Mary Cook purchased this house in 2002
We fell in love with this property as soon as we drove in the driveway in July, 2002 and made an offer that same day. The view of the lake directly from the property and the access to national forest to the east and south made it feel liked we owned the valley. Fabulous fishing in the private lakes, hiking in our valley and the national forest that is adjacent to our property, mountain biking, cross crountry skiing and snowshoeing are just a few of the reasons that Creekside Corral is so special.
Bring your dog or your horses -- an amenity that is special to our home. The hot tub on the deck provides wonderful views of the lake and the valley on the other side provides great views and beautiful hikes and mountain biking at its best. Summer is perfect for all your personal outside enjoyment. Come for the Holidays as our home is very festively decorated.
Beaver Meadows Resort is five minutes away as is Base Camp at Crystal Lakes, both provide restaurants and other amenities for the vacationer. The Town of Red Feather has grocery stores, a hardware store, library and restaurants as well as some fun shops. WiFi is available at most restaurants. The treasures of the mountains are endless.
Tried to fish but too much snow blowing and wind. Enjoyed a much needed relaxing weekend. Can't think of anything this weekend or house didn't provide that I was wanting or needing. Thank you.
The Creekside Cabin was a phenomenal location for our romantic New Year's getaway. We arrived after dark, so it was a bit of an adventure winding our way to the secluded site in the snow. The directions were excellent, however, and the GPS in our car worked well. Definitely suggest a 4WD this time of year. We awoke the first morning to two moose right outside the downstairs bedroom window. They hung around most of the day and we continued to see them from a distance throughout our time there. Also saw rabbits and what we think was a coyote. We spent most of our time by the fire, but went hiking every day. Plenty of snow, so we should have had snowshoes with us! Other have commented on the well-stocked kitchen. In the bathroom, there are also several hair dryers so no need to take one. Hot tub.... amazing! We were really pleased with the experience and highly recommend it!
We went up for a week over Thanksgiving, and another couple and their dog met us up there for the second half. The place was very quiet and secluded - and Dorian (the dog) loved it, felt instantly at home. There are a few other houses visible from the property, but they are quite far away so it still feels very private. It would have been excellent for snowshoeing if there had been more snow! As it was, the hiking was wonderful.
We got to see a moose and her calf on one early morning walk (well…those of us who were up got to see it! The lay-abeds enjoyed their cozy sleeping in time). The mud room off the kitchen was very convenient for keeping our extra supplies nearby, but out of the way. The fireplace is wonderful, and plenty of wood was stocked and available for us to use. The hot tub was also great - though it was pretty windy and cold while we were up there so we didn't get to use it as much as we would have liked.
There is wireless internet for those of us who can't avoid checking in at work now and then. It's a bit slow (which I would expect for the area), but it gets the job done.
In the winter, at least, I'd highly recommend arriving in the daylight. It was snowing and overcast when we drove in, with snow-packed roads, which made it a little difficult to see where things were. When our friends arrived a few days later it was bright and sunny, and they had no problems at all.
We travel with friends quite a bit, and one thing we really liked about the place is that the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms were identical (no trying to figure out who gets the opulent master suite, while one couple gets stuck with the dingy second bedroom).
We had a wonderful time. I'd love to return in the fall sometime, so we could spend some time out on the deck without being too cold.
We have rented many VRBO properties through the years and this one had the most usable kitchen of any we have stayed at. Usually we find a few cheap plastic spatulas and spoons and a couple of small teflon pans from the 90's. This place was filled with almost anything you could think of; whisks, sharp knives, pans of all shapes and sizes, a quality coffee maker, food processor, hand mixer and more. The home was super clean when we arrived. The living room was large and comfy and, while there were only two of us, we could imagine being there with a large group, building a nice fire in the fireplace and having a ton of fun. The main floor master was nice, especially if you have someone in your group who can't manage stairs. The deck has a large dining table and other seating for hanging out. There were a few other homes in the distance, but far enough away that you still felt private. The hot tub was lovely at night.
One caveat, there is some work being done on the dam not far from the property. If you have very delicate senses that may feel assaulted by the beep beep beep and engine noise from the construction vehicles, you may want to wait until the work is completed. For us, though, the hypnotizing views made it almost unnoticeable and you could not hear the noise in the house with the doors closed. The work ceased in the late afternoon and on Sunday.
Thanks for a wonderful stay.
This property was perfect for our family: kids, adults, dogs all loved the seclusion and roomy house. A perfect holiday home and the moose and her calf did visit.
What a property! We could not have asked for a more beautiful property in a more beautiful location. Even our dog, Rosie, loved it! I really hesitate writing this because I want to keep this "secret" to ourselves. Once everyone else finds out, we will never be able to rent it again - something we plan on doing many more times!
What a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday stay we had. The home was clean, warm and welcoming! The hot tub was an added bonus and was used quite a bit! We went on a 4 hour hiking adventure taking in the scenic mountains, streams and meadows. Our german shepherd was in heaven as well. Both Mary & Barb were a pleasure to work with. Let's just say that we were already talking about coming back very soon and we had not even left yet! It's a wonderful property and will be even more gorgeous when the lake project has been completed.
Direct access to National Forest from the property with hundreds of miles of trails to take your horses on, hike, mountain bike and just enjoy! Creekside resides adjacent to recently expanded Lower Lone Pine Lake..a lovely view from the wraparound deck.
