We're now putting 2 through college!
The cottage is also 20 minute drive to the Appalachian Trail. A hiking paradise!
Middleburg offers great boutique shopping. From fine clothing & jewelry, to fancy toiletries, gourmet meats and take-home meal, visit this lovely town on the way to some of the wineries. There's even a special store for the furry member of your family.
Berryville is a step back in time. Grab an ice cream cone or a latte.

This house was a fantastic find for us - secluded with everything we needed. Our four-legged kids loved playing in the river (so did we!). Great fishing, canoeing, reading, and relaxing. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home - we will be back!
This little gem of a house was such a treat for us to stay in. There was plenty of room for everyone including two kids and two parents, Grandma and Uncle, and our two pups.
We had a great time at the Polo match in town, as well as exploring the area and floating down the river back to the house in the provided kayaks. What a great value for a home with all of these amenities. The owners even left us goodies for s'mores which we roasted on the fire outside in the evening. Loved it! Highly recommended.
(We did struggle to get an internet connection. I am amazed they can get any signal at all out there... if it is imperative for your group, this might not be the best home for you.)
This place is down off a long private road, not knowing what to expect, you then see the house...and the river right behind it and my heart started pounding! You told me your home was on the river, but I have heard that before. You ARE on the river!! I live in the city and your home took me away from all the hassles and craziness of Washington. My stay was great, loved your ideas for short day trips, Polo in the Plains was all too amazing. Who knew all of this was so close? The stars and firepit took me back to my growing up outside of the city. Your home was spotless and loved the spa bathroom and bedroom deck, nicer than my condo! We named the two bald eagles Lucy and Ben! Saw them both times floating down the river. Keep my credit card on file, We are coming back in the Fall!! Thank you so much for sharing a dream getaway, Dan
My wife and I decided to take my parents away for a long weekend. We opted to take a more scenic route across whites ferry to get to this secluded treasure on the Shenandoah. The journey there was a delight though, I would strongly recommend making it during the daylight hours as to take in the natural beauty. The privacy of the gated community with few neighbors made us feel like true pioneers but, the house quickly reminded us that we were in the 21st century. The master bedroom has incredible views through its numerous floor to ceiling windows and awesome wrap around deck. There were some staples left in the fridge and cabinets for us to use such as tea, coffee, popcorn, spices, and condiments. This made meal prep and grocery shopping much easier than past rental experiences. We opted for family time outside and in nearby middleburgh opposed to watching the cable tv or playing on the Internet through the house's wifi. The bed and bedding was quite comfortable which made sleeping a breeze and the rainfall shower awakened the body in relaxation mode. We will definitely return to the river house when we are able to spend more time. 2 nights was a quick recharge and very relaxing so I am thinking 1 week would be close to utopia.
This house has a charming quality about it. It has a gorgeous view of the Shenandoah River and its easy access to the river is a bonus. The coziness of the house is very appealing. I have stayed at this property several times and hope to return in the future.
What a wonderful place. We wanted to get away from it all. We looked at hotels and B & B's but luckily found this gem in the the mountains on the Shenandoah. A great cottage with lots of hidden treasures. We are nature lovers, so the dirt road and wooded community were a welcomed surprise this close to DC. We saw a wild turkey one evening. We felt like the only 2 people in the world...exactly what we needed. The owners were great, accommodating us with every request, a we had a few. We would like to keep this a little secret for ourselves but loved it so much I had to share. Can't wait to go back. Love, new River House friends.
