Quiet Lake Front Cottage in Northeast Kingdom (VT)

This was our third time visiting this very special spot on Miles Pond and we can't say enough about the cottage, its location and the kindness of the owners in making sure everything is right for their renters. The cottage is located at end of the lake we call the "quiet end." We enjoy watching nature (loons, ducks, and song birds) and going out in the paddle boat (provided) or kayaking around the lake. We LOVE the large screened porch and eat most of our meals there, taking in the gorgeous view in front of us. For those who want a true vacation where you experience true relaxation, you can't beat Miles Pond and this cottage. And for those with the urge to wander, the "Northeast Kingdom" is fun to explore. In addition, the cottage is not far from New Hampshire and the White Mountains. Finally, the owners of this cottage care very much for it and want to be sure that their renters enjoy their stay. Reading the guest book at the cottage must be gratifying for them because it is clear how much everyone loves vacationing there.

Imagine waking to hear the haunting call of the loon or being aroused by your son to see the huge bass he had just pulled from the lake (pond). This describes our experience at this idyllic cottage retreat. The cabin was immaculate with everything one needs. This is not surprising as Beatrice the owner is of Swiss heritage I discovered. She called to see we were settled in and was great to deal with.
We had perfect weather all week so were spoilt and our grand-daughters enjoyed the little swimming beach at the entrance to the community - not the cleanest beach but okay for kids.
The paddle-boat was fun and the fishing great!
Highly recommended for a great family week.

I spent a week at the cottage with my twin boys that are 6 years old. We enjoyed every single minute there….it was like heaven! The cottage was far prettier and homier than the photos on this site show. I was expecting a nice place but I really wasn’t expecting it to feel like “home” the moment we walked in the door. My children really enjoyed the “bunk” room and I loved my oh-so-comfy queen bed. (Actually, I tried out all the beds and they were all comfy…). The kitchen had everything you could possibly need for cooking everything from homemade pizza to brownies (both of which we made…while there). There were even special BBQ utensils for using the grill!

The owner, Beatrice, was very easy to communicate with and even made sure there were a few DVDs for my young children there. (which we watched and enjoyed!..). The next door neighbors were also super-helpful (while not being intrusive at all).

If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and enjoy some quiet time on the lake paddle-boating and fishing (which is what we did every single day!)….this is a great place. We caught loads of fish (hint: use worms)…..enjoyed watching a curious loon …..and visited with a family of ducks every day. We even journeyed to some of the area towns to see a bit of small town Vermont at its best. There is plenty to see in the area – if you are inclined to ever leave the cottage!

I hope I can bring my boys back there again. It was exactly what we needed - as a family - to recharge and reconnect.

p.s. If you are a dog person, venture out and check out the “Dog Chapel” - it really is an amazing tribute and not to be missed!
