Re-Hab: The house is under a total re-hab. We have built a brand new kitchen and turned the old kitchen into an additional bed room, now there are 4, and the living room and sun room sleeper sofas, we raised the ceiling in the living room added a wood burning stove with a stone sourround. And a 54' hi-def flat screen TV. We added a computer / Work station with Internet access. Hard Wood floors have been installed throughout. All flower bed retaing walls have been rebuilt and a complete new landscape will be installed as soon as the weather breaks.
This place has EVERYTHING! We went for a weekend getaway with another family and it was truly a relaxing, fun time! This house has all of the amenities of home...they have truly thought of everything when it comes to a rental! The house is super clean, laid out great and so comfortable. The outside amenities are the best...HUGE fire pit and hot tub along with the outdoor speakers made for great times! You are truly secluded at this mountain oasis. We were depressed to leave and all of us have talked all week about when we can go back! We WILL be going back...Maybe next time when its a little warmer to take advantage of all that Poe has to offer!
I have organized a boys weekend for the past twelve years and Poe Haven is by far the best place we have rented. I have rented places in Slate Run, Blackwell, and Deep Creek Lake, but we couldn't resist coming back to Poe Haven for a second year. The ability to hike rail trail, fish Penn Creek, or just hang out by the fire pit and listen to tunes makes the place one of a kind.
Our group likes to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed and in good condition. You are guaranteed working appliances and nice clean cookware and glassware.
The back deck with the fire pit and hot tub in wonderful especially in the fall. There is nothing better than hitting the hot tub and then relaxing next to the fir pit all whilst listening to tunes.
Did I mention the fly fishing on Penn Creek is spectacular. My one friend had a legendary day two days ago and caught 10 native browns.
Bill, thanks again and we will be back next year.
Every summer we have a guys weekend and book a house listed on vrbo. This is by far the best place we have ever stayed. You can really tell how much the owner loves this place.
Really secluded on a long dirt road deep in the woods away from everything. The pictures on here don't come close to describing how cool the outdoor space is. The firepit is gigantic and the patio furniture is awesome. Unlike most houses on here, the hot tub is huge and in perfect working order.
There is a TV in practically every room with satellite TV and a sound system that has speakers both inside and outside by the firepit. The kitchen is stocked and the outdoor kitchen is great. 2 full bathrooms with full tiled showers and an outdoor shower all in perfect working order.
Really a perfect weekend. Played poker, watched football, hungout by the firepit, bbq'd, went hiking... we really didn't want to leave.
So first of all, let me start by saying that I looked at hundreds of properties on Homeaway for a getaway with a group of friends. This trip was going to be just the guys, and we were looking for a place that was remote and secluded, but still a decent property and house. We scratched off property after property because there was something about it that didn't quite meet what we were looking for.
So if you're looking for: a quiet and relaxing property + a nicely kept, updated, clean house + river and lake access for fishing or tubing, this is your place!
The pictures do NOT do the outdoor space justice. The fire pit is HUGE. The speakers play through the whole area. The landscape itself is great and the surrounding area is beautiful. We had room to set up various outdoor games here and there. The outdoor kitchen is awesome and I imagine even more useful for a group bigger than ours (9 people). We did use it all weekend, but you can probably feed twice our group with both kitchens going.
When he says the house is fully stocked, it really is. We could have gotten away without bringing half of what we brought. We left all the extras behind as it seems the people before us did to pay it forward (paper towels, coffee, that sort of stuff). The rooms themselves are all well furnished and have a great feel to them. Bathrooms are cool -- big stone showers.
Last thing I can think to review is how helpful Bill was from start to finish. He got back back to me right away about getting the paperwork going, he kept in touch as I emailed him questions, then when we were there he called to see that we got in okay and told us to call with any questions. We did the next day, and he told us all about how to access the creek and lake. I've rented before around the east coast without ever getting even an email from the owner. He said to me that this house is more than just a rental property to him, it's a place he loves being. You can tell.
So like I said before this was for a guys weekend. Honestly we weren't looking for something this nice, it was the remote area and lack of any close civilization that drew us here. It was a 4 hour ride (give or take) from south Jersey, and still worth it for a 3 day weekend. I think you know what I mean when I make this difference, but our plan is definitely to go back in the future and to bring the ladies and kids with us. It's the kind of place that's perfect for either type of trip.
All I can say is WOW!! THis is no Cabin in the woods it is true paradice! Clean, fresh and tidy in every room!! Each room has a Flat screen TV and the beds are great.
you know you are relaxed when you dont want to leave. Already booked next year!
You can walk to the stream and start fishing. Jacuzzie is really nice and the fire pit is huge. The Kids loved every min of it!! Will be back!!!
We stayed at Poe Haven for a weekend with 4 adults and 4 kids (aged 5-11). It was the PERFECT place for us. The setting is beautiful and provided plenty of opportunities for short hikes with the kids. In the evening, the adults enjoyed the enormous fire pit and a couple of bottles of wine while the kids had the hot tub to themselves. The house itself is immaculate and feels very new. The satellite TV was a big plus!
We found the owner very responsive to inquiries and easy to deal with. We're looking forward to going back in 2014!
